  • For satisfactory greenhouse culture, environmental factors must be kept in proper conditions. Therefore, it is important to know relations between environmental conditions and greenhouse systems. In this study, the environment variations and distributions in different types of greenhouses were measured and analyzed. The elements of environment analyzed were temperature , relative humidity, illumination, carbon dioxide and wind velocity. The analyzed greenhouse types were three different types. One of them, A type, was propagation model type by government and the other one, B type, was multiple continuous arches type which was made by farmers himself. The last one, C type, was single arch type which has no environment control system without manual temperature keeping method. The results of this study can be used for reasonable greenhouse environments managements and control.

  • This study was conducted to screen the antagonistic bacteria which inhibit the growth of plant pathogen, fusarium wilt(Fusarium oxysporum) occurred in tomato plants in greenhouse. We isolated an effective bacterial strains and investigated into the antifungal activity of the antagonistic microorganism and it’s identification. Ten bacterial strains which strongly inhibited Fusarium oxysporum were isolated from the nature, and the best antagonistic bacterial strain designated as KC175, was selected. The antagonistic strain KC175 was identified to be the genus Bacillus sp. based on the morphological and biochemical characterization. The Bacillus sp. KC175 showed 58.2% of antifungal activity against the growth of Fusarium oxysporum. By the bacterialization of the culture broth and the heat bacterialization culture filtrate of it, Bacillus sp. KC175 showed 91% and 18% of antifungal activity, respectively.

  • Shading and soil environment are the main factors of growth and yield in ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer). Ginseng yield is directly related to survival rate because of increased missing plant for their growing period. Under field conditions, diseases and pests significantly affect plant survival rate. We evaluated the seedling establishment, growth and ginsenoside of the ginseng plants, under controlled management conditions in a plastic greenhouse, when their treated with different types of organic matter. Ginseng seeds were sown at a rate of three seeds per hole, and the seeding space measured $10cm{\times}15cm$. Compared to the control, treatment of cattle manure vermicompost (CMV) was shown to increase seedling establishment and decrease ginsenoside content. Root weights of plants treated with CMV were higher than those of plants treated with other types of organic matter. In addition, seedling establishment of 2-year-old ginseng plants was decreased when it was compared to that of 1-year-old ginseng plants. Our results indicated that organic matter type and rate were associated with seedling establishment, growth characteristic and ginsenoside content in greenhouse of ginseng direct-sowing culture.

  • We developed an in vitro assay method for evaluating plant growth promotion and providing an evidence that the growth promotion is rendered by growth enhancing factors. The amendment of culture filtrates of Trichoderma harzianum T95 and Gliocladium virens G872 and G872B in Murashige and Skoog (MS) agar medium enhanced the cotyledon growth of cucumber in terms of fresh weight and primary leaf area of cucumber cotyledon cuttings, of which the treatment of G. virens G872B was the most effective. The mycelial culture filtrate of G872B was more effective in the growth promotion than its conidial germling filtrate. The addition of 1% sucrose in MS mineral medium with 0.1% culture filtrates of the antagonists (T95 and G872B) was optimum for enhancing the effect of the filtrates on the growth of cotyledon cuttings in vitro. When cucumber seeds treated with G872B, Pseudomonas putida Pf3 or the G872B-Pf3 mixture were planted in a greenhouse, the rate of seed germination, biomass of shoot and root, and yield of cucumber fruits were increased, especially by G872B or the G872B-Pf3 mixture. Correspondingly, cucumber fruit yields in early to middle-cycles of harvest were significantly greater in the plots of G872B than the control and Pf3-treated plots, and the final yield was highest in the plots of the G872B-Pf3 mixture applications.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of greenhouse orientation on the greenhouse environment and the growth and yield of tomato cv 'Momotaro-Yoku' in forcing culture. The photosynthetic phpton flux density (PPFD) of a.m was higher in north-south orientation than that in east-west orientation and it was opposed in the p.m. Mean PPFD of a day was higher in east-west orientation than that in north-south orientation because the light transmitting area became larger in east-west orientation with decrease of incidence angle. The PPFD at 60 cm point above ground of all furrows was poor due to shadows near plants and it was higher in north-south orientation than that in east-west orientation. The air temperature in the greenhouse was higher in east-west orientation than that in north-south orientation but there was no significant difference since mid February as solar altitude goes up. The soil temperature was some higher in east-west orientation than that in north-south orientation and there was not significant difference among ridges. In east-west orientation, as ripening was promoted, high early yield of tomato were obtained. So total yield was greater about 8% in east-west orientation than that in north-south orientation. Therefore, it was considered that east-west orientation is more advantageous than north-south orientation for forcing culture of tomato.

