The maturity and spawning of the common octopus Octopus vulgaris were studied using 317 samples collected monthly from January to December of 2020 from the coastal waters of Yeosu, Korea. The mantle length (ML) of O. vulgaris ranged from 5.1 to 19.7 cm and body weight (BW) ranged from 117.6 to 3,645.4 g. We analyzed monthly changes in sex ratio, gonadosomatic index (GSI), histological maturity stage, and body weight at 50%, 75% and 97.5% group maturity. The sex ratio was 1:1.02, which was not significantly different from the value that expected. Based on histological observation of the gonad development and gonadosomatic index, the spawning periods lasted throughout the year, with peak spawning periods estimated from March to April and July to August. The percentages of sexually mature females estimated using a logistic equation were over 50% at 554.46 g BW, 75% at 1,134.38 g BW and 97.5% at 2,474.22 g BW respectively.
Outlines for plasma $estradiol-17\beta$, components, electrophoretic patterns, and ultrastructural changes were obtained in female rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) during the seasonal reproductive cycles. Plasma $estradiol-17\beta$ under the natural conditions, exhibited distinct seasonal variation, peaking very late in vitellogenic season during September, decreasing gradually the halt of spawning in December, and ultimately falling during the early stages of seasonal ovarian recrudescence in February and March. This change in $estradiol-17\beta$ appeared to stimulate vitellogenin production as evidenced by increases in plasma calcium, phosphorus, glucose, albumin and total protein levels. The electrophoretic patterns of late maturing or spawning oocytes were stained more intensively than those of late perinucleolus oocytes (molecular weights of approximately 70,000 and 200,000). Two protein bands were found in the SDS-PAGE separation, coincident with the $estradiol-17\beta$ hormone peak. Gonadosomatic indices (GSI) significantly increased from October to January, and showed the highest peak in January, coinciding with the numerically abrupt increase of ripe ova in female. A positive correlation (r=0.701, p<0.01) was established between plasma $estradiol-17\beta$ levels and the gonadosomatic index during the prespawning. The highest level of hepatosomatic index (HSI) observed in December. During the breeding season (December), the gonadotropes were large and filled with GTH-containing inclusions such as granules and globules. The vitellogenic phase began as late perinurleolus oocytes became transformed into early maturing oocytes through the accumulation of yolk, and oocytes reached the late maturing stages as the ooplasm was completely packed with yolk. Marked ultrastructural changed in the granulosa cells during nuclear migration involve the dilation of the rough endoplasmic reticulum and the appearance of the rod-shaped mitochondria with tubular cristae. Microvilli (finger-like projections), from the zona radiata and from the oocyte grew, and made contact with each other in the pore canals of the zona radials during vitellogenesis, but were withdrawn as the zona radiata became more compact and devoid of pore canals during oocyte maturation. The zona radiata grew to a tripartite structure such as an outer thin homogeneous layer, and two inner thick helicoidal layers (zona radials interna and zona radiata externa). Under the normal conditions, the ovarian follicle influenced the histological development and periodical secretion of the hormones , sufficient for a oogenesis and gonadal steroid production.

Reproduction and organ system of the oily bitterling, Acheilognathus koreensis in Isa stream were investigated by means of histological methods. Sex ratio was observed 1 : 1 in female to male. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) of the female showed two peak in December and April. The ovipositor length index (OLI) represented irregular change. From the histological analysis of the organ system, epidermal atrophy and hyperplasia of pigment cell were observed in the skin. Epithelial layer lifting of the lamella and bifurcation of the filament were observed in the gill. Also histological changes as congestion, cytoplasmic degeneration of hepatic cell, glomerular dilatation, hyaline droplet degeneration of renal tubule epithelium and pycnosis of interstitial cell were identified in the liver and kidney, respectively.
Reproductive biology and population dynamics of Luciogobius guttatus were investigated. Higher gonadosomatic index (GSI) was observed from March~May. The fecundity ranged form 241 eggs at 3.1~4.0 cm (SL) to 716 eggs at 5.1~5.7 cm (SL). The relationship between length (SL) and fecundity (F) was $F=11.242SL^{2.464}$ ($R^2=0.65$) and fecundity increased with length. We estimated the SL at 50% group maturity as 2.6 cm. The spawning period was March~May. The von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF) estimates were: $L_{\infty}=63.00mm$ TL; $K=0.85yr^{-1}$. The structure of recruitment pattern obtained by the FiSAT II program indicated one normally distributed group. The growth performance index (${\phi}$) was calculated with 3.53. Natural mortality rate (M) was $1.00yr^{-1}$.

