  • This paper presents an active anti-islanding detection method using negative sequence voltage injection to the grid through a three-phase photovoltaic inverters. Because islanding operation mode can cause a variety of problems, the islanding detection of grid-connected photovoltaic inverter is the mandatory feature. The islanding mode is detected by measuring the magnitude of negative sequence impedance calculated by the negative sequence voltage and current at the point of common coupling. Simulation and experimental test are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method which can detect the islanding mode in the specified time. The test has been done in accordance with the condition on IEEE Std 929-2000.

Fault Line Detection Methodology for Four Parallel Lines on the Same Tower

  • A method for faulted line detection of four parallel lines on the same tower is presented, based on four-summing and double-differential sequences of one terminal current. Four-summing and double-differential sequences of fault current can be calculated using a certain transformation matrix for parameter decoupling of four parallel transmission lines. According to fault boundary conditions, the amplitude and phase characteristics of four-summing and double-differential sequences of fault current is studied under conditions of different types of fault. Through the analysis of the relationship of terminal current and fault current, a novel methodology for fault line detection of four parallel transmission line on the same tower is put forward, which can pick out the fault lines no matter the fault occurs in single line or cross double lines. Simulation results validate that the methodology is correct and reliable under conditions of different load currents, transient resistances and fault locations.

  • Correct and fast detection of a micro-grid (MG) islanding is essential to the MG since operation, control and protection of the MG depend on an operating mode i.e., an interconnected mode or an islanding mode. When islanding occurs, the frequency of the point of common coupling (PCC) is not the nominal frequency during the transient state owing to the frequency rise or drop of generators in the MG. Thus, the active and reactive power calculated by the frequency domain based method such as Fourier Transform might contain some errors. This paper proposes an islanding detection algorithm for the MG based on the instantaneous active and reactive powers delivered to the dedicated line in the time domain. During the islanding mode, the instantaneous active and reactive powers delivered to the dedicated line are constants, which depend on the voltage of the PCC and the impedance of the dedicated line. In this paper, the instantaneous active and reactive powers are calculated in the time domain and used to detect islanding. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified under various scenarios including islanding conditions, fault conditions and load variation using the PSCAD/EMTDC simulator. The results indicate that the algorithm successfully detects islanding for the MG.

  • This paper proposes a novel active frequency drift(AFD) method for the islanding prevention of grid-connected photovoltaic inverter. To detect the islanding phenomenon of grid-connected photovoltaic(PV) inverters concerning about the safety hazards and the damage to other electric equipments, many kinds of anti-islanding methods have been presented. Among them, AFD method using chopping fraction(cf) enables the islanding detection to drift up(or down) the frequency of the voltage during the islanding situation. However, the performance of the conventional AFD methods, which have a certain value of cf only, is inefficient and difficult to design the appropriate cf value analytically to meet the limit of harmonics. In this paper, the periodic chopping fraction based on an AFD method is proposed. This proposed method shows the analytical design value of cf to meet the test procedure of IEEE Std. 929-2000 with the power quality and islanding detection time. To verify the validation of the proposed method, the islanding test results are presented. It is confirmed that the proposed method has not only less harmonic distortion but also good performance of islanding detection compare with the conventional AFD method.

A New Islanding Detection Method Based on Feature Recognition Technology

  • Three-phase grid-connected inverters are widely applied in the fields of new energy power generation, electric vehicles and so on. Islanding detection is necessary to ensure the stability and safety of such systems. In this paper, feature recognition technology is applied and a novel islanding detection method is proposed. It can identify the features of inverter systems. The theoretical values of these features are defined as codebooks. The difference between the actual value of a feature and the codebook is defined as the quantizing distortion. When islanding happens, the sum of the quantizing distortions exceeds the threshold value. Thus, islanding can be detected. The non-detection zone can be avoided by choosing reasonable features. To accelerate the speed of detection and to avoid miscalculation, an active islanding detection method based on feature recognition technology is given. Compared to the active frequency or phase drift methods, the proposed active method can reduce the distortion of grid-current when the inverter works normally. The principles of the islanding detection method based on the feature recognition technology and the improved active method are both analyzed in detail. An 18 kVA DSP-based three-phase inverter with the SVPWM control strategy has been established and tested. Simulation and experimental results verify the theoretical analysis.

  • In this paper, discrete wavelet transform using a PV system covers how the detection of a islanding. Connection point occur exclusively in Grid when the grid voltage and current operation of the wavelet coefficients by changing features will determine if islanding operation. The proposed method has simple computation and fast decision time has the advantage. DSP-based controller through the experiment proved the validity of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a method for autonomous exploration of indoor environments using a 2-dimensional Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) scanner. The proposed frontier-based exploration method considers navigability from the current robot position to extracted frontier targets. An approach to constructing the point cloud grid map that accurately reflects the occupancy probability of glass obstacles is proposed, enabling identification of safe frontier grids on the safety grid map calculated from the point cloud grid map. Navigability, indicating whether the robot can successfully navigate to each frontier target, is calculated by applying the skeletonization-informed rapidly exploring random tree algorithm to the safety grid map. While conventional exploration approaches have focused on frontier detection and target position/direction decision, the proposed method discusses a safe navigation approach for the overall exploration process until the completion of mapping. Real-world experiments have been conducted to verify that the proposed method leads the robot to avoid glass obstacles and safely navigate the entire environment, constructing the point cloud map and calculating the navigability with low computing time deviation.

  • Unintentional islanding results in safety hazards, reliability, and many other issues. Therefore, the islanding detection of a power conditioning system of a distributed generation, such as a grid-connected photovoltaic inverter, is a key function for standard compliance. Currently, many anti-islanding schemes have been examined, but existing anti-islanding schemes have poor power quality and non-detection zone issues. Therefore, this study analyzes the non-detection zone in a more deliberate manner than the existing analysis of the non-detection zone and proposes a new anti-islanding scheme, which has negligible power quality degradation and no non-detection zone. Simulation and experimental results validate that the proposed scheme shows much better performance than other existing schemes.

  • Since anti-islanding scheme of grid-connected inverter is a key function of standards compliance, unintentional islanding results in safety hazards, reliability, and many other issues. Therefore, many anti-islanding schemes have been researched, however, existing anti-islanding schemes show poor power quality and non-detection zone issues. Besides, most of them have problems which deteriorate performance of islanding detection under parallel-operation. Therefore, this paper proposes a new anti-islanding scheme that has both negligible power quality degradation, no non-detection zone and precise islanding detection under parallel-operation. Finally, both simulation and experimental results validate the proposed scheme.

  • The new islanding detection method using wavelet energy is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is based on the autocorrelation of the wavelet energies, which is obtained from the high-frequency components of the grid voltage. It has the enhanced detection capabilities in the UV/OV/UF/OF region, which the conventional passive methods cannot obtain. The mathematical theories on the wavelet are presented, and the performance effectiveness is proved by the experimental results.
