Connecting Value and Costs

  • AS A SOCIETY, we are in conflict with ourselves about the cost of health care. 1 On one hand, we want the best care possible, regardless of cost. On the other hand, we are not willing to pay the cost of the care we want. Our conflict parallels a flaw in the medical marketplace. An essential condition for achieving an equilibrium between cost and value is that the two must be connected through decisions. When people decide what products and services (goods) they want, they must not only see the value they will receive, but they mast also be responsible for the costs. Because of a variety of features of the medical marketplace-most notably third-party coverage, third-party advice, and uncertainty about outcomes-the required connection between value and cost is severed. The result is what we see. One side of our collective mind demands more services while the other side cries that costs are too high. Resolving our conflict will require connecting value to cost. An essential step in accomplishing this will be to incorporate costs in practice policies. 1 As controversial as that thought might seem (the great majority of practice policies currently do not take costs into account except in the most rudimentary way), arriving at the conclusion is the easy part. A more difficult issue is how to implement the goal of connecting value to cost. Suppose we agree that, in principle, costs should be considered when practice policies are designed, and that an activity should be recommended and covered only if its health outcomes (benefits minus hanns) are deemed to be worth its costs. The next questions are, Who should do the deeming? What should the deemers be asked?

갈등관리전략과 커뮤니케이션 능력이 상호관계에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Conflict Management Strategies and Communication Competence on Relational Outcomes)

  • 본 연구는 갈등이 커뮤니케이션을 통해 표현되고 인식되고 관리된다는 측면에서 생산적이고 긍정적인 갈등 결과를 가져오는 핵심적인 요소로 커뮤니케이션 능력을 상정하고 있다. 이러한 인식하에 본 연구는 대인적 갈등상황에서 갈등관리전략은 커뮤니케이션 능력과 어떠한 관계가 있고, 커뮤니케이션 능력은 갈등관리전략과 갈등 후의 상호관계에 어떻게 작용하는가를 밝히는데 목적을 두었다. 분석결과 첫째, 통합전략은 커뮤니케이션 능력과 정적인 상관관계를 보였고, 회피전략과 분할전략은 부적인 상관관계를 나타냈다. 이것은 통합전략을 사용한 사람들은 상대방으로부터 커뮤니케이션 능력이 있는 것으로 평가받는 반면 분할전략과 회피전략을 사용한 사람은 상대적으로 능력이 없는 것으로 지각된다는 것을 의미한다. 둘째, 커뮤니케이션 능력은 갈등 후의 상호관계, 즉 친밀감, 신뢰감, 관계만족도와 긍정적인 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이것은 상대방을 커뮤니케이션 능력이 있는 것으로 평가한 사림들은 대체로 갈등 후에 상대한 친밀감이나 신뢰감을 더 느끼게 되고 결과적으로 상호관계에도 만족한다는 것을 의미한다. 셋째, 커뮤니케이션 능력은 갈등관리전략과 갈등 후의 상호관계를 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 이것은 갈등 후의 상호관계는 자기가 어떻게 갈등관리전략을 구사했는가라는 평가에 직접적으로 영향을 받기보다는 상대방이 자신의 커뮤니케이션 능력을 어떻게 지각했느냐에 따라 달라진다는 것을 의미한다. 결과적으로 대인적 갈등상황에서 만족스럽고 생산적인 결과를 얻기 위해서는 커뮤니케이션 능력이 무엇보다도 중요하다는 것이 이 연구를 통해 밝혀졌다.

한국과 미국에서 발행된 집단수준 중심의 조직행동론 교과서에 대한 사례연구 (A case study on group level based-organizational behavior textbooks published in Korea and USA)

  • I have done a case study on group level based-organizational behavior textbooks published in Korea and USA. The objects are 'organizational behavior' by Su Yong Jung and 'organizational behavior' by Im Chang Hee in Korea, and 'organizational behavior' by Schermerhorn, Osborn, Uhl-Bien, & Hunt and 'organizational behavior' by Robbins, & Judge. The goal of this study is to identify the differences of the perspectives on the group level based-organizational behavior between Korean and American textbooks. This research finding shows that it is valid to classify organizational behavior into such categories as group & team, communication, decision making, leadership, power, and conflict & negotiation in the Korean textbooks for the better future study.

