  • The dispersion of a pollutant in a turbulent boundary layer has been described in this study by using a two-dimensional lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) and the Smagorinsky sub-grid-scale (SGS) model. The scalar transport equation corresponding to the pollutant concentration is adopted; the pollutant is considered to be in a continuous phase. The pollutant source is classified as ground-level source (GLS) and elevated-point source (ES). Air velocity and particle concentration profile for the pollutant are compared with the respective results and profiles obtained in the experiments of Fackrell and Robins (1982) and Raupach and Legg (1983). The numerical results obtained in this study, i.e., the simulation and the experimental data for the mean flow velocity profiles and the pollutant concentration profiles, are in good agreement with each other.

  • In this study, the applicability of finite analytic method (FAM) is studied by selecting linearized-Burgers equation and Burgers equation which have convective and diffusive behaviors as the model equation of Navier-Stokes equations and by comparing numerical solution of finite difference method (FDM) and finite analytic method. The results are as follows. It is shown that the convergence of FAM for steady-state analytic solution of linearized-Burgers equation and Burgers equation is better than that of FDM under the same criteria. Also the accuracy of FAM for transient solution of Burgers equation is excellent. Especially, it is shown that oscillation phenomenon due to dispersion errors which occur according to the choice of grid size in FDM does not occur in FAM at all. So, it can be thought that FAM is numerically very stable scheme, which is free from dispersion errors.

  • In order to predict the dispersion of suspended sediment arising from dredging operation in port and navigation channel, a hybrid model for dispersive transport of turbidity plume was developed using Lee's(1998) hybrid method. Using hybrid modeling scheme advection-diffusion equation was solved by the forward particle-tracking method for advection process and by the fixed Eulerian grid method for diffusion process. To examine numerical model simulation in accuracy, the simulated results for 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D cases were compared with the analytical solutions including Kuo, et al's (1985) 3-D mathematical model. The model results were in a good agreement with the analytical solutions and mathematical model for the dispersion of turbidity plume.

  • This paper presents the effect of numerical parameters, such as grid size and grid ratio, on the outflow hydrograph of a unit-width plane in the linear Muskingum-Cunge method. The numerical results depend on Courant number C and cell Reynolds number D, two physically and numerically meaningful parameters. As C approache 1 and D increases, the numerical dispersion-relating oscillations are difficult to occur. The numerical oscillations occur in the front of a propagating wave for C < 1, while smaller oscillations occur behind the wave for C > 1 due to the numerical diffusion effect. For a plane with a small value of characteristic reach length L (e.g., a steep plane), the numerical solution of the Muskingum-Cunge method is similar to that of the kinematic wave method, which shows no wave attenuation. However, for a plane with a large value of L (e.g., a mild plane), the Muskingum-Cunge method leads to the diffusion waves which are essentially independent of the Courant number. Accordingly, the Muskingum-Cunge method will be suited for the routing of the catchment with relatively mild slopes.

  • The three level(3L) neutral point clamped (NPC) voltage source converter (VSC) topology is widely used for grid interface in high power wind energy due to its superior performance as compared to the two level(2L) VS. However, one of the major drawbacks of this topology is the unequal dispersion of loss and therefore the junction temperature among the power devices. The 3L ANPC topology derived from the NPC topology was proposed to resolve this drawback of unequal loss profile of 3L NPC. The 3L ANPC can work under various switching strategies. In this paper a comparative study of the various switching strategies of 3L ANPC using the recently developed 10kV IGCTs which has the capability to raise the current and voltage rating of the wind turbines is carried out. The comparison is performed using ABB make 10kV IGCT 5SHY17L9000 and PLECs simulations.

  • Sediment samples were taken at about half-mile intervals from all the inajor rivers draining the St. Austell granite mass. The minus 80 mesh(B.S.S.) fraction of each sample was analysed, using semiquantitative methods, for sodium, potassium, lithium, phosphorus, nickel, chromium, tin, tungsten, arsenic copper, zinc and lead. The work was carried out with the view to gaining further information as to the geographical distribution of such different granite facies as might axist, and to investigate the geochemical dispersion of these elements with relation to mineralisation in this area. The sesults confirm Exley's suggestion that the mass consists of two major granite intrusions, the earlier undifferentiated one is joined on the west by a later differentiated intrutive. During the work grid deviation maps proved particularly useful in obtaining data concerning the nature of the granite but frequency diagrams were not particularly helpful. All the known lode areas were associated with stream sediments containing anomalously high concentrations of lode metals and it is concluded that these high concentrations are due premarily to lode material transferred to the streams in the form of tailings lost during milling operations.

