  • For a development of U-safety system, liquid/gas-sensors that are easy to carry and install in any place are needed. Therefore, in this work, we prepared porous gold using a templating method with nanoporous alumina, and it was used as sensing materials and electrode. The resulting materials showed high purity macroporous structure with $200{\sim}300\;nm$ of window-pore and $4.8\;m^2/g$ of surface area. Because porous gold had good electric conductivity, convenience to measure the change of electric resistivity and good reproducibility, it could be used as potential sensing materials. As a proof-of-concept test, the detection test for mercury ion was carried out.

  • A Contact-type Linear Encoder-like Capacitive Displacement Sensor (CLECDiS) has been developed to measure displacements at high accuracy within a long measurement range. In this paper, we have worked on improving the performance and reliability of the sensor. The performance increase can be done by introducing the smaller electrode patterns of $4{\mu}m$ width. In order to improve the reliability of the sensor we have changed the electrode layers from chrome-gold to chrome-gold-chrome and re-design its supporting structure. The newly-designed sensor is fabricated and tested to show that its sensitivity is $35pF/{\mu}m$, which implies that its resolution may be 0.36nm if SNR (Signal-to-Noise-Ratio) is 80.1dB. It is about ten times of that $(3.14pF/{\mu}m)$ of its previous version with 10${\mu}m$ electrodes. The total measurement range remains the same as the previous one; 15mm. The calibration experiments show its improved performance and reliability.

  • Electron transfer of a redox protein at a bare gold electrode is too slow to observe the redox peaks. A novel Nafion-riboflavin functional membrane was constructed during this study and electron transfer of cytochrome c, superoxide dismutase, and hemoglobin were carried out on the functional membrane-modified gold electrode with good stability and repeatability. The immobilized protein-modified electrodes showed quasireversible electrochemical redox behaviors with formal potentials of 0.150, 0.175, and 0.202 V versus Ag/AgCl for the cytochrome c, superoxide dismutase and hemoglobin, respectively. Whole experiment was carried out in the 50 mM MOPS buffer solution with pH 6.0 at 25 oC. For the immobilized protein, the cathodic transfer coefficients were 0.67, 0.68 and 0.67 and electron transfer-rate constants were evaluated to be 2.25, 2.23 and 2.5 s?1, respectively. Hydrogen peroxide concentration was measured by the peroxidase activity of hemoglobin and our experiment revealed that the enzyme was fully functional while immobilized on the Nafion-riboflavin membrane.

  • Zinc tin oxide transparent thin film transistors (ZTO TTFTs) were fabricated by using $n^+$ Si wafers as gate electrodes. Indium (In), aluminum (Al), indium tin oxide (ITO), silver (Ag), and gold (Au) were employed for source and drain electrodes, and the mobility and the threshold voltage of ZTO TTFTs were observed as a function of electrode. The ZTO TTFTs adopting In as electrodes showed the highest mobility and the lowest threshold voltage. It was shown that Ag and Au are not suitable for the electrodes of ZTO TTFTs. As the results of this study, it is considered that the interface properties of electrode/ZTO are more influential in the properties of ZTO TTFTs than the conductivity of electrode.

  • In this paper, we fabricated a biosensor for detecting hydrogen peroxide and investigated the sensing property. We prepared a viologen and hemoglobin modified gold electrode using self-assembly and layer by layer method. The electrochemical property of the viologen derivative was characterized in 0.1 M $NaClO_4$ electrolyte solution by cyclic voltammetry. The modified electrode showed reversible electrochemical properties and high stability. From the results, the viologen can act as a charge transfer mediator for access to the electrode surface. The catalytic characteristics of the designed sensor proved that hemoglobin has been kept in its natural structure and can retain its biological activity. The designed biosensor showed a fast amperometric response, excellent linearity and low detection limit. In addition, it had high sensitivity, good reproducibility and stability.

  • A method is described for the design and fabrication of the sensor interface circuits on the Clark electrodes for the dissolved oxygen(DO). The discussion includes a method for the +5 V single-supply driving for the sensor circuits, which has low power comsumption for the front-end electronics. DO probe under test is composed of the Clark electrode with silver anode, gold cathode and the electrolyte of half saturated KCI solution and the FEP teflon memtrance for the oxygen penetration. Typical polarograms for the DO probes by using this sensor circuit reveals high accuracy over 99% of the I to V conversion. Partial pressure of oxygen obtained from the polarograms are well suited to the results calculated. It is expected that the proposed sensor circuits can be utilized into the customized IC for the battery-driven small-size DO meters.