  • This study was conducted to compare colony forming unit (CFU) of microorganisms in closed and open soilless culture systems for estimating the possibility for potential disease occurrence. Samples were collected at four different positions in four commercial greenhouses with closed or open soilless culture system using rock wool or coir as substrate, respectively. The distance between sampling positions was 3 cm starting from the substrate and the surface area of each position was $25cm^2$. The CFU of fungi was significantly higher in the open system, while that of bacteria was not significantly different but showed relatively lower in the closed system. Samples collected at the plastic surface of the substrates where little environmental effects occurred from drainage showed lower CFU than any other positions. The principal component analysis showed that samples collected on the drainage pathway highly affected the changes in microbial population in the greenhouse. These results indicated that greenhouses with closed soilless culture are expected to have more advantageous conditions for restraining the microbial growth, resulting in the lower potential of disease occurence in greenhouse ecosystem.

  • The in vitro culture of rice panicles is a culturing technique only panicle without other organs in culture solution containing organic substance, so that would be useful to study how assimilate supply affects grain development and maturation. To find the optimum stage for in vitro culture, rice panicles grown in greenhouse were sampled periodically after anthesis and cultured in nutrient medium. The panicles older than 1 weeks after anthesis had produced normal grains. Grain-filling was apparently dependent upon sucrose concentration (8-12 %) in medium, but not affected by nitrogen concentration supplied with glutamine. As far as rice panicle was supplied with sucrose and N in nutrient medium, grains continued accumulation of dry matter and maturation regardless to light condition. Considerably, grain-filling was improved when panicles were positioned horizontally inside flask, so that each grain was partially submerged to nutrient medium.

  • Background: The cultivation of ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) in greenhouses could reduce the use of pesticides and result in higher yield; however, construction costs are problematic. The adaptation of direct-sowing culture in greenhouses could reduce the cost of ginseng production. Methods and Results: To improve seedling establishment in direct-sowing culture, effects of sowing density (SD), number of seeds sown per hole (SN), and thinning (TH) treatment on the root yield were investigated after 3 years of seeding. The emergence rate was significantly influenced by SD, but not by SN or TH. Damping-off and rusty roots increased with an increase in SN with diminishing effects of SN on seedling establishment. Root weight and diameter were affected by SD, SN, and TH, however, there were no statistical significances. The total number of roots harvested per unit area increased with increasing SD and SN, and the weight of roots was affected by SD, but not by SN or TH. Conclusions: Multi-seed sowing per hole and/or thinning might not be an efficient method for the direct-sowing culture of ginseng. The SD for direct seeding culture in greenhouses should be approximately $33-42seeds/m^2$ for an optimum yield of 3-year-old ginseng.

  • Jeju where concentrates on agriculture and tourism, conversion of outdoor culture into cultivation under structure happens actively for the purpose of increasing profit so continuous examination on house cultivation area is very important for this region. This paper is to suggest the effective image classification method using high resolution satellite image to detect the greenhouse. We carried out classification of greenhouse using the supervised classification and rule-based classification method about Formosat-2 images. Connecting result of two classification try to find accuracy improvement for greenhouse detection. Results about each classification method were calculated the accuracy by comparing with the result of visual detection. As a result, mahalanobis distance among the supervised methods was resulted in the highest detection. Also, it could be checked that detection accuracy was improved by tying with result of supervised method and result of rule-based classification. Therefore, it was expected that effective detection of greenhouse would be feasible if henceforward further study is performed in the process of connecting supervised classification and rule-based classification.
