  • This paper proposes a new image processing algorithm to recognize korean documents. It take out the region of syllable area from input character image, then it makes recognition of a consonant and a vowel in the character. A precision segmentation is very important to recognize the input character. The input image has 8-bit gray scaled resolution. Not only the shape but also vertical and horizontal lines dispersion graph are used for segmentation. Theresult shows a higher accuracy of character segmentation.

  • A digital image processing approach has been adopted to measure the flank wear area, which is very difficult to measure using conventional techniques. Automatic thresholding of the gray-level values of an image is very useful in automated analysis of image. 1-D entropy thresholding technique is used for image processing and analysis of the flank wear area. This strategy provides more information about drill wear conditions and should therefore have a higher reliability than previous methods. This study calulated quantitatively the flank were area of drill by computer program.

  • Thresholding has been used to reduce the number of gray values in images. Typically, a single threshold value has been used, resulting in two gray level images. Image reduction of one single threshold value, however, may lose too much of the high-frequency edge information. Thus, dynamic thresholding that uses a different threshold for each pixel is preferred instead of using a single threshold value. Dynamic thresholding can preserve high frequency details as well as reduce the size of images. Since it takes long time to perform existing software dynamic thresholding in an embedded system, this paper proposes and implements a circuit by using a FPGA in order to perform a real-time dynamic thresholding,. The proposed circuit consists of two counters, and threshold look-up table, and control unit. The values of two counters determine each pixel position, the threshold look-up table converts each pixel value into other value, and the control unit generates necessary control signals. On arriving from a camera to the proposed circuit, each pixel is compared with its threshold value and is converted into other gray value. An image processing system by using the proposed circuit will be implemented and some experiments will be performed.

  • The image processing system consisted of the microcomputer IBM PC-XT and the graphic board (16 gray level and $640{\times}400$ pixels resolution) has been proposed, and the image processing softwares programmed in the BASIC and in the assembler language have been developed. The programs are consisted of the main menu and the sub menu, that have contained the subroutine for the capture for image data, the determination of region, the histogram, the change of value, the montage, the skeleton, the mask, the moving, the zoom, the disk access and the print. For the application, the photoelastic fringe data have been captured and analyzed. It was seen that the programs are available for the image processing.

  • The purpose of this paper is the development of an automated measurement system for micro spring based on the digital image processing technique. This micro spring can be used in various engineering applications such as filament, load bearing springs, hard disk suspension and many others. Main functionality of the micro spring inspection system is to measure the representative pitch of the micro spring. The derivative operators are used for edge detection in gray level image. Measurement system developed in this paper consisted of new auto feeding mechanism to take advantage of air pressure. In the process of development of the micro spring inspection system based on the image processing and analysis, strong background technology and know-how have been accumulated to measure micro mechanical parts.

Study on Image Processing Techniques Applying Artificial Intelligence-based Gray Scale and RGB scale

  • Artificial intelligence is used in fusion with image processing techniques using cameras. Image processing technology is a technology that processes objects in an image received from a camera in real time, and is used in various fields such as security monitoring and medical image analysis. If such image processing reduces the accuracy of recognition, providing incorrect information to medical image analysis, security monitoring, etc. may cause serious problems. Therefore, this paper uses a mixture of YOLOv4-tiny model and image processing algorithm and uses the COCO dataset for learning. The image processing algorithm performs five image processing methods such as normalization, Gaussian distribution, Otsu algorithm, equalization, and gradient operation. For RGB images, three image processing methods are performed: equalization, Gaussian blur, and gamma correction proceed. Among the nine algorithms applied in this paper, the Equalization and Gaussian Blur model showed the highest object detection accuracy of 96%, and the gamma correction (RGB environment) model showed the highest object detection rate of 89% outdoors (daytime). The image binarization model showed the highest object detection rate at 89% outdoors (night).

메모리 크기에 효율적인 적분영상 하드웨어 설계 연구 (A Study of Integral Image Hardware Design for Memory Size Efficiency)

  • 적분영상은 입력영상의 픽셀 값을 기준좌표부터 순차적으로 누적하여 만든 영상으로, Haar-like features와 같은 네모난 박스 모양의 필터 연산을 효율적으로 처리하기 위하여 사용된다. 그러나 적분영상은 입력영상보다 3배 이상 많은 메모리를 소모하기 때문에, 메모리 자원이 제한적인 하드웨어 설계 환경에서는 사용이 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 효율적인 메모리 사용을 위한 적분영상 하드웨어 설계 방법을 제안한다. 해당 방법은 적분영상 이외에 세로적분영상과 가로적분영상을 생성하고, 입력영상을 재사용 하는 방법을 사용한다. 그리고 박스 필터의 크기에 따라 modulo 연산을 적용하여 적분영상의 데이터 크기를 줄이는 방법을 함께 적용하였다. 적분 영상 데이터를 읽기 위해 나누어진 영상 데이터를 다시 덧셈해야하는 연산 오버헤드가 발생하지만, 4개의 데이터를 단순히 더하는 연산이므로 병렬처리가 가능한 하드웨어 환경에서는 큰 영향을 미치지 않는다. Xilinx사의 Virtex5-LX330T를 대상으로 실험한 결과 $640{\times}480$ 크기의 8bit gray-scale 입력영상에서 최대 $32{\times}32$ 크기의 필터사용을 기준으로 50%의 적분영상 메모리를 감소시킬 수 있다.

  • This research describes a image-processing technique for the scratch detecting algorithm for ITO coated glass. We use the modified logical thresholding method (called adaptive logical thresholding method) for binarization of gray-scale glass image. This method is useful to the algorithm for detecting the scratch of ITO coated glass automatically without need of any prior information of manual fine-tuning of parameters.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method of automatic white balance which is one of the image signal processing techniques. Our method is conceptually based on gray world assumption. However, while previous methods generate linear results as multiplying pixel values by a gain, our method generates non-linear results using the feature of B-Spline curves. The two merits of deriving non-linear results are preventing AWB failure from transforming strong color of high level into wrong color and well preserving original contrast of an input image.
