#140 mesh and #600 mesh wheels were adopted to grind (111) and (100) oriented single crystalline silicon wafer and the grinding induced change of the surface integrity was investigated. For this purpose, microroughness, residual stress and phase transformation were analyzed for the ground surface. Microroughness was analyzed using AFM (Atomic Force Microscope) and crystal structure was analyzed using micro-Raman spectroscopy. The residual stress and phase transformation were also analyzed after thermal annealing in the air. As a result, microroughness of (111) wafer was larger than that of (100) wafer after grinding. It was observed using Raman spectrum that the silicon was transformed from diamond cubic Si-I to Si-III(body centered tetragonal) or Si-XII(rhombohedral). Residual stress relaxation was also shown in cavities which were produced after grinding. The thermal annealing was effective for the recovery of the silicon phase to the original phase and the residual stress relaxation.

We report a centerless grinding machine which can perform multi-function with 600 mm wide grinding wheels. By increasing manufacturing area, long workpiece such as camshaft and steering shaft, is allowed to grind more quickly, compared with cylindrical grinding system. In this paper, the design of centerless grinding machine puts emphasis on symmetry to exploit the thermal stability. Results of finite element analysis shows that the difference of the structural deflection in the front and rear guideways is less than $1.5{\mu}m$ due to symmetric design. The difference is less than $3.0{\mu}m$, even though the thermal deformation is considered. According to the performance evaluation, the radial error motion of the G/W spindle, which is measured by applying Donaldson Ball Reversal, is about 1.1${\mu}m$. The yaw error of the G/W slide is improved from 2.1 arcsec to 0.5 arcsec by readjusting the slide preload and ball screw.
This study was conducted to investigate the physicochemical properties of the ethanol extracts and soluble dietary fiber from Cassia tora L. seed. The proximate composition of Cassia tora, soluble solid contents, color intensity and contents of emodin and rhein of Cassia tora extract, molecular mass distribution, sugar contents and viscosity of soluble fiber from Cassia tora were analyzed. Cassia tora contains 12.6% of moisture, 5.2% of ash, 13.4% of crude protein, 7.2% of crude fat, 8.8% of insoluble fiber and 48.3% of soluble fiber. The effects of extract condition on soluble solid contents, color intensity and contents of emodin and rhein of Cassia tora extract were investigated. The soluble solid contents were higher in 70% or 50% ethanol extracts than those in 100% ethanol extracts and showed highest value in grind sample extracts. In Hunter's color value, 100% ethanol extracts and whole Cassia tora sample extracts were higher in L and b value, but on the contrary, were lower in a value, than those of the other. The highest emodin and rhein contents were observed in 70% and 50% ethanol extracts, respectively, and showed higher value in room temperature extracts than in heating extracts. The molecular mass of soluble fiber from Cassia tora seed was estimated by gel filtration chromatography. Most soluble fiber(80%) exhibited a molecular mass range of between 50~2000 kDa. The major sugars of soluble fiber from Cassia tora seed were identified as xylose, mannose and galactose. The apparent viscosity of 0.5% soluble fiber from Cassia tora seed was 33 mPas showing a higher value than pectin or xanthan gum.

