Global climate change caused by greenhouse gases(GHG) is getting serious. To prevent this, countries around the world are regulating GHG emissions. Korea has decided to reduce GHG emissions by 37% compared to BAU (Business As Usual) by 2030. The transportation sector accounted for 18.58% of the domestic GHG emission, and roads accounted for 93.75% of the total. Public transportation is also included in the target of GHG reduction, and this study was conducted to reduce GHG emissions of bus public transportation, which can reduce GHG emissions while reducing the cost of road transportation. In this study, a simulation was conducted to predict the optimal GHG emission compared to the waiting time of passengers by adjusting the bus dispatch interval by implementing a greenhouse gas simulation model using Any Logic. If a more precise model is implemented in the future, it is expected that it will be used to reduce bus GHG emissions.
Taking sample processes from the combined heat and power plant in Busan Fashion Color Industry Complex, the characteristics and amounts of greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions were analysed and calculated, respectively. Based on the results, environmental assessment was evaluated for recent 3 years. The amounts of GHG emissions from 2011 to 2013 were estimated at 182,750, 184,384 and 190,250 $Ton.CO_2eq/year$, respectively. GHG emissions from stationary combustion sources were found to be more than 99 % of the total emissions. Also, the overall eco-efficiency indicator for environmental assessment was more than 1, suggesting that these results would be beneficial for GHG emissions allowance allocations.
This study estimates the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction resulting from photovoltaic and wind power technologies using a bottom-up approach for an indirect emission source (scope 2) in South Korea. To estimate GHG reductions from photovoltaic and wind power activities under standard operating conditions, methodologies are derived from the 2006 IPCC guidelines for national GHG inventories and the guidelines for local government greenhouse inventories of Korea published in 2016. Indirect emission factors for electricity are obtained from the 2011 Korea Power Exchange. The total annual GHG reduction from photovoltaic power (23,000 tons CO2eq) and wind power (30,000 tons CO2eq) was estimated to be 53,000 tons CO2eq. The estimation of individual GHGs showed that the largest component is carbon dioxide, accounting for up to 99% of the total GHG. The results of estimation from photovoltaic and wind power were 63.60% and 80.22% of installed capacity, respectively. The annual average GHG reductions from photovoltaic and wind power per year per unit installed capacity (MW) were estimated as 549 tons CO2eq/yr·MW and 647 tons CO2eq/yr·MW, respectively. Finally, the results showed that the level of GHG reduction per year per installed capacity of photovoltaic and wind power is 62% and 42% compared to the CDM project, respectively.

The study was conducted to determine greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories in grasslands. After 'Low Carbon Green Growth' was declared a national vision on 2008, Medium-term greenhouse gas reduction was anticipated for 30% reduction compared to Business As Usual (BAU) by 2020. To achieve the reduction targets and prepare to enforce emissions trading (2015), national GHG inventories were measured based on the 1996 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Guidelines (IPCC GL). The national Inventory Report (NIR) of Korea is published every year. Grassland sector measurement was officially added in 2014. GHG removal of grassland soil was measured from 1990 to 2012. Grassland area data of Korea was used for farmland area data in the "Cadastral Statistical Annual Report (1976~2012)". Annual grassland area corresponding to the soil classification was used "Soil classification and commentary in Korea (2011)". Grassland area was divided into 'Grassland remaining Grassland' and 'Land converted to Grassland'. The accumulated variation coefficient was assumed to be the same without time series changes in grassland remaining grassland. Therefore, GHG removal of soil carbon was calculated as zero (0) in grassland remaining grassland. Since the grassland area increases constantly, the grassland soil sinks constantly . However, the land converted to grassland area continued to decrease and GHG removal of soil carbon was reduced. In 2012 (127.35Gg $CO_2$), this removal decreased by 76% compared to 1990 (535.71 Gg $CO_2$). GHG sinks are only grasslands and woodlands. The GHG removaled in grasslands was very small, accounting for 0.2% of the total. However, the study provides value by identifying grasslands as GHG sinks along with forests.
This study quantitatively analyzes the impact of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction policies on the global economy. To this end, we develop a multi-national and multi-industry static computational general equilibrium model that includes three components-GHG emissions from production, disutility due to GHG emissions, and governments' GHG emissions reduction policies. Then we calibrate the model with the relevant data and solve for the equlibrium using the most recent methodology (exact hat algebra). We find that the strengthening of unilateral GHG emissions reduction policies for each country reduces carbon emissions from domestic producers, but does not necessarily reduce global carbon emissions as production is relocated to other countries. On the other hand, we can reduce GHG emissions when all major countries simultaneously implement the strengthened reduction policies proposed by the OECD (2016). Our results imply that aligned reduction efforts of major countries are necessary to reduce global GHG emissions.

