  • The present study was conducted to investigate the translocation of polyphenols, especially catechin derivatives, from mushroom medium mixed with green tea residues into fruiting body of Pleurotus eryngii. Pleurotus eryngii was grown on the media incorporated by mixing or surface-treated with dry materials including leaf petioles and young stems or leaves of green tea. The dry materials treated in medium did not affect plant height and fresh weight of Pleurotus eryngii body. From the samples of Pleurotus eryngii, the eight main catechin derivatives (-)-gallocatechin(GC), (+)-catechin (C), (-)-epicatechin (EC), (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC), (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), (-)-gallocatechin gallate (GCG), (-)-epicatechin gallate (ECG), and (-)-catechin gallate (EGCG), and caffeine were analyzed quantitatively by HPLC. The results showed that EGC in Pleurotus eryngii was 45% more detected, when incorporated with the dry materials, than untreated control. Especially, content of EGCG was increased in surface-treated Pleurotus eryngii up to 3.2 ppm, while it was not detected or reduced in control and other treatments. Caffeine content was greatly increased regardless of treatment method, compared with control (0.1ppm), showing 44 fold-amount in Pleurotus eryngii at early growth stage when incorporated with the dry materials into medium. The results indicates that functional catechin derivatives of green tea would be partly translocated into Pleurotus eryngii throught incorporation and surface treatment with residues of green tea plants.

  • The hydrodynamic interaction of two floating bodies in waves freely floating or connected by a rigid link is studied by using a boundary element method in the frequency-domain. The exact two-body hydrodynamic coefficients of added mass, wave damping and exciting force are calculated from the radiation-diffraction potential solution of the improved Green integral equation associated with the free surface Green function. The irregular frequencies in the conventional Green integral equation make it difficult to predict the physical resonance of the fluid in the gap between two bodies floating side by side. However, the improved Green integral equation employed in this study is free of irregular frequencies and always yields the exact solution of the multi-body radiation-diffraction potential boundary value problem. The 6 degree-of-freedom motions of two bodies freely floating side by side or connected parallel by a rigid link have been calculated for the incident wave frequencies ranging from 0.1 to 5 radians per second in head, left and right bow quartering seas. The 6-component load of the rigid link have also been presented.

Supplementation of 1, 2, 4 and 8% amount to the control diet of pine needle extract and mixture groups significantly decreased body weight gain and visceral fat mass compared with that of control diet group. Supplementation of 1, 2 and 4% amount to the control diet of black and green tea extracts groups significantly decreased body weight gain and visceral fat mass compared with that of control diet group. Anti-obese effect in body weight gain and visceral fat mass of mixture group was higher than in other groups. In human study, extracts mixture supplementation to overweight subjects significantly decreased both body weight and body fat compared with placebo control group. In vitro study, black and green tea extracts significantly inhibited both the pancreatic lipase and ${\alpha}-amylase$ activities dose dependently. In conclusion, the anti-obese effects of pine needle, black, and green teas in rats were found. In overweight human subjects, extracts mixture decreased body weight and body fat compared with placebo control group. Anti-obese effect in black and green tea groups might be from an decrease in carbohydrate and fat digestions via inhibition of pancreatic ${\alpha}-amylase$ and lipase activities in part.

  • We investigated the effect of green tea and its fractions of alcohol and polysaccharide on jejunal crypt survival, endogenous spleen colony formation, and apoptosis in jejunal crypt cells of mice irradiated with high and low dose of gamma-irradiation. Jejunal crypts were protected by pretreatment of green tea (i.p.: 50 mg/kg of body weight, at 12 and 36 hours before irradiation., p.o.: 1.25% water extract, for 7days before irradiation, p<0.01) and alcohol and polysaccharide fractions showed no significant modifying effects. Green tea and its fractions administration before irradiation (i.p. at 12 and 36hours before irradiation) resulted in an increase of the formation of endogenous spleen colony (p<0.05). The frequency of radiation-induced apoptosis in intestinal crypt cells was also reduced by pretreatment of green tea (i.p. at 12 and 36 hours before irradiation, p<0.05., p.o. for 7days before irradiation, p<0.001) and its fractions (p<0.001). These results indicated that green tea might be a useful radioprotector, especially since it is a relatively nontoxic natural product. Further studies are needed to characterize better the promotion nature of green tea and its components.

  • Green Tea consists of 15-30% catechins (a type of polyphenol), which act as super antioxidants, inhibitory action against aging process. Antioxidants fight radical-free oxygen, an agent which can begin the process of cancer by damaging essential body chemicals and harming DNA. This study was peformed to develop the elderly diet using Green Tea as an inhibitory action against aging process. Nokchaborijook (Baley gruel added rice powder and Green Tea) was manufactured by various levels of Green Tea(1, 4, 7%) and the grinding period(15, 30, 45 sec). The optimum levels of added Green Tea and grinding periods on Nokchaborijook were determined with the results of sensory evaluation by response surface methodology and analysis of composition. The Anti-oxidant Vitamin A, C, E and Flavonoid were increased with increased levels of Green Tea and grinding periods be decreased. As the levels of Green Tea and grinding periods were increased, the green color and penetrated force became stronger. Among the sensory attributes, Bitterness, Green Tea Flavor and Hashness were greater depending on increasing Green Tea. Jujube flavor was greater relying on decreasing Green Tea. Greenness and spreadability of particles were increased as both the amounts of Green Tea and the grinding period were increased. This result was used to determine the optimum conditions of adding levels of Green Tea and grinding periods. The optimum conditions of Nokchaborijook was established as adding of 5.8% Green Tea grinded for 15 seconds.

  • The influence of granules characteristics and compaction pressure on the microstructure and mechanical properties of sintered as a function of slurry dispersion state. The characteristics and the compaction behavior of the spray dried alumina granules considerably affected the microstructure as well as the mechanical properties of the sintered body. In the green bodies formed with granules prepared with a dispersed slurry, the granules with dimple clearly existed and caused pore defects in sintered body. These dimples were clearly present even in the green body prepared at 180 MPa. The pores between the granules were not removed during pressing and sintering, and remained in the sintered body. In contrast, in the granules fabricated from a flocculated slurry, the destroy of granules at the contact points was observed with increasing pressure. Sintered bodies fabricated with fewer defects showed strength increase. For the sample fabricated with flocculated slurry, the pores at the boundaries of granules were small and more irregular shape compared with those of dispersed slurry.

  • Impact forces are acting on the fore part of a body entering water and those are function o the shape of the fore part and entrance angle. In this paper, impact forces are computed for the flat faced body with arbitrary entrance angle The geometric characteristics of the wetted surface of the body are complicated. The surface is divided into several smooth parts and each of them is represented by a bi-cubic B-spline. The free surface condition, $\phi=0$, is applied at the undisturbed free surface and he boundary value problem is analized by using Green's function.