  • For the first time, this study identifies Nash model parameters by GIUH theory based on grid of GIS with heterogeneity of drainage path. Identified parameters have advantages to improve accuracy and usefulness with considering hillslpoe-flow, geomorphological dispersion and easily extracting geomorphological factors by GIS in the watershed. Calculated results by identified parameters compare with observation data for verification of this model. The comparison is well correspondence between observed data and calculated results. And the comparison results of changing trends about lag time and the variance as hillslope and channel characteristic velocities sensitively present changes about hillslope characteristic velocity. Thus this model justifies that estimation of hillslope characteristic velocity demands with the great caution.

  • Computer simulation plays an important role for a theoretical foundation in convergence technology and the interpolation is to know the unknown values from known values on grid points. Therefore it is an important problem to select an interpolation method for digital simulation. The aim of this paper is to compare analysis of interpolation methods for digital simulation. we test six different interpolation methods namely: Quartic-Lagrangian, Cubic Spline, Fourier, Hermit, PWENO and SL-WENO. Through digital simulation of a linear advection equation, we analyse pros and cons for each method. In order to compare performance, we introduce accuracy computing and Error functions. The accuracy computing is used well-known $L^1-norm$ and the Error functions are dispersion function, dissipation function and total error function. High-order methods well apply to computer simulation, unfortunately, side-effects (Oscillation) happen.

  • Consequences of an anticipated Beyond Design Basis Accident (BDBA) Long-Term Station Blackout (LTSBO) event with complete loss of grid power in the VVER-1200 reactor of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) of Unit-1 are assessed using the RASCAL 4.3 code. This study estimated the released radionuclides, received public radiological dose, and ground surface concentration considering 3 accident scenarios of International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES) level 7 and two meteorological conditions. Atmospheric transport, dispersion, and deposition processes of released radionuclides are simulated using a straight-line trajectory Gaussian plume model for short distances and a Gaussian puff model for long distances. Total Effective Dose Equivalent (TEDE) to the public within 40 km and radionuclides contribution for three-dose pathways of inhalation, cloudshine, and groundshine owing to airborne releases are evaluated considering with and without passive safety Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) in dry (winter) and wet (monsoon) seasons. Source term and their release rates are varied with the functional duration of passive safety ECCS. In three accident scenarios, the TEDE of 10 mSv and above are confined to 8 km and 2 km for the wet and dry seasons, respectively in the downwind direction. The groundshine dose is the most dominating in the wet season while the inhalation dose is in the dry season. Total received doses and surface concentration in the wet season near the plant are higher than those in the dry season due to the deposition effect of rain on the radioactive substances.

  • The product categories that can be sold on-line are expanding. It is interesting to see which product categories have more sales possibilities on internet. Small-sized firms' products have low distribution coverage, low brand recognition, bigger dispersion in the perception on the values which consist of quality vs. price, and higher possibilities of perceived purchase risks. Since on-line shopping is supposed to provide opportunities to small-sized firms that have low distribution and brand power, it is quite necessary to evaluate the fitness of on-line sales for small-sized firms' product categories. There are virtually no research studies on the on-line sales for small-sized firms' product categories. In this study, based on the integration of SEC, FCB, and related concepts, we develop new theoretical framework and test the fitness of on-line sales for small-sized firms' product categories by conducting empirical analysis. The empirical results on 17 product categories show that SEC, FCB, purchase risks, brand factors are somewhat related. Unlike previous studies, since the fitness of SEC and on-line sales are not clearly shown, we need to consider those problems within inter-related multiple frameworks. That is, it is necessary to evaluate the fitness of on-line sales after defining the product categories within the integrated multiple frameworks rather than within the single framework.