A Multi-stage Multi-criteria Transshipment Model for Optimal Selection of Transshipment Nodes - Case of Train Ferry-

  • A strategic decision making on location selection for product transportation includes many tangible and untangible factors. To choose the best locations is a difficult job in the sense that objectives usually conflict with each other. In this paper, we consider a multi stage multi criteria transshipment problem with different types of items to be transported from the sources to the destination points. For the optimization of the problem, a goal programming formulation will be presented in which the location selection for each product type will be determined under the multi objective criteria. In the study, we generalize the transshipment model with a variety of product types and finite number of different intermediate nodes between origins and destinations. For the selection of the criteria we selected the costs(fixed cost and transportation cost), location numbers, and unsatisfied demand for each type of products in multi stage transportation, which are the main goals in transshipment modelling problems. The related conditions are also modelled through linear formats.

  • In most Multi-Agent Systems (MAS), agents are required to achieve their own goals. An agent's goals, however, can conflict with others either when agents compete with earth other to achieve a common goal or when they have to use a set of limited resources to accomplish agents'divergent goals. In this paper, we consider that a BDI architecture, as a shorthand fur belief, desire, and intention in any agent-based systems, is a core component of agents' mental attitudes and represent resource-bounded BDI agents in logic programming framework. We propose an algorithm in which BDI agents with different goals solve their problems through negotiation resolving goal conflicts.

  • The performance of conventional robot arms is inhibited by trade-off between speed and accuracy. Because these systems measure only joint angles, in spite of slow speed, they must rely on a stiff structure in order to attain positioning accuracy. Lightweight links would allow faster motion, but their flexibility would also produce positioning errors. This research is involved with the development and evaluation of an End-point Control System whose major goal is to compensate for link deflections and thus mitigate the speed versus accuracy conflict in conventional manipulator.

  • 이종의 분산환경에서 다양한 보안시스템에 대한 효율적인 보안 관리를 위해서 관리자는 보안 시스템들이 설치된 네트워크 환경에 대한 사전에 전문적인 보안 지식을 갖고 있어야하며, 개방형 네트워크 환경의 경우 새로운 보안시스템이 추가되면 새로운 보안 정책과 기술을 적용해야 한다. 이는 전산망 운영 기관의 보안 관리 비용을 가중시키며 체계적이고 일괄적인 보안 정책 및 기술 구현을 불가능하게 하여 오히려 보안 문제를 야기시키는 역기능을 초래할 수 있다. 그리고, 보안 제품의 개발과 공급이 다수의 공급자에 의해서 공급되므로 서로 상이한 특성을 갖는 보안 시스템들로 구성된 보안 관리 구조의 효율적인 운용과 유지에 상당한 어려움이 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 이종의 보안시스템을 관리하는 통합보안시스템의 보안정책을 Z-Notation을 통해서 정의하고 통합관리에서 발생되는 정책 충돌 문제를 대표적인 보안시스템인 침입차단시스템(Firewall : 방화벽)을 대상으로 모델링하고 이를 해결하는 알고리즘을 제시하고자 한다.

의료기관 QI 담당자의 목표추구몰입에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Goal-Orientation of QI Performers in the Medical Centers)