We present age and growth data for Ilisha elongata, based on 363 specimens caught in 1999 and 2000 around Jeju Island and the southwest coast of Korea. Scale and ring radii of each ring group showed a direct one-to-one relationship, with ring radius increasing as scale radius increased. The relationship between fork length and scale radius was FL=39.553SR+60.935 for females, FL=39.474SR+54.026 for males, and FL=39.608SR+57.547 for both sexes. Monthly changes in the marginal index indicated that a new ring appears once each year (in July). Maximum age, mean age and mean fork length of fish were 10 years, 5.0 years, and 349mm, respectively. Von Bertalanffy's growth equations were $FL_t=495.4{\times}[1-\exp(-0.2586(t+0.6487))]$ for fork length (mm) and $W_t=1,112.5{\times}[1-\exp(-0.2586(t+0.6487))]^{2.874}$ for body weight (g) for both sexes. Monthly changes in the gonadosomatic index (GSI) indicated that the spawning period was in June and July, which corresponded closely with ring formation time. Differences in monthly GSI changes in 1999 and 2000 may be related to water temperature variation. Fecundity ranged from 5,664 to 176,290 eggs per individual (n=43, fork length 264-470mm). The relationship between fecundity(F) and fork length was $F=7.7{\times}10^{-7}{\times}FL^{4.9269}$.
The gonadosomatic index (GSI), fatness, ovarian development, first sexual maturity, and fecundity of the Korean anchovy Coilia nasus were investigated by histological observations and morphometric analysis from January to December, 2007. The GSI and fatness began to increase in February, and reached the maximum in June when the ovary was getting mature and spawning occurred. Thereafter these parametes rapidly decreased in July when spawning occurred. Therefore, monthly changes in the GSI and fatness were closely related to ovarian maturation and spawning. The duration of ovarian development in females can be classified into five successive stages: early growing stage (February to March), late growing stage (March to April), mature stage (May to June), ripe and spent stage (June to July), and recovery and resting stage (December to January). Maturation and spawning of this species occurred between June and July during the period of high seawater temperature-long day length. Percentages of first sexual maturity in female individuals were over 50% for fish ranging 24.1 to 27.0 cm in total length, and 100% for fish over 30.1 cm in total length. The number of total eggs and mature eggs in the absolute fecundity were increased with the increase of total length and body weight, respectively. The number of total eggs and mature eggs in relative fecundity were also proportional to total length, but rather these numbers decreased in the maximum body weight (126.0${\sim}$150.0 g).

The ovary of the spotted flounder Verasper variegatus is a conical bag in shape and is bilateral structure develops lengthily from the posterior of the abdomen to the end of the anal fin. The testis also is bilateral in structure, usually located in small size in the abdomen. In females, the gonadosomatic index (GSI) showed very low from March to July, and then began to increase from August, thereafter reached the maximum in January through out the year. In males, the GSI reached the maximum (1.7) in January through out the year, as seen in females. Compared with the male GSI in other fishes, the maximum GSI of this species were very lower than those of other fishes. According to the distributions of egg diameter in the spawning season, it is assumed that the spotted flounder spawn four times or more in the spawning season. The total length of female and male reached 50% first sexual maturity were 42.0~44.0 and 28.0~30.0cm, respectively and total length of female and male reached 100% maturity were 44.0 and 32.0cm, respectively. The reproductive cycle could be classified into four successive developmental stages: growing stage (August~October), mature stage (November~December), ripe and spent stage (December~February), degenerative and resting stage (March~July).
Gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor (GnRHR) gene is expressed at the anterior pituitary gland and plays a key role in gonad development. This study aimed to investigate molecular genetic characteristics of the GnRHR gene and elucidate the effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of GnRHR gene on sex steroid level in Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). We used polymerase chain reaction single-strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) and sequencing of the GnRHR gene in 75 individuals. We identified three SNPs in the GnRHR gene: P1 locus (C759A and C830T) in the coding region of exon2 which were both linked together and P2 locus (G984T) in the coding region of exon3, which added a new transcript factor (ADR1) and a new methylation site (CG). Only C830T of P1 leads to amino acid changes Thr266Ile. Statistical analysis showed that P1 was significantly associated with $17{\beta}$-estradiol ($E_2$) level (p<0.01) and gonadosomatic index (GSI) (p<0.05). Individuals with genotype BB of P1 had significantly higher serum $E_2$ levels (p<0.01) and GSI (p<0.05) than those of genotype AA or AB. Another SNP, P2, synonymous mutation, was significantly associated with GSI (p<0.05). Individuals with genotype AB of P2 had significantly higher GSI (p<0.05) than that of genotype AA. In addition, there was a significant association between one diplotype based on three SNPs and reproductive traits. The genetic effects for both serum $E_2$ level and GSI of diplotype D4 were super diplotypes (p<0.05). These results suggest that the SNPs in Japanese Flounder GnRHR are associated with $E_2$ level and GSI.

