$Bi_2O_3-CaO$계에서의 미세구조가 이온 전도도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Microstructure on the Ionic Conductivity in the $Bi_2O_3-CaO$ System)

  • The grain boundary effect on the ionic conductivity was investigated using a.c. admittance analysis in (Bi2O3)0.715(CaO)0.285 oxygen-ion conducting solid electrolyte. As a separated arc representing grain boundary polarization was not observed in the admittance plane, bulk conductivity was measrued for samples with various grain sizes in the temperature range from 48$0^{\circ}C$ to 72$0^{\circ}C$ and the conductivity distribution between grain interior and grain boundary was determined by the reported analytical methods. In the above temperature range, grain boundary worked as a high conductive path instead of blocking layer and ionic conduction through grain boundary was significant. The activation energy for conduction through grain and grain boundary was 78 and 106 kJ/mol, respectively.

  • 소성변형에 대한 저자들의 이론(제1보)을 요업재료, 금속, 합금 및 단결정들에 적용하였다. 그 결과 다중 결정에서는 dislocation 운동과 grain boundary 운동이 실험조건에 따라 함께 또는 분리되어 나타나는 반면 단결정에서는 dislocation 운동만 나타났다. 유동식에 나타나는 파라미터$({\alpha}_{d1},\;1/{\beta}_{d1})와\;({\alpha}_{gj}/X_{gj},\;1/{\beta}_{gj})$ (j = 1 or 2) 및 활성화엔탈피 ${\Delta}H_{k1}^{\neq}$ (k = d 혹은 g)를 구하여 예측한 소성변형은 실험과 잘 일치함을 보았다. 여기서 첨자 d1는 첫번째의 dislocation 유동단위, gj는 j번째 grain boundary 유동단위를 나타낸다. 활성화엔탈피에 대하여 ${\Delta}H_{d1}^{\neq}$는 bulk의 자체확산에 대한 활성화엔탈피와 일치하고 ${\Delta}H_{g1}^{\neq}$는 grain boundary 자체확산에 대한 활성화엔탈피와 일치하였다. 이 사실은 저자들의 이론의 정당성을 보이고 있다.

The Effects of Grain Boundary Structures on Mechanical Properties in Nanocrystalline Al Alloy

  • This study investigates the effects of grain boundary structures on mechanical properties of nanocrystalline Al-0.7Mg-1.0Cu alloy using nanoindentation system. Grain boundary structure transforms to high angle grain boundaries from low angle ones with increase of heat treatment temperature and the transformation temperature is about 400℃. Young's modulus and hardness are higher in sample with low angle grain boundaries, while creep length is larger in sample with high angle ones. These results indicate that progress of plastic deformation at room temperature is more difficult in sample with low angle ones. During compression test at 200℃, strain softening occurs in all samples. However, yield strength in sample with low angle grain boundaries is higher twice than that with high angle ones due to higher activation energy for grain boundary sliding.

  • TiN을 Cu의 확산방지막으로 사용하기 위해 많은 연구가 되어왔는데, 이 연구에서는 특히 X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)를 이용하여 TiN박막에서의 Cu의 확산현상을 연구하였다. TiN박막은 일반적으로 columnar grain을 형성하면서 성장을 하는데, 녹는점의 1/3에 해당하는 비교적 낮은 온도에서는 grain들의 경계를 따라 Cu가 확산함을 확인하였다. Atomic force microscopy(AFM)를 이용하여 grain의 모양을 관찰하였고, 이 grain boundary 를 통한 확산 현상을 연구하기 위하여, modified surface accumulation method를 이용하였 다. 연구 결과, TiN박막에서의 Cu의 grain boundary diffusion의 활성화 에너지 $Q_b$는 0.23 eV, Diffusivity $D_{bo}$$5.5\times10^{-12{\textrm{cm}^2$/sec의 값을 얻었다.

분위기와 첨가제가 TiO2 세라믹스의 입자성장에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Additives and Atmospheres on the Grain Growth of TiO2 Ceramics)

  • Effects of atmospheres and adidtives on the grain growth of TiO2 ceramics were investigated. In the range of 1300~140$0^{\circ}C$, grain growth was increased in CO2 as compared with O2 atmosphere and the grain boundary migration activation energy was lower than the diffusion activation energy of oxygen ion in TiO2. Also, in the case of addition of oxides, the grain growth was increased by oxides acting as a acceptor andinhibited by oxides acting as a donor. From the above results, when the oxygen vacancy concentration was increased, the intrinsic grain boundary mobility was increased and the pore drag force was decreased due to the rapid densification. Also it seems that the pore was migrated by the surface diffusion rather than lattice diffusion.

TiO$_2$첨가에 따른 ITO 세라믹스의 소결 거동 (Sintering Behaviors of ITO Ceramics with Additions of TiO$_2$)

  • Densification and grain growth behaviors of ITO ceramics were investigated as a function of TiO2 ad-ditions. TiO2 addition led to inhibition of the grain growth and promotion of the densification of ITO ceram-ics. From the microstructure observation it was found that the crack-like voids which were formed in pure ITO specimens decreased with increase of TiO2 additon. The grain growth exponent(n) was measur-ed to be 4 for pure ITO 3 for TiO2-doped ITO specimens respectively. It was supposed that the grain boun-dary migration of pure ITO ceramics was controlled by the pores which were moved by surface diffusion. On the contrary the grain boundary migration of TiO2-doped ITO specimens was depressed by solute drag effect. The activation energies for grain growth were measured to be 1013 kJ/mol for pure ITO ceramics and 460kJ/mol for TiO2-doped ITO specimens respectively.

