평균입자 연삭모델에 의한 최대미변형칩두께의 예측 (Estimation of the Maximum Undeformed Chip Thickness Using the Average Grain Model)

  • In order to estimate the maximum undeformed chip thickness in grinding operation, it is necessary to obtain the successive cutting point spacing. In the past it was obtained by experiments. In this paper, the average successive cutting point spacing has been obtained using the given grinding input conditions and it is possible to estimate the maximum undeformed chip thickness without using any experimentally obtained data. The validity of the proposed analysis has been verified based on two sets of grinding scratch tests using WA and CBN grinding wheels.

  • This paper presents the experimental results to analyze the atomization characteristics and environmental impact of cutting fluid in grinding process. Grinding is a major machining process to improve surface quality with different machining mechanism which is compared with turning or milling process. The environmental impact due to aerosol generation via grinding process is a major concern associated with environmental consciousness. Experimental results show that the generated fine aerosol which particle size less than 10 micron appears near working zone under given operational conditions. The aerosol concentration is much higher enough to affect human health risk with its generated aerosol quantities. This study can be provided a basic knowledge fur further research of environmental consciousness machining development.

Exposure Assessment to Suggest the Cause of Sinusitis Developed in Grinding Operations Utilizing Soluble Metalworking Fluids

  • A worker who grinded the inner parts of camshafts for automobile engines using water-soluble metalworking fluid (MWF) for 14 years was diagnosed with sinusitis. We postulated that the outbreak of sinusitis could be associated with exposure to microbes contaminated in water-soluble MWF during the grinding operation. To suggest responsible agents for this outbreak, quantitative exposure assessment for chemical and biological agents and prevalence of work-related respiratory symptoms by questionnaire were studied. The exposure ranges of MWF mist (0.59 $mg/m^3$to 2.12 $mg/m^3$) measured during grinding exceeded 0.5 $mg/m^3$ of the recommended exposure limit (REL). Grinder's exposures to bacteria, fungi and endotoxins were also generally higher than not only the proposed standards, but also those reported by several studies to identify the cause of respiratory effects. Statistical test indicated that the prevalence rate of reported symptoms related to nasal cavities showed no significant differences among the operations. Evaluation on grinding operation characteristics and quantitative exposure assessment indicated that repeated exposure to MWF mist including microbes contaminated from the use of water-soluble MWF may cause respiratory diseases like sinusitis or at least increase susceptibility to the development of sinusitis

경부고속선의 레일 연마에 따른 레일 피로수명 평가 (Evaluation of Rail Fatigue Life by Grinding of Kyeong-Bu High-Speed Line)

  • 고속철도 운행에 따라 레일표면결함에 대한 관리의 중요성이 점점 더 증대되고 있다. 차량의 고속주행시 레일표면결함은 레일의 피로수명 단축 및 궤도의 열화 촉진, 승차감 저하를 유발하기 때문이다. 현재 경부고속철도에서는 레일의 효율적 유지보수를 위하여 레일연마를 수행하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 레일연마에 따른 레일의 피로수명을 예측하였다. 이를 위해서 연마 후 KTX 운행시 레일 저부의 휨응력을 계측하였으며, Rain-flow counting 기법을 적용하여 빈도해석을 실시하여 RCM에 의해 등가응력범위를 산정하였다. 선형누적피로피해를 이용한 피로수명 평가방법은 수정 Miner 법칙에 기초하였다. 해석결과 연마에 따른 레일의 피로수명이 15% 증가되는 것으로 나타났다.

RCB법에 의한 원통형 플런지 연삭공정의 싸이클 시간 감소에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Cycle Time Reduction of Cylindrical Plunge Grinding Process with Recursive Constraint Bounding Method)

  • This study presents the recursive constraint bounding(RCB) method to reduce the cycle time in internal cylindrical plunge grinding process. This method can cope with process noise as well as modeling bias. The main features of RCB method are its utilization of measurements at the end of each cycle and its use of monotonicity analysis for determining the extremes of bias and noise. This method is investigated in simulation and evaluated by experiment in internal cylindrical plunge grinding operation. The results from simulation and experiment show that it is effective in reducing cycle time in spite of modeling uncertainty in the forms of process noise and modeling bias.

인산제조공정의 모사연구 (An Intelligent Simulation of a Phosphoric Acid Plant)

  • For the identification of the optimal operating conditions of phosphoric acid plant, an intelligent simulation was performed based on the dissolution reaction of phosphate rock. A phosphoric acid plant consists of three main processes : ball-mill grinding process, rock reaction process and slurry filteration process. The grinding and filteration processes are relatively simple processes and most of the simulation works are on the reaction process. The practical operation data of phosphoric acid plant at Namhae Chemical Corp. were utilized in the simulation. The operation of the phosphoric acid plant is highly dependent on the heuristics of operators and so the expert system technology was employed. The operation of phosphoric acid plant varies with the origin of phosphate rock. Results of the simulation showed the optimal values of major process variables and optimal operating conditions. The knowledgebase for the expert system was constructed based on the interview with the experienced plant operators.

석재가공 공정에서 발생되는 분진과 석영의 입자크기별 농도 특성 (Particle Size-Related Dust and Quartz Concentration of Stone Grinding Operations)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate quartz concentrations in airborne respirable dust and particle size-related quartz concentrations. Methods: Respirable dust samples were collected using a 10 mm Dorr-Oliver nylon cyclone equipped with a 37 mm, $5{\mu}m$ pore size PVC filter. Dust samples were collected with a Marple's personal cascade impactor from stone grinding operations in five stone-related business located in the Gyeongsangbuk-do area. Results: The geometric mean of quartz concentration in the respirable dust was $0.170mg/m^3$, and the rate of exceeding the Korean Occupational Exposure Limit(KOEL) was 93.3%. The quartz concentration by particle size shows that it was the highest($0.115mg/m^3$) in stage 5($3.50-6.00{\mu}m$), which corresponds with the size of respirable particle. The smaller the particle sizes were, the higher quartz the content became. The mass fractions of inhalable, thoracic, and respirable dust were 72.1%, 36.0%, and 14.4%. Conclusions: The rate of the quartz concentration in respirable dust from stone grinding operations exceeding the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists Threshold Limit Values was 100%, which means proper work environmental management is required through regular working environmental measurements. Given that the stone grinding operations had a higher small size dust concentrations, there is a need to reduce respirable dust, such as through wet operation and local exhaust ventilation.

  • An effective die-polishing robot system is developed. ATC (Automatic Tool Change), tool posture angle control, and robot program for polishing application are developed and integrated into a robotic system that consists of a robot, pneumatic grinding tool, and grinding abrasives (papers and special films). ATC is specifically designed to exchange whole grinding tool set for complete unmanned operation. A tool posture angle control system is developed for the tools to maintain a specified skew angle rather than right angle on the surface for best finishing results. A PC and the robot controller control ATC and tool posture angle. Also, there have been more considerations on enhancing the performance of the system. Elastic material is inserted between the grinding pad and the holder for better grinding contact. Robot path data are generated automatically from the NC data of previous machining process.