  • The purpose of this research is to provide the data base for the activation of Quality Improvement operation through investigating the status of Quality Improvement operation, and finding out factors influencing on the goal-orientation of QI performers in the medical centers of more than one hundred beds where are practicing Quality Improvement operation. In order to reach the purpose, document study was carried out grounded on the proceeding researches and formulated statistical data in relation with the status of Quality Improvement performers, and proof study was carried out through questionnaire survey. The subjects of the survey were the Quality Improvement performers working in seventy three medical centers in Pusan-Gyeongnam, Daegu-Gyeongbuk, and Ulsan. Among eighty three Quality Improvement performers, fifty, five were questionnaire surveyed, on the result of which Reliability Analysis, Factor Analysis, and Multiple Regression Analysis were made, using statistical program. The the results of the proof analysis on this research are as follows. First, in the factors influencing the devoting to goal pursuit of QI performers, organization-goal contribution(0.44) had significant positive effects, while organization conflict(-0.25) had significant negative effects. In other words, the higher the organization-goal contribution was, the higher the devoting to goal pursuit was, while the less the organization conflict was, the higher the devoting to goal pursuit was, which was statistically significant.(p<0.05). Second, in the aspect of goal performance types of QI performers, the process-centered type showed high level of the devoting to goal pursuit, which was statistically significant.(p<0.05). Third, in the aspect of QI performance degree, the higher the devoting to goal pursuit was, the higher the QI performance degree was, which was statistically significant.(p<0.05). In addition, the performers who perceived their workplaces organic structure showed much higher QI performance degree, which statistically significant.(p<0.05). Generalizing the results of this research, it is possible to offer a few suggestions as follows. First, as the competition among the medical centers is more severe recently owing to medical center evaluation system, medical centers are practicing various Quality Improvement operation in all of medical services such as clinical performance and management performance, to reach the purpose of both cost-cutting and medical quality improvement. Thus in order to practice Quality Improvement operation more efficiently in medical centers, it is essential to nuke use of problem-solving methods and statistical members. This as the willingness of chief executives and positive attitude and recognition of organization members. This requires the installation of divisions in charge and disposition of persons in charge, not to speak of persistent training of Quality Improvement. Second, the divisions in charge of QI carry out Quality Improvement operation at the medical center level, and take the role of generalizing and adjusting QI performances of various departments. Owing to this role, the division in charge of QI is considered indispensable organization in the QI operation of medical centers along with medical QI committee, while it contributes to the government's goal of reducing quality level gaps among medical centers. Therefore it is necessary for government and QI organizations to give institutional support and resources for the sake of QI operation of medical centers, besides to supply systematic trainning and informations to the divisions and persons in charge of QI. Third, it is certain that disposition of persons in charge should be determined in view of the scale and the scope of QI operation in medical centers.

중국 가전유통경로에서 한국제품 현지 판매업체와 도매업체간 갈등 및 영향전략이 성과에 미치는 영향: 관계 질의 조절효과 (The Impact of Conflict and Influence Strategies Between Local Korean-Products-Selling Retailers and Wholesalers on Performance in Chinese Electronics Distribution Channels: On Moderating Effects of Relational Quality)

