  • In this study, a post-correlation analysis for shaking table test of square water storage tank is presented for the use of advances in earthquake-resistant design of liquid storage tank. For this purpose, the ANSYS CFX program is selected for the CFD analysis. Sensitivity analysis for resonant sloshing motion in terms of grid size and turbulence model suggested that (1) horizontal grid size as well as vertical grid size is a key variable in the sloshing analysis, and (2) the SST turbulence model is best for the sloshing analysis. Finally, correlation analyses for a non-resonant harmonic input and scaled earthquake excitation of the El Centro (1940) NS component are carried out using the grid and turbulence model established through the post-correlation analysis for the resonant motion. As a result, sloshing time histories by the CFD analysis agreed very well with the test results.

  • Topographic information is indispensable in the applications that require elevational data. These applications are exemplified by watershed partition, extraction of drainage networks, viewshed analysis, derivation of geomorphologic features, quantification of landslide-terrain, and identification of topographic settings susceptible to landsliding. Therefore, we study the accuracy of data on topographic parameters derived from digital elevation models(DEMs). This research wished to analyze the effect that data source and grid size get in topography parameter using gridded DEM. An analysis of topography parameter extract and compared drainage basin, watershed slope, stream network using DEM is constructed by digital map and DTED DEM. Especially, when extract stream network from gridded DEM, received much effects according to threshold value of flowaccumulation regardless of DEM grid size. Therefore, this study applied equal threshold value of flowaccumulation for two data sources, and compare and analyzed stream network.

  • Morphological information such as shape and margin of micro lesion is important information for diagnosis of disease in clinical imaging. In this study, we investigated the morphological changes of the micro lesions by comparing the contrast and area in grid suppressed DR images according to grid frequency. In the profile analysis of the image, the mass showed an average intensity variation of 8.6 ~ 72.4 after suppression, The higher the grid frequency, the more the contrast was increased. However, in the images obtained using 103 lp / inch, which is a grid frequency less than the sampling frequency, the contrast of the mass in the vertical direction decreased after suppression. In the binary image, the area change of the mass was also large. As a result, the shape, size, and margin of the mass changed. In the case of very small calcification, the higher the grid frequency is the larger the change in contrast, so that a clear image can be obtained in the post-suppression image. However, we could confirm that the margin of the lesion was blurred and the lesion was lost in some of the images using the 103 lp / inch grid. The higher the frequency of the grid, The change of the contrast of fiber occurred largely and clear boundary was confirmed. The decrease of the number of pixels was small and morphological change was small. In conclusion, when using a grid frequency that is not suitable for the sample frequency, morphological changes or lesion loss of micro lesions in the post- suppression image may give the possibility of misdiagnosis in diagnosis and differentiation of the image.

  • This paper reviews various bulk-type cloud microphysics parameterizations (BCMPs). BCMP, predicting the moments of size distribution of hydrometeors, parameterizes the grid-resolved cloud and precipitation processes in atmospheric models. The generalized gamma distribution is mainly applied to represent the hydrometeors size distribution in BCMPs. BCMP can be divided in three different methods such as single-moment, double-moment, and triple-moment approaches depending on the number of prognostic variables. Single-moment approach only predicts the hydrometeors mixing ratio. Double-moment approach predicts not only the hydrometeors mixing ratio but also the hydrometeors number concentration. Triple-moment approach predicts the dispersion parameter of hydrometeors size distribution through the prognostic reflectivity, together with the number concentrations and mixing ratios of hydrometeors. Triple-moment approach is the most time expensive method because it has the most number of prognostic variables. However, this approach can allow more flexibility in representing hydrometeors size distribution relative to single-moment and double-moment approaches. At the early stage of the development of BMCPs, warm rain processes were only included. Ice-phase categories such as cloud ice, snow, graupel, and hail were included in BCMPs with prescribed properties for densities and sedimentation velocities of ice-phase hydrometeors since 1980s. Recently, to avoid fixed properties for ice-phase hydrometeors and ad-hoc category conversion, the new approach was proposed in which rimed ice and deposition ice mixing ratios are predicted with total ice number concentration and volume.

  • Due to the variable nature of renewable energy resources and power demand by consumers, it is difficult to operate a power system installed with only one type of renewable energy resource. Grid-based renewable generation may be the only solution to overcome this problem. The conventional approach based on a low-voltage converter with power frequency transformer is commonly employed for grid connection of offshore renewable energy systems. Because of the heavy weight and large size of the transformer, the system can be expensive and complex in terms of installation and maintenance. In this paper, an 11-kV series connected H-bridge (SCHB) multilevel voltage source converter (VSC) is proposed to achieve a compact and light direct grid connection of renewable energy systems. This paper presents the design, simulation and analysis of a five level (5L)-SCHB and an eleven level (11L)-SCHB VSC for 11-kV grid-based renewable energy systems. The performance, cost, modulation scheme and harmonic spectra of the converter are analyzed.

  • A spacer grid assembly, which is an interconnected array of slotted grid straps and is welded at the intersections to form an egg crate structure, is one of the main structural components of the nuclear fuel assembly for pressurized water reactors(PWRs). The spacer grid assembly is structurally required to have enough buckling strength under various kinds of lateral loads acting on the nuclear fuel assembly so as to keep the nuclear fuel assembly straight. And also, the spacer grid assembly is hydraulically required to have less hydraulic resistance of coolant. To meet this requirement, it is necessary to weld the welding parts carefully and precisely. In this study, weld qualities such as, weld bead size and spatter manufactured by various welders were compared and analyzed. And performance parameters such as impact strength of spacer grid and hydraulic resistance of coolant were also compared and analyzed. Comparison results show that the weld qualities could be improved by selecting the optimal welding condition and also improving the welding technique.

  • The ocean wave is hydrodynamically investigated to get more reliable solution. To improve the computational accuracy more fine grids are used with relatively less computer storage on the free surface. One element of the free surface is discretized into more fine grids because the free-surface waves are much affected by the grid size in the finite difference scheme. Here the multi-grid method is applied to confirm the efficiency for the S103 ship model by solving the Navier-Stokes equation for the turbulent flows. According to the computational result approximately 30% can be improved in the free surface generation, Finally the limiting streamlines show numerical result is similar to the experiment by twin tuft.

  • A series of numerical studies are carried out for the different regimes of the detonation phenomena to investigate the computational requirements for the simulation of the cell structure of detonation wave by varying the reaction constants and grid resolutions. The computational results are investigated by comparing the solution of steady ZND structure to draw out the minimum grid resolutions and the size of the computational domain for capturing cell structures of the different regimes of the detonation phenomena.

  • Mobile robots use an environment map of its workspace to complete the surveillance task. However grid-based maps that are commonly used map format for mobile robot navigation use a large size of memory for accurate representation of environment. In this reason, grid-based maps are not suitable for path planning of mobile robots using embedded board. In this paper, we present the path planning algorithm that produce a secure path rapidly. The proposed approach utilizes a hybrid map that uses less memory than grid map and has same efficiency of a topological map. Experimental results show that the fast path planning uses only 1.5% of the time that a grid map based path planning requires. And the results show a secure path for mobile robot.
