  • The ocean wave is hydrodynamically investigated to get more reliable solution. To improve the computational accuracy more fine grids are used with relatively less computer storage on the free surface. One element of the free surface is discretized into more fine grids because the free-surface waves are much affected by the grid size in the finite difference scheme. Here the multi-grid method is applied to confirm the efficiency for the S103 ship model by solving the Navier-Stokes equation for the turbulent flows. According to the computational result approximately 30% can be improved in the free surface generation, Finally the limiting streamlines show numerical result is similar to the experiment by twin tuft.

  • This paper proposes a grid-connected to rotor type doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) in which the rotor winding is connected to the grid instead of the stator winding. The stator size and weight of the proposed grid-connected to rotor type DFIG can be reduced because the proposed type can use rotor core more efficiently compared to the stator type DFIG. In order to verify the size and weight reduction of the proposed type, the loading distribution method (LDM) is utilized. As a design result, the stator outer diameter and weight of the proposed type were decreased. The equivalent circuit analysis and finite element method also performed to verify the design results and to analyze characteristics of the novel DFIG.

  • This paper describes the model of the distribution grid for the broadband power line communication based on lumped-element circuits. In addition, this paper discusses various configurations of the MV distribution network in PLC. The distribution grid is not designed for communication so that it involves unfriendly conditions for PLC. The characterization of the MV distribution grid for PLC should be determined such as noise, attenuation, and mismatched impedance. For theses reasons, the PLC networks is described in using the scattering parameters. Finally, the n-port network is explained.

  • This study has been focused on the analysis of high speed shear forming process for lead-acid battery grids. The grid plays an important role of electrical charge. It is necessary to ensure the best battery's performance that the grid should have a best quality. The clearance between punch and die, the velocity of punch and the critical damage value are very important parameters for making a good grid form. The finite element analysis of the shear forming process is carried out by measuring and optimizing these three important parameters. The result of this study concludes that these parameters has a great influence on grid quality.

  • The polarizer is an important optical element used in a variety of applications. Nano-wire grid polarizers in the form of sub-wavelength metallic gratings are an attractive alternative to conventional polarizers, because they provide high extinction ratio. This study has been carried out to fabrication of the 17inch area size nano-wire grid polarizer(NWGP) The master for NWGPs with a pitch of 200nm and the area size $730mm{\times}450mm$ were fabricated using laser interference lithography and aluminum sputtering and wet etching. And The NWGP fabrication process was using by the Roll to-Roll UV imprinting and was applied to flexible PET film. The results were a transmission of light (Tp) 46.7%, reflectance (Rs) 40.1% and Extinction ratio of above 16 for the visible light range.

  • In 2-dimensional SCBF (Spherically Convergent Beam Fusion) device, the effect on neutron production rate of the grid cathode geometry was simulated. The motion of Particles was tracked using Monte Carlo Method including the atomic and molecular collision processes and potential distribution was calculated by Finite Element Method, Main processes of the discharge were the ionization of $D_2$ by fast $D_2^+\;ion$. As the number of cathode rings was small and the size of grid cathode decreased, the ion current increased and neutron production rate will also increase. The star mode discharge which is a very important characteristic in SCBF device, was confirmed by the ionization position.

  • It needs to conceptualize watershed with triangular or rectangular elements and to analyze the changes in hydrological components of each element for distributed modeling of rainfall-runoff process. This study is the network analysis of watershed grid for flow routing occurred in each element when analyzing rainfall-runoff process by one-dimensional kinematic wave equation. Single flow direction from D8-method(deterministic eight-neighbors method) is used, and the information of flow direction and flow accumulation are used to determine the computation order of each element. The application theory of finite volume method is suggested for each flow direction pattern between elements, and it is applied it to calculate the flow of each grid. Network analysis method from this study is applied to GRM(Grid based Rainfall-runoff Model) which is physically based distributed rainfall-runoff model, and the results from simplified hypothetical watersheds are compared with $Vflo^{TM}$ to examine the reasonability of the method. It is applied to Jungrangcheon watershed in Han river for verification, and examination of the applicability to real site. The results from Jungrangcheon watershed show good agreement with measured hydrographs, and the application of the network analysis method to real site is proper.

  • The spacer grid is one of the main structural components in the fuel assembly, which supports the fuel rods, guides cooling water, and protects the system from an external impact load, such as earthquakes. Therefore, the mechanical and structural properties of the spacer grids must be extensively examined while designing them. In this paper, a numerical method for predicting the buckling strength of spacer grids is presented. Numerical analyses on the buckling behavior of the spacer grids are performed for a various array of sizes of the grids considering that the spacer grid is an assembled structure with thin-walled plates and imposing proper boundary conditions by nonlinear dynamic finite element method using ABAQUS/Explicit. Buckling tests on several numbers of specimens of the spacer grid were also carried out in order to compare the results between the test and the simulation result. The drop test is accomplished by dropping a carriage on the specimen at a pre-determined position. From this test, the specimens are buckled only at the uppermost and the lowermost layer among the multi-cells, which is similar to the local buckling at the weakest point of the grid structure. The simulated results also similarly predicted the local buckling phenomena and were found to give good correspondence with the experimental values for the thin-walled grid structures.

  • The radiating or receiving characteristics of array elements (i.e., antennas) are changed from those of isolated elements due to mutual coupling effects and the array performance becomes different from those originally designed by assuming isolated elements. The effects of mutual coupling on the performance of a rectangular array with triangular grid geometry of dipoles above a ground plane are discussed with respect to element pattern. The concept of element gain function is used to examine the effects of mutual coupling on the array performance in terms of sidelobe level in the uniformly spaced and space-tapered rectangular arrays with triangular grid geometry of dipoles. It was shown that the sidelobe performance improved in the space-tapered array compared to the uniformly spaced array in the presence of mutual coupling effects. Computer simulation results are presented.

  • The two-dimensional incompressible and compressible Navier-Stokes codes are developed for the computation of the viscous turbulent flow over high-lift airfoils. Incompressible code using pseudo-compressibility and dual-time stepping method involves a conventional upwind differencing scheme for the convective terms and LU-SGS scheme for time integration. Compressible code also adopts an FDS scheme and LU-SGS scheme. Several two-equation turbulence models (the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model, the $k-{\omega}$ model. and $k-{\omega}$ SST model) are evaluated by computing the flow over single and multi-element airfoils. The compressible and incompressible codes are validated by computing the flow around the transonic RAE2822 airfoil and the NACA4412 airfoil, respectively. Both the results show a good agreement with experimental surface pressure coefficients and velocity profiles in the boundary layers. Also, the GA(W)-1 single airfoil and the NLR7301 airfoil with a flap are computed using the two-equation turbulence models. The grid systems around two- and three-element airfoil are efficiently generated using Chimera grid scheme, one of the overlapping grid generation methods.
