  • Background: Previous studies have suggested a link between obesity and breast cancer (BC). However, there is no universal consensus, especially in population based studies. Because only few studies have been conducted on African women, we aimed here to assess the relationship between BMI at time of diagnosis and the BC histopathological features among Tunisian patients according to menopausal status using a hospital-based prospective cohort study. Materials and Methods: Clinical and pathological data were collected from 262 patients stratified on four groups according to their BMI. The relationship between BMI and histopathological features at diagnosis was analysed using univariate and multivariate analysis. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to evaluate the performance of BMI in predicting of high tumor grade, in comparison to ki-67 index of proliferation. Results: Obesity was correlated with larger tumors, advanced grade and with ER-PR-Her2+ BC subtype. An association of BMI with tumor size and tumor grade was observed in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women. Additionally, a significant association between BMI and ER+, ER+PR+Her2+ and ER-PR-Her2+ status was revealed for premenopausal patients, while only ER+PR+Her2+ was associated with BMI for postmenopausal women. Finally, our results showed that compared to Ki67 proliferation index, BMI is a useful prognostic marker of high grade BC tumors. Conclusions: These data are the first to show that in Tunisia obese women suffering from BC have significantly larger tumors and advanced tumor grade and that higher BMI might influence tumor characteristics and behavior.

  • Teacher's competence in student assessment can be developed by the successive experiences that they choose assessment methods, develop assessment instrument, administer the assessment, score and grade students' responses, analyze, interpret, use, and communicate assessment results, and reflect the whole assessment processes. In this study I educated pre-service teachers in order for them to improve their assessment competence. Mathematics pre-service teachers practiced and reflected the assessment processes. In the aspects of reflections, I analyzed their journals about the knowledge of assessment, the dual situation as a student and a teacher, and their assessment practices. These areas are proved to interact each other, contribute pre-service teachers' assessment competence and construct the elements of assessment competence. And I identified the development of pre-service teachers' assessment competence quantitatively by the teacher's assessment competence test.

  • The optimal design was performed for the bridge superstructure composed of steel box girders and concrete deck considering life cycle cost. The service life of the superstructure was estimated, after load carry capacity curves for steel girder and concrete deck were derived on the basis of condition grade curves and maintenance histories. The object function was determined as life cycle cost, including initial cost, total maintenance cost, disposal cost and user cost, for a period of the estimated service life. The optimal design of the superstructure was performed for the various service lifes. The annual costs were used to compare calculated results and to get the most economical design. Also this paper presents reasonable idea for the use of user cost with uncertainty.

  • Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a rare subtype of malignant lymphoma (ML), accounting for only 1 to 2% of all non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Although ML of the parotid gland is rare, the majority are B-cell types. The AITL occurring synchronously in the parotid gland and lateral neck has not been reported earlier. It is classified as a high-grade malignancy with aggressive clinical features, and the prognosis is worse than any other type of NHL. We recently encountered a 72-year-old man with multiple mass on the ipsilateral parotid tail and lateral neck, and he was finally diagnosed as AITL. We report the unique and rare disease entity with a brief literature review.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify if there is difference in the attitude toward the elderly and the elderly patients among nursing students and nurses. Data were collected between August 1 and November 30, 2012 by using a structured questionnaire and the participants of this study were 423 nursing students in 6 universities and 244 nurses in 5 hospitals. The nursing students and nurses had more negative attitudes toward elderly patients than the elderly. There was difference in attitudes toward elderly patients according to grade, whether to take gerontological nursing course, the level of interest in the Aged, and whether to have experience in living with the old in the past among nursing students. There was difference in attitudes toward elderly patients according to the quality of volunteer service experience among nurses. In order to identify the attitudes accurately in nursing studies or education related to the elderly, the process to classify and define the objects of attitudes in details should be administered first.

  • Life cycle cost is one of important factors in the evaluation of economy feasibility. Load carrying capacity curves for girders and decks are derived on the basis of bridge diagnostic results and condition grade curves to determine the service life and life cycle profile. The total life cycle costs including initial cost, damage cost, maintenance cost, user cost, and etc for the service life are calculated for steel box girder, PSC-I girder and rationalized plate girder. The optimal designs are performed for various service lifes and different superstructure types. The effects of parameters on the life cycle cost are investigated and the economy feasibility is evaluated through the sensitivity analysis.

  • The Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi [Lamb.] Carriere) is a major timber species in Korea. However, studies on bucking rates and merchantable logs of this species are insufficient in South Korea. To bridge these gaps, in this study, the bucking rate of Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi [Lamb.] Carriere) was computed and the number of long logs and merchantable log volumes were analyzed. Sample trees were bucked according to the log grade for trading, and collected from a forest field in Gangwon Province. The bucking rate of all Japanese larch logs was >89%. The highly profitable 2-4 logs of 3.6 m length from trees with ≤30 cm diameter at breast height (DBH) and 5-6 logs with ≥34 cm DBH were produced. The bucking rate of long logs was >84%; thus, Japanese larch was found to be suitable for the supply of high-grade timber. Additionally, to follow reasonable wood supply plans, merchantable volume tables were offered based on 3.6 m-long number of logs and small-end diameter classes. Understanding the proportion of merchantable log volumes, bucking rates, and the number of long and short logs has large-scale applications in practical forestry.

  • This study was done to investigate satisfaction of fifth-grade(n=264) and sixth-grade(n=117) students from school foodservice in five elementary schools in Won-ju. On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being very poor and 5 being very good, overall satisfaction from school foodservice was found to be 3.21$\pm$0.98('so-so$\sim$satisfaction'). The highest satisfactory factor was neatness of foodservice staffs(3.79$\pm$1.00), while the lowest satisfactory factor was the students' overall opinions of school foodservice(3.03$\pm$1.06). The biggest unsatisfactory factor was found to be 'bland food'. 'Enhancement of taste'(49.08%) caused the most complaints against school foodservice. Soup was identified as the type of food most likely to be left over, and there was some significant difference between fifth-graders and sixth-graders. The reason cited most often for leftovers was unfavorable menus(33.42%). Students were more likely to try foods which were unfamiliar to them and also foods they previously disliked as a result of using school foodservice(28.87%). Also significant, when the meal director was present during the meal service, satisfaction was markedly higher than when the director was not present.