  • 본 논문의 주된 연구목적은 중국 가전유통시장에서 한국제품을 판매하는 현지 소매업체와 도매업체간의 갈등, 의존, 영향전략 및 성과간의 관계를 분석하고, 특히 '��시'(關係, guanxi)의 조절효과를 분석함으로써 중국에 진출하는 한국 가전기업들에게 효율적인 유통경로 관리방안을 제시하고자 하는 것이다. 제안한 연구모형과 가설들을 검증하기 위하여 중국 후베이성(湖北省), 후난성(湖南省), 쟝시성(江西省), 허난성(河南省) 등의 중남(中南)지역에서 한국 가전제품을 판매하는 소매상을 직접 방문하여 최종 97개의 판매업체 자료를 수집하였다. 구조방정식 모형과 조절 회귀분석을 통해 알아낸 분석 결과를 연구주제별로 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국제품 현지판매업체가 지각하는 도매상과의 목표불일치는 기대대로 소매상의 갈등을 유의하게 높이었으나, 역할모호성은 갈등에 유의한 영향을 주지 못하였다. 둘째, 갈등나선형 이론과 일치하게 현지판매업체가 도매업체에 대해 의존성이 증대될수록 현지판매업체가 지각하는 갈등은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 도매업체가 시행하는 정보교환, 권고 등의 비강압적 영향전략은 갈등을 조장하지 않으면서, 현지판매업체들의 거래만족 및 재무성과를 제고하는데 일익을 담당하였다. 반면에 도매업체가 사용하는 위협, 법적 호소 등의 강압적 영향전략은 갈등을 심각하게 높이면서도 성과에는 도움이 되지 못하였다. 넷째, 중국 가전산업의 도매상과 소매상간에 형성된 '��시'(關係, guanxi) 즉 관계의 질의 조절효과를 분석해보면, 먼저 상호신뢰, 몰입 등의 관계의 질은 비강압적 영향전략이 성과에 미치는 영향에 조절변수 역할을 하지 못해, 비강압적 영향전략과 관계 질은 서로 영향을 받지 않고 독립적으로 성과를 높이는데 사용될 수 있는 전략임을 알 수 있다. 반면에 관계의 질은 강압적 영향전략이 성과에 미치는 영향에 조절변수 역할을 하였다. 즉 관계의 질이 잘 형성되어 있다면 적대적 특성을 가진 강압적 영향전략이 사용되더라도 관계 질의 순기능 역할로 관계 질이 낮은 경우보다 소매상이 지각하는 성과를 높이는 것을 알 수 있다. 다섯째, 갈등의 경우도 관계의 질은 갈등이 성과에 미치는 영향에 조절변수 역할을 하였다. 관계의 질이 높게 형성되어 있다면, 갈등이 높은 상황이 발생하더라도 역기능은 줄어들어, 거래관계의 질이 높은 소매상은 갈등을 보다 긍정적으로 받아들여 시너지 효과를 창출함으로써 관계의 질이 낮은 소매상보다 성과를 높일 수 있음을 알 수 있다. 결론적으로, 중국 가전산업에서 거래 관계 질이 높게 형성되어 있다면 강압적 영향전략과 갈등이 성과에 미치는 역기능을 상쇄할 수 있어 상거래에서 '��시'(關係, guanxi)를 통한 거래관계의 질이 중요함을 확인하였다.

프랜차이즈 본사의 협동지향성과 관계파워가 갈등해결전략과 신뢰 그리고 관계성과에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Cooperative Orientation and Relationship Power on Conflict Resolution Strategy and Relationship Performance)

  • Purpose - In recent years, research has been conducted on the conflict resolution strategies of the franchise headquarters and the franchisees, but there is a lack of research on how the power structure and cultural factors play a role in resolving conflicts. From this perspective, this study is to examine the structural relationship between franchisors' cultural orientation and relationship power, and conflict resolution strategies, relationship trust, and relationship performance using. The findings of this study suggest how franchise headquarters should establish long-term relationship with franchisees and share information. Research design, data, methodology - The data were collected from April 1 to April 15, 2013. Because this study examined franchise industries from the franchisee perspective, we contacted franchisee store owner and managers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Interviewers trained contacted a total of 200 franchisees, and 196 franchisees responded. Out of 196 respondents, 13 respondents were deleted due to missing information. Thus, a total of 183 franchisee were used for this study. he data were analyzed using frequency analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equational modeling with SPSS 24.0 and Amos 23.0 statistical program. Results - The results showed that cooperation orientation and relational power of franchisor had significant effects on conflict resolution strategies. Cooperating, obliging, and compromising strategies of conflict resolution strategy had significant effects on relationship trust. Also, relationship trust had significant effect on relationship performance. Conclusions - This study shows that the franchise headquarters and the franchisees share necessary information for common purposes and that continuous two-way communications play an important role in resolving conflicts. In other words, the result of this study suggests that if the franchise headquarters and the franchisee actively consider the position of the other party and strive to achieve the goal, conflict resolution may be more successful. In order to do this, the franchise headquarters will have to consider how to build and maintain continuous communication with the franchisees, and continuous education is also needed so that employees can have a cooperative attitude. However, since the culture of these organizations is not made up of simple staff training and is not formed within a short time, the CEO of the franchisee headquarters should take the lead in establishing a cooperative culture with the merchants over the long term.