  • This paper presents ion-based micro vibration sensor for the ultra-high frequency vibration detection. Presented sensor uses the motion of anion and cation in an electrolyte. Electrolyte vibration sensors have the high shock survival characteristics and a simple read-out circuit because of the small mass and own charges of ions. Presented sensor measures the induced electric potential by the mechanical-electrical coupling. It consist of electrolyte chamber and detection electrode. Electrolyte chamber was fabricated by PDMS molding. Detection electrode was made of gold evaporation on pyrex glass. Size of electrolyte chamber was designed as $600{\times}600{\times}100um$. Detection electrode had 200nm-thick and 42um-gap. In the experimental study, 5.8M sodium Chloride (NaCl) solution was used as electrolyte in 36nl-chamber. Mechanical vibration was measured from 2kHz to 4MHz.

  • Incorporation of metalloporphyrins into polypyrrole (PPy) film was achieved either by electropolymerization of pyrrole in the presence of metal-tetra(sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin anion (MTSPP, M=Co, Fe) or by metalizing hydrogenated tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin anion (H2TSPP) doped into PPy through ion-exchange. Electrochemical reduction of oxygen on the PPy doped with metallo porphyrin (PPy-MTSPP) was studied in acidic and basic solutions. Oxygen reduction on PPy-MTSPP electrodes appeared to proceed through a 4-electron pathway as well as a 2-electron path. In acidic solutions, the overpotential for O2 reduction on PPy-CoTSPP electrode was smaller than that on gold by about 0.2 V. In basic solutions the overpotential of the PPy-CoTSPP electrode in the activation range was close to those of Au and Pt. The limiting current was close to that of Au. However, polypyrrole doped with cobalt-tetra(sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin anion (PPy-CoTSPP) or with iron-tetra(sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin anion (PPy-FeTSPP) was found to have limited potential windows at high temperatures (above 50 ℃), and hence the electrode could not be held at the oxygen reduction potentials in basic solutions (pH 13) without degradation of the polymer.

  • Increasing the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere induce high temperature and rising sea levels. So the technology that capture and reuse of the CO2 have been recently become popular. Among other methods, CRR(CO22 reduction reaction) is typical method of CO2 reusing. Electrocatalyst can show more higher efficiencies in CRR than photocatalyst because it doesn't use nature source. Nowadays, finding high efficient electrocatalyst by controlling electronic (affected by stoichiometry) and geometric (affected by atomic arrangement) factors are very important issues. Mono-atomic electro-catalyst has limitations on controlling binding energy because each intermediate has own binding energy range. So the Multi-metallic electro-catalyst is important to stabilize intermediate at the same time. Carbon monoxide(CO) which is our target product and important feedstock of useful products. Au is known for the most high CO production metal. With copper, Not only gold/copper has advantages which is they have FCC packing for easily forming solid solution regardless of stoichiometry but also presence of adsorbed CO on Cu promotes the desorption of CO on Au because of strong repulsion. And gold/copper bi-metal catalyst can show high catalytic activity(mass activity) although it has low selectivity relatively Gold. Actually, multi-metallic catalyst structure control method is limited in the solution method which is takes a lot of time. In here, we introduce CTS(carbo thermal shock) method which is using heat to make MMNP in a few seconds for making gold-copper system. This method is very simple and efficient in terms of time(very short reaction time and using carbon substrate as a direct working electrode) and increasing reaction sites(highly dispersed and mixing alloy structures). Last one is easy to control degree of mixing and it can induce 5 or more metals in one alloy system. Gold/copper by CTS can show higher catalytic activity depending on metal ratio which is altered easily by changing simple variables. The ultimate goals are making CO2 test system by CTS which can check the selectivity depending on metal types in a very short time.

  • Silicon is one of useful materials in various industry such as semiconductor, solar cell, and secondary battery. The metallic silicon produces generally melting process for ingot type or chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for thin film type. However, these methods have disadvantages of high cost, complicated process, and consumption of much energy. Electrodeposition has been known as a powerful synthesis method for obtaining metallic species by relatively simple operation with current and voltage control. Unfortunately, the electrodeposition of the silicon is impossible in aqueous electrolyte solution due to its low oxidation-reduction equilibrium potential. Ionic liquids are simply defined as ionic melts with a melting point below $100^{\circ}C$. Characteristics of the ionic liquids are high ionic conductivities, low vapour pressures, chemical stability, and wide electrochemical windows. The ionic liquids enable the electrochemically active elements, such as silicon, titanium, and aluminum, to be reduced to their metallic states without vigorous hydrogen gas evolution. In this study, the electrodeposion of silicon has been investigated in ionic liquid of 1-butyl-3-methylpyrolidinium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide ([bmpy]$Tf_2N$) saturated with $SiCl_4$ at room temperature. Also, the effect of electrode materials on the electrodeposition and morphological characteristics of the silicon electrodeposited were analyzed The silicon electrodeposited on gold substrate was composed of the metallic Si with single crystalline size between 100~200nm. The silicon content by XPS analysis was detected in 31.3 wt% and the others were oxygen, gold, and carbon. The oxygen was detected much in edge area of th electrode due to $SiO_2$ from a partial oxidation of the metallic Si.
