Real-time Temporal Characterization and Performance Optimization of a kHz Femtosecond Ti:Sapphire Laser Using a Comprehensive SPIDER

  • A comprehensive real-time spectral phase interferometry for direct electric field reconstruction (SPIDER) apparatus for characterizing femtosecond laser pulses is demonstrated. The SPIDER provides the temporal profiles of femtosecond laser pulses, reconstructed at the speed of 3.5 Hz, with parameters of the spectral phase such as group delay dispersion and third-order dispersion. The apparatus is applied successfully to optimize the spectral dispersion of a kHz femtosecond Ti:Sapphire laser by adjusting a grating compressor in real time.

  • Blue light of 0.15mW at 417.6nm is generated in a quasi-phase-matched LITaO$_{3}$ optical waveguide. A new heat-treatment technique using a metal-oxide mask is proposed to fabricate the periodic domain-inverted grating with less degraded optical properties. The mask promotes the proton indiffusion by inhibition of the proton outdiffusion during the heat treatment. It reduces the amount of the initial proton exchange for the domain inversion and prevents the formation of crystal defects on the surface accompanied by the proton outdiffusion. Consequently, it minimizes the degradation of nonlinear coefficient and scattering loss caused by the initial proton exchange.

  • 광굴절 유기 고분자 재료는 1991년 IBM연구소에서 광굴절 효과를 나타내는 고분자 기억소자로의 기능성을 타진한 후에 광굴절 무기 결정에 비해 높은 회절효율의 가능성, 도핑의 용이성, 저렴한 생산비용, 다양한 응용성 등으로 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 본 실험에서는 광전도 고분자(Charge transporting molecule)인 SGC와 비선형 광학색소(NLO)인 SGM, Tg를 낮추기위한 가소제인 PEG, 전하 발생체(Photocharge generator, Sensitiser)로 이루어진 (SGC:SGM:PEG:TNF=30:60:9:1) 광굴절 고분자 복합재료의 특성을 분석하였다.   • In this paper, we propose a tunable drop/pass filter in the form of composed of Mach-Zehnder interferometer, to which a fiber grating and two PZTs are attached. The proposed drop/pass filter drops a part of signal power at a specific wavelength and pass the remnant of the signal to the next node in WDM network. Our simulation results show that the optical feedback is less than 2% and the drop to pass ratio can be made bigger than 10% if the phase difference between the two arms is within .+-.0.2.pi. from (2m+1).pi.. Also, the output powers at drop prot and pass port are measured to be maximum at the phase difference of .pi./2 and .pi., respectively, as expected.

  • 현대 시대에 광통신 시스템은 안정적이고 높은 단일 모드를 갖는 광원을 필요로 한다. 이 조건을 만족하는 λ/4 phase shifted DFB는 높은 단일모드 생성을 보였으나 high spatial hole burning문제점을 가지고 있다. λ/4 phase shift를 사용하지 않은 dual-pitch grating DFB가 소개되었지만 제작상의 어려움을 가지고 있다. 또 다른 구조인 selection-free tapered stripe DFB lasers가 제안되었는데 제작이 간단하면서도 높은 단일모드 생성을 보였다.   • Dynamic free-space optical interconnection system is experimented by a holographic crossbar with single-state switching architecture. For dynamic operation, electrically addressed liquid-crystal spatial light modulator and diffraction gratings are used in place of passive holograms of matrix-matrix crossbar. Diffraction gratings are consisted of regular cells which have different phase delays. This pixelated phase grating array displayed on SLM(Spatial Light modulator) deflects an input beam toward a wanted direction or splits an input beam into many beams and then steers them to desired positions. Through the experimental results, free-space optical interconnection is dynamically perfomed using a computer, SLM and phase diffraction gratings.

  • The characteristics of a ferroelectric-domain inverted grating fabricated by applying a high-voltage pulse at room temperature in Ti-diffused channel waveguides in z-cut $LiNbO_3$ (Ti:PPLN) were examined for channel waveguide quasi phase-matched secondharmonic generation devices. The fabrication conditions of uniform periodic domain-inversion were examined. Ti:PPLN with period ${\Lambda}=16.6{\mu}m$ for SHG were fabricated and the performances were measured. A normalized SHG efficiency as high as 473 (%/W) was obtained with 49 mm interaction length.

  • Moire topography method is a well-known non-contacting 3-D measurement method. the automatic 3-D measurement by moire topography has been required since the method was frequently applied to the engineering and medical fields. 3-D measurement using digital projection moire topography is very attractive because of its high measuring speed and high sensitivity. In this study, digital two-wavelength phase shilling moire is applied to the entertainment fields. recently. as promoting the growth of the VR-Game, display devices which attract public attention such as HMD or Projector are being appeared in order to deliver effectively the absorption sense. this study realized the Auto-calibrating system for arbitrary display surface using digital moire method which satisfied the shape measurement of display surface and the request of FOV(Field of View) output. also when large screen wasn't prepared, this auto-calibrating system was applied to enjoy games or movies at home with a projector and walls

  • We have carried out two-beam interference experiments to form holographic gratings on As$_{40}$ Se$_{15}$ S$_{35}$Ge$_{10}$ single layer, Ag/As$_{40}$ Se$_{15}$ S$_{35}$Ge$_{10}$ multi-layer. In this study, holographic gratings have been formed using He-Ne laser(632.8nm) under different polarization combinations(intensity polarization holography, phase polarization holography). The diffraction efficiency was obtained by the +lst order intensity. The maximum diffraction efficiency of As$_{40}$ Se$_{15}$ S$_{35}$Ge$_{10}$ single layer, As$_{40}$ Se$_{15}$ S$_{35}$Ge$_{10}$ and MgF$_2$/As$_{40}$ Se$_{15}$ S$_{35}$Ge$_{10}$ multi-layer were 0.8%, 1.4% and 3.1% under intensity polarization holography, respectively.

  • A wavelength-demodulation algorithm for FBG sensor is proposed by using a double-pass Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Zero-crossing points of double-passed interference signal are used to trigger the accurate $90^{\circ}C$ phase difference positions in the sensor signal, which is an essential condition in the subsequent arctangent and phase unwrapping signal processing. With the proposed method, we could efficiently measure various measurands, such as dynamic-, static-strain, and temperature, and ${\sim}8pm$ of wavelength resolution was obtained.