$(Gd_2O_3)_{0.05}(Y_2O_3)_{0.05}(ZrO_2)_{0.9}$계의 소결시간에 따른 미세구조와 전기전도도 (The Effect of Sintering Time in the Microstructure and Electric Conductivity of $(Gd_2O_3)_{0.05}(Y_2O_3)_{0.05}(ZrO_2)_{0.9}$ System)

  • In this study, the microstructure and electric conductivity of 5mol% $Gd_2O_3$-5mol% $Y_2O_3-ZrO_2$ system(5G5YZ) with a variation of sintering time at $1600^{\circ}C$ were investigated. By the result of TEM analysis of 5G5YZ sintered for 12h, a microcrack was observed near grain boundary. The change of the sintering time did not affect the lattice conductivity, but the grain boundary contribution was varied with the sintering time. The grain boundary conductivity of the sample sintered for 1h showed the highest value. Furthermore, the activation energy of the total conductivity was independent upon the sintering time and showed approximately 1.01eV. The highest conductivity measured at $1000^{\circ}C$ was 0.0197S/cm with the sample sintered for 1h. Comparing to 0h’s, the thickness ration of grain boundary as a function of sintering time were 0.88, 1.11 and 1.29 for 1h, 5h and 12h, respectively. In case of the sample sintered for 1h, the thickness of the grain boundary showed the lowest value. The increase of the sintering time over 1h made the decrease of the electric conductivity as well as the increase of the grain growth and the thickness of the grain boundary. As a result, it seemed that the proper sintering time for 5G5YZ composition was 1h.

THE SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS OF NITROGEN ION IMPLANTED IRON ALUMINIDES

  • The surface characteristics of nitrogen ion implanted iron aluminides were investigated using various electrochemical methods in $H_2$$SO_4$+KSCN and HCl solutions. Nitrogen ion implantation was performed with doses of $3.0$\times$10^{17}$ /ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at an energy of 150keV. Nitrogen ion implanted iron aluminides increased the corrosion potential and significantly decreased grain boundary activation, the active current density, and passive current density. Nitrogen implanted iron aluminides with Mo increased the corrosion, pitting potential, repassivation potential and │$E_{pit}$-$E_{corr}$│ value. Whereas, implanted iron aluminides containing boron reduced the pitting and repassivation potential in comparison with nitrogen implanted iron aluminides with Cr and Mo.o.

Dielectric Properties of Orthorhombic Dysprosium Manganites

  • Orthorhombic dysprosium manganite DyMnO3 with single phase is synthesized using solid-state reaction technique and the crystal structure and dielectric properties as functions of temperature and frequency are investigated. Thermally activated dielectric relaxations are shown in the temperature dependence of the complex permittivity, and the respective peaks are found to be shifted to higher temperatures as the measuring frequency increases. In Arrhenius plots, activation energies of 0.32 and 0.24 eV for the high- and low-temperature relaxations are observed, respectively. Analysis of the relationship between the real and imaginary parts of the permittivity and the frequencies allows us to explain the dielectric behavior of DyMnO3 ceramics by the universal dielectric response model. A separation of the intrinsic grain and grain boundary properties is achieved using an equivalent circuit model. The dielectric responses of this circuit are discerned by impedance spectroscopy study. The determined grain and grain boundary effects in the orthorhombic DyMnO3 ceramics are responsible for the observed high- and low-temperature relaxations in the dielectric properties.

초소성변형의 분자론 (Molecular Theory of Superplastic Deformation)

  • 소성변형에 대한 著者들의 이론을 초소성합금(Zn-Al eutectoid, A1-Cu, Pb-Sn, Sn-Bi, Mg-Al eutectics)에 적용하였다. 그 결과 초소성합금의 소성변형은 두 개의 grain boundary流動單位의 平行連結로 나타낼 수 있었다. 이 두 개의 流動單位는 流動式에 나타나는 parameter $X_{gj}/{\alpha}_{gj}$${\beta}_{gj}$(j=1 혹온 2)로 表現할 수 있으며 이들을 實驗的으로 求할 수 있었다. 著者들의 流動式은 實驗과 잘 一致하였다. Strain rate sensitivity 對 -In(strain rate) 곡선을 이론으로 구한 결과 유동단위수만큼의 peak가 ${\beta}_{gj}$(j=1 or 2) 값에 따라 분리되어 나타났고 초소성의 조건도 ${beta}_{gj}$값에 의하여 결정됨을 알았다. ${\beta}_{gj}값의 粒子크기 依存性을 구하였고 온도변화에 따른 ${\beta}_{gj}$값 변화로부터 각 流動單位의 활성화엔탈피, ${\Delta}H_{gj}^{\neq}$도 구하였다. 그 결과 ${\Delta}H_{gj}^{\neq}$는 재료성분원소들의 grain boundary 자체확산에 의한 활성화엔탈피와 같이 나타났고 또 이들은 粒子 크기 증가에 마라 증가함을 보였다
