  • Mathematics has developed dramatically in today's world and come to be increasingly put into practical use in various fields in society. However, many Japanese students dislike mathematics. We have to study mathematics education with this situation in our mind. When we consider a better educational material, we don't have to consider only within the framework of the current school mathematics. We can expect to find good mathematical materials in fields beyond the school mathematics. In this paper, we study how the inclusion of idea such as 'fuzzy theory' and 'graph theory' influences pupils' approaches to learning mathematics.

  • Canine Juvenile cellulitis was diagnosed in 2 puppies hospitalized in Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University. Characterized dermatological problems were presents of scale, crust, purulent exudation and alopecia limited on their face. On cytologic examinations of direct impression smears for the lesions, numerous neutrophils and macrophagies were observed. No bacteria and fungus were noted. Treatments with administration of predinisolone and antibiotics orally combined with topical shampoo treatment had good results for the two puppies.

  • Metabolic bone disease was diagnosed in 2 green iguanas hospitalized in Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University. Treatments were focused on initially correcting of husbandry with attention being paid to diet, increasing UV exposure time and increasing temperature of aquarium. Calcium complex was injected intramuscularly one time and administered calcium powder orally. Treatments responses were good with recovering body condition and increasing plasma Ca level.

  • One dimensional optimization problem is considered, we propose a method to find the global minimum of one-dimensional function with on gradient information but only the finite number of input-output samples. We construct a learning network which has a good learning capability and of which global maximum(or minimum) can be calculated with simple calculation. By teaching this network to approximate the given function with minimal samples, we can get the global minimum of the function. We verify this method using some typical esamples.

  • Production and perception of second language sounds are typically influenced by second language learners' native language sounds. In this study we investigate how the Korean language influences Korean speakers' production of English alphabets. In the experiment conducted to prepare for this study 16 native speakers of Korean pronounced English alphabets. Then three native speakers of English evaluated the Korean subjects' pronunciation of them. The results show that the Korean subjects' native language (i.e., Korean) influences their production of the English alphabets. When Korean has sounds corresponding to English alphabets, the English subjects rate the Korean subjects' production of them good. For instance, Korean has voiceless stop phonemes, hence their production of English alphabets was rated good by the English subjects. The Korean subjects' production of English alphabets containing the sounds that do not exist in Korean was rated poor by the English subjects. For instance, Korean does not have voiced fricative phonemes, hence their production of English alphabets was rated poor.

  • As an activity of one working group for the Good Practice program at Kumamoto University, we proposed a questionnaire survey on the degree in which students understand the uppermost points of importance in their classes in addition to the usual type of class questionnaire. Each class lists three uppermost points of importance which are essential for understanding the class content. The degree of understanding is classified into four levels: full, most, insufficient, and not at all understandings. Through the analysis of questionnaire replies, the degree of understanding for bachelor students in the Department of Engineering was discovered to be meaningfully affected by the degree of difficulty, the effectiveness of audiovisual aids, self-study time, and class attendance.

  • The purpose of this paper is to slove problems with English pronunciation education and to correct the misbelief that misbelief that English pronunciation can be thught effectiverly by native speakers or good speakers. Best sellers have many mistakes even in the description of sounds and most English education departments in national universities teach English phonetics theoretically only for 1 semester, More than 10 years' investigation into native speakers' and good speakers' teaching methods in various ways confirmed that they couldn't know English phonetics teachers should have a theoretical and practical knowledge of phonetics of English and students' dialects and the abilities to find the same or similar English sounds their students can make in normal or abnormal situations, to make both correct sounds and incorrect ones their students can make and to make them perceive the differences by using various ways.