This study is proposing a System Dynamics Model for estimating Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission from treating Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in South Korea for years 2000 to 2030. The government of country decided to decrease the total GHG emission from waste sector in 2030 as per Business-as-usual level. In context, four scenarios are generated to predict GHG emission from treating the MSW with three processes i.e., landfill, incineration and recycling. For prior step, MSW generation rate is projected for present and future case using population and waste generation per capita data. It is found that population and total MSW are directly correlated. The total population will increase to 56.27 million and total MSW will be 21.59 million tons in 2030. The methods for estimating GHG emission from landfill, incineration and recycling are adopted from IPCC, 2006 guidelines. The study indicates that Scenario 2 is best to adopt for decreasing the total GHG emission in future where recycling waste is increased to 75% and landfill waste is decreased to 7.6%. Lastly, it is concluded that choosing proper method for treating the MSW in country can result into savings of GHG emission.
Transportations are representative sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. Advanced countries (especially, EU and Japan etc.) have performed several efforts to decrease GHG released from railroad. In this study, we investigated the reduction methods of GHG in railroad industry. The GHG emissions in railroad are mainly caused by the energy consumption during operation. Therefore, it is necessary to develop technologies for the increase of energy efficiency and the application of clean energy such as solar and wind energy instead of diesel. From these studies, we can establish various strategies to reduce GHG efficiently in Korean railroad.

The aim of this study was to characterize the emission pathways and the footprint of greenhouse gases (GHG) in Daecheong Reservoir using the G-res Tool, and to evaluate the GHG emission intensity (EI) compared to other energy sources. In addition, the change in GHG emissions was assessed in response to the total phosphorus (TP) concentration. The GHG flux in post-impoundment was found to be 262 gCO2eq/m2/yr, of which CO2 and CH4 were 45.7% and 54.2%, respectively. Diffusion of CO2 contributed the most, followed by diffusion, degassing, and bubbling of CH4. The net GHG flux increased to 510 gCO2eq/m2/yr because the forest (as CO2 sink) was lost after dam construction. The EI of Daecheong Reservoir was 86.8 gCO2eq/kWh, which is 3.7 times higher than the global EI of hydroelectric power, due to its low power density. However, it was remarkable to highlight the value to be 9.5 times less than that of coal, a fossil fuel. We also found that a decrease in TP concentration in the reservoir leads to a decrease in GHG emissions. The results can be used to improve understanding of the GHG emission characteristics and to reduce uncertainty of the national GHG inventory of dam reservoirs.

The purpose of this study is to analysis of counter strategy of greenhouse gas·energy target management system for the construction firm. For this purpose, the greenhouse gas·energy target management system of other industries was investigated. The selection possibility that is construction firm to be managed company was analyzed. In addition, status of counter strategy on the greenhouse gas·energy target management system were investigated and analyzed about 5 domestic major construction firm via questionnaire and interview. As a result, the counter strategy by organization and annual for the greenhouse gas·energy target management system was drawn.
Until now, the eco-friendly construction (green construction) has been focused on reducing environmental impacts in use(operation and maintenance) phase. Considering the environmental influence along the life cycle of construction project, the impact in execution phase is rather lower than that in use phase. However, that impact is thought to be greatly decreased by well-organized activities. Based on its urgency and requirement for timely action, this study aimed to discuss the greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction plan in execution phase from a broad perspective. To achieve this purpose, the green building rating systems in domestic and foreign countries have been reviewed, and the practice in Japan was investigated. In order to improve current on-site greenhouse gas management, the integration among construction phases, participants, and environmental factors, and institutional supports are required as well as the contractor's efforts.