Adherend samples were made from unsaturated polyester and woven and mat glass fibers by the hand layup and vacuum methods. The mechanical properties of the adhesive, composite adherends, and terminal-joint and secondary-joint specimens were determined experimentally. Combinations of the experiment results and the bonding theory were used in this study. The maximum and average shear stresses were calculated based on the maximum tensile force and geometry parameters of the joint specimens. The results of the maximum and average shear stresses were compared and evaluated for six joints. The results showed that the grinding and grind/acetone joint had the highest strength among three types of terminal-joints. Similarly, the mat-mat and mat-woven joints had the highest strength among three types of secondary-joints with the same value. Conversely, no treatment and woven-woven bonding had very low strength. In each case, failure occurred always at two ends and then moved toward the middle area of the overlap length.
Alkyd modified polyester was synthesized by the polycondensation of 1,4-butanediol, trimethylolpropane, adipic acid, and the intermediate obtained by the esterification of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid(THA) and trimethylolpropane, where the contents of THA as a component of alkyd polyol in the intermediate were changed according to 10, 20, and 30wt%, respectively. Two-component polyurethane coatings were prepared by blending the synthesized alkyd modified polyester with Desmodur L-75 as a component of polyisocyanate. Various tests for coating properties with the prepared coatings show that high fineness of grind of $8^-$point, short drying time of 2~3 hours, and long pot-life of 18~23 hours were observed with the content of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid.
A high thermal conductivity material, namely graphene is treated by planetary ball milling machine to transport the heat by increasing the temperature. Experiments were performed to assess the heat transfer enhancement benefits of coating the bottom wall of copper substrate with graphene. It is well known that the graphene is unable to disperse into base fluid without any treatment, which is due to the several reasons such as attachment of hydrophobic surface, agglomeration and impurity. To further improve the dispersibility and thermal characteristics, planetary ball milling approach is used to grind the raw samples at optimized condition. The results are examined by transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, Raman spectrometer, UV-spectrometer, thermal conductivity and thermal imager. Thermal conductivity measurements of structures are taken to support the explanation of heat transfer properties of different samples. As a result, it is found that the planetary ball milling approach is effective for improvement of both the dispersion and heat carriers of carbon based material. Indeed, the heat transfer of the ground graphene coated substrate was higher than that of the copper substrate with raw graphene.
Optimal grinding condition was examined by changing only the size of screen opening with fixing other factors to produce coal fines of particle sizes required for circulating fluidized bed gasifier. At least 85 wt% of the coal particles should fall into the size range of 0.045~1.0 mm for efficient gasification. In this study, hammer mill was used to grind Chinese low rank lignite coal following grinding condition designed by Taguchi method. The analysis of signal to noise ratio showed that optimum grinding condition for the gasifier was 3 mm in primary screen size and 1.3 mm in secondary screen size on the 95% level of significance.
Pollutants from urban pavement consists various kinds of substances which are originated from dry deposition, a grind out tire, corrosive action of rain to pavement and facilities and raw materials of the road etc.. These are major pollutants of urban NPS (Non-point source) during rainfall period. However there is not enough information to control such pollutants for appropriate management of natural water quality. In this study of transportation areas, three monitoring stations were set up at trunk road, urban highway and national road in Gyeongnam province. Runoff flow rate was measured at every 15minutes by automatic flow meters installed at the end of storm sewer pipe within the road catchment area for water quality analysis. Data was collected every 15 minutes for initial two hours of rainfall. Additional samples were collected 1-4 hours interval till the end of rainfall. The monitoring parameters were $COD_{Mn}$, SS, T-N & T-P and heavy metals. The average EMCs of TSS and $COD_{Mn}$ were 62.0 mg/L and 24.2 mg/L on the city trunk road, which were higher than those of urban highway and national road, indicating higher pollutant loads due to activities in the city downtown area beside the vehicle. On the other hand, the average EMC of T-N and T-P were in the range of 2.67-3.23 mg/L and 0.19-3.21 mg/L for all the sampling sites. Heavy metals from the roads were mainly Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn, showing variable EMCs by the type of road. From the TSS wash-off analysis in terms of FF(first flush) index, first flush phenomenon was clearly observed in the trunk road(FF : 0.89-1.43). However, such mass delivery behavior was not apparently shown in urban highway(FF : 0.90-1.11) and national road(FF : 0.81-1.41).

In this study, a method of shear crushing and a two-stage disk mill were introduced to grind the waste tire powder. Rubber chips with various size were obtained during the crushing or grinding step. The two-stage disk mill was composed of two drum-type blades rotating at various speed and in opposite directions. Therefore, more roughly surfaced particles of micronized waste tire powder were obtained using shear crushing rather than using conventional cutting crushing. In this study, the shape of shear-crushed waste tire particles was compared with conventional cutting crushing particles by scanning electron microscope. In addition, the particle size analyzer was employed to determine the appropriate particle size of waste ground tire powders obtained in this study.

Mica-glass ceramics has features such as micro-sized crystals, high strength, chemical resistance, semitransparent optical properties, etc. Due to its superior material properties, mica glass ceramics have increasing applications in dental and medical components, insulation boards, chemical devices, etc. In many applications, especially for dental and medical components, ultra-precise polishing is required. However, it is known to be a very difficult-to-grind material because of its high hardness and brittle properties. Thus, in this study, a newly developed ultra-precise polishing method is applied to obtain nano-level surface roughness of the mica glass ceramics using magnetorheological (MR) fluids and nano abrasives. Nano-sized ceria particles were used for the polishing of the mica glass ceramics. A series of experiments were performed under various polishing conditions, and the results were analyzed. A very fine surface roughness of Ra=6.127 nm could be obtained.