To investigate the role of temperatures and photoperiods as environmental cues regulating reproductive rhythm in Pseudobagrus fulvidraco, rearing experiments were conducted using sveral rearing regimes conbined with photoperiods and water temperatures during gonadal degeneration periods. Gonadosomatic index (GSI) in control was $8.16{\pm}1.50%$, while in other experiment GSI levels in female were lower than that in the control. In case of experimental precinct of 9 light (L) and 15 L, GSI levels were decreased. But GSI level with $20^{\circ}C$ was no diffrence after 40 and 60 days. GSI level in male of control was $0.35{\pm}0.05%$. GSI under 9 L and $25^{\circ}C$ was similar to that in control, whereas its level in other experiments was lower than that in control. Testosterone (T) of female was $3.68{\pm}0.22$ ng/mL at experimental precinct. In case of 9 L and 15 L, concentration of T were lower than experimental precinct in all of water temperature. Estradiol-$17{\beta}$ ($E_2$) and $7{\alpha}$, $20{\beta}$-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one ($17{\alpha}20{\beta}OHP$) levels of female were $0.42{\pm}0.02$ and $0.83{\pm}0.01$ ng/mL at experimental precinct. $E_2$ levels of 9 and 15 L were higher than experimental precinct and $17{\alpha}20{\beta}OHP$ levels of 9 and 15 L were higher than experimental precinct. In case of T and 11-ketotestosterone levels were $0.69{\pm}0.11$ and $.62{\pm}0.03$ ng/mL in male. During the period of gonadal degeneration, gonadal maturation did not occur in any of the experimental regimes. However, comparatively high levels of $E_2$ observed at low temperature regimes ($20^{\circ}C$) regardless of photoperiods.

In the present study, we investigated the effect of photoperiod and water temperature on the gonadosomatic index (GSI), histological stage of the testes, and plasma levels of sex steroid (testosterone, T; 11-ketotestosterone, 11-KT) hormones in cultured male small yellow croakers (Larimichthys polyactis). In a photoperiod experiment, small yellow croakers were reared under a natural photoperiod (NP, 10L:14D-11L:13D), long photoperiod (LP, 14L:10D), and short photoperiod (SP, 10L:14D) at 17℃ for 90 days. The GSI was significantly higher in the LP group than in the other groups at 30 and 60 days. The plasma 11-KT levels were significantly higher in the LP group than in the other groups at 30 days. In a water temperature experiment, small yellow croakers were reared under natural water temperature (NT, 19.1-15.0℃), or at 17℃, 21℃, or 25℃ under a LP (14L:10D) for 60 days. The GSI was significantly lower for the 25℃ group than for the other groups at 30 and 60 days. The plasma 11-KT levels were significantly lower for the 25℃ group than for the other groups at 60 days. Therefore, the sexual maturation of cultured male yellow croakers was promoted by LP and inhibited at water temperatures above 25℃. These findings suggest that the sexual maturation of cultured male small yellow croakers is controlled by both the photoperiod and the water temperature.
