  • In the flue gas desulfurization process of the coal-fired power plant, the grinding efficiencies of the limestone as the sorbent for desulfurization were compared after BWI and HGI measurements. As a result, the grinding index of the domestic desulfurization limestone were linear inversely proportional relationship with decreasing BWI was observed with increasing HGI. There was a difference in grinding efficiency depending on the chemical composition and crystal structure. Therefore, it is considered that when grinding ability of limestone is measured, the grinding property of the sample can be confirmed even by using HGI which can be measured more easily than BWI which is difficult to measure and takes a long time. The desulfurization efficiency can be improved by selective utilization of limestone depending on the crushing characteristics.

  • 3.2YSZ melted by the 'skull melting' method has good physical properties and does not undergo low-temperature degradation. Due to its excellent physical and mechanical properties, skull-melted 3.2YSZ has been developed as a dental implant material. In this study, a porous, resin-bonded diamond wheel was created and its grinding characteristics were compared with those of traditional nonporous wheels using skull-melted 3.2YSZ. The experimental results indicate that the porous, resin-bonded diamond wheel requires less grinding force and power. In addition, the porous, resin-bonded diamond wheel requires a greater degree of roughness.

  • In this study, the decision of dressing time for diamond wheel was analyzed by observing with acoustic emission signals and surface roughness, and also obtained the machining characteristics by weibull distribution plot for the values of bending strength. From the experimental study, it was possible to predict the time of re-dressing for the diamond grinding wheel with the analysis of acoustic emission signals and surface roughness values, and following conclusions were obtained. The root-mem-square values of acoustic emission signals were obtained low as the increased of table speed for different abrasive grain size. This is caused by the lack of grinding power which is not able to get rid of all real grinding mass of depth as the table speed is increased. The values of bending strength for ground $Si_3 N_4$ specimens were decreased for gain size of #400 than that of #60, but it was found that the surface roughness values for gain size of #60 were better than that of #400. As compared the shape parameter of weibull distribution plot for the values of bending strength, it was found that the reliability of bending strength for grain size of #60 increased than that of #400.

  • The present paper focuses on the fabrication of materials with higher thermal conductivity. Nanofluid is a novel transfer prepared by dispersing nanometer-sized solid particles in traditional heat transfer fluid to increase thermal conductivity and heat transfer performance. The purpose of this study is making the nano-size particle. The experiment of MWCNT and $Al_2O_3$ was carried out using a planetary ball mill at several rotation speeds: 200 ~ 400 rpm. The results were examined using scanning electron microscope(SEM). In the case of the MWCNT, it could be more grinding into the small particle in the dry condition and it confirm in the case of the $Al_2O_3$ to be more grinding into the small particle contrary to the MWCNT in the wet condition. In the mixture grinding result of MWCNT and $Al_2O_3$, the dry condition showed the good result in low rotation speed than the wet condition.

  • A standing grinder with a vacuum dust collection, which works grinding a surface and collecting dust occurred simultaneously, is needed to clean the surface before painting, or to remove a weld bead burr in the industrial field. In recent it trends to be compact and potable with high grinding and dust collection power, and low noise. As increasing these grinding and dust collection power, the noise and weight of standing grinder occurs an important problem. To solve these problem, an efficient cyclone separator was designed and developed by Ansys-CFX analysis and experiments. A weight of the developed grinder part was 5.9kg, which can be easily handled on standing by workers. and a noise level of the developed prototype was measured 69.9 dB(A).

  • Sound has been rated negatively in many industrial areas as the noise to be removed. In the agricultural process such as rice milling based on grinding the surface of the rice, however, it may be anticipated that the sound can contain the some information on the process. In this research, on the assumption that variation of the shape of the rice kernel during milling may bring the change in frequency characteristic of sound signal, we tried to investigate the relationship between the milling degree in the grinding test mill and the resonance and anti-resonance frequencies (the frequencies at which the sound power has the extreme values). • Since most farmers breeding livestocks in Korea is depended on imported feeds, the rate of self-supplying feeds is very important for a stable development of farmers. Therefore, it is considered necessary to increase the rate of self-supplying feeds. In this study, performance tests were carried out with barley and forage to find the design's parameters of hammer for a small size hammer mill which can be driven by 3.7-7.5 kW power tiller being used by most farmers. The revolution speed of hammer mill was 3000 rpm, widths of hammer were 20mm, 30mm, 40mm, and the levels of thickness of hammer were 2mm, 4mm and 6mm. Experimental materials used were barley and forage and screen openings for barley was 4.76mm, and 3.18mm for forage. The study results can be summarized as follows; 1. Results of grinding tests showed that particle sizes were 478-774 microns for barley and 350-434 microns for forage. They were decreased according to the increasing thickness and width of hammer. 2. Fineness modulus of grinded materials were 3.07-3.62 for barley and 2.69-2.93 for forage. They were inversely proportional to thickness and width of hammer. 3. The required power for grinding was 3.8-5.0 kW for barley and 0.9-1.4 kW for forage. The thickness of hammer was more important for less power requirement than width of hammer. 4. Grinding performance of a small size hammer mill was 99-170kg/kWh for barley and 11-21 kg/kWh for forage. The thickness of hammer was an important factor for grinding performance, and inversely proportional to grinding performance. For about 3.2 of fineness modulus, 4 mm thickness was the best, and an optimum width of hammer was 30mm for a small size hammer mill.

  • In this study, to improve the early-age compressive strength of mortar, the compressive strength tests of mortar mixed smart BFS powder added powder of rapid setting additives milled by processing, using functional grinding aid, the power-typed rapid setting cement clinker developed by sintering industrial waste and by-products with much CaO-$SiO_2-Al_2O_3$ to cement were performed. From the tests, the followings are found that (1) for BFS early-age strength improvement test (Series I): early-age strength improvement of BFS mixed rapid setting additive milled after adding functional grinding aid, when the clinker is milled, is superior and (2) for OPC early-age strength improvement test (Series II): case of additive mixed rapid setting powder typed activator milled after adding functional grinding aid to Clinker-C showed the higher compressive strength.

  • A friction tester to measure friction force generated at the interface between the piston ring and the cylinder liner was developed. Modified piston ring is bar-shaped and 100mm long. Surface of the modified piston ring is machined by the profile grinding machine to be formed as a shape of an arc of a circle. Measured data are treated as mean effective friction force and power loss. From this test it can be confirmed that friction force is deeply affected by surface shape of the piston ring and viscosity of supplied oil. Friction force is deeply affected by surface shape of the piston ring and viscosity of supplied oil. Friction force is decreased and power loss is increased with increasing velocity. And it is known that region of mixed lubrication is broader than estimated with theoretical analysis. it is expected that this tester can be used as the optimization tool of the surface shape of the piston ring at the first stage of development of the piston rings.
