Enhancement of Foliar Uptake and Leaf Deposit of Thifluzamide Formulation and Fungicidal Activity Against Rice Sheath Blight (Thifluzamide 제제의 경엽 침투성과 부착량 증진이 벼 잎집무늬마름병 방제 효과에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to enhance the fungicidal activity of the thifluzamide formulation against rice sheath blight, the surfactants which was able to facilitate the foliar uptake or increase the leaf deposit of thifluzamide on rice plants were selected, and the formulations containing the surfactants were tested to compare the fungicidal efficacy against the rice sheath blight with a control WP formulation. The WP suspension containing dodecaethylene glycol monohexadecyl ether as an activator increased the foliar uptake of thifluzamide on rice plants, but its fungicidal efficacy against rice sheath blight was decreased. The addition of the combined surfactants with either heptaethylene glycol monoisododecy ether or heptaethylene glycol monotridecyl ether and sodium dioctylsulfosuccinate to WP suspension increased the leaf deposition of thif1uzamide at around 5 times of that without a spreader-sticker that median control concentrations of thifluzamide against rice sheath blight were decreased to 4.4 mg $L^{-1}$ and 3.4 mg $L^{-1}$, respectively.

Syntheses and Potentiometric Properties of Polyethers Containing Thiazole and Oxazole Derivatives

  • A series of polyethers containing the thiazole or oxazole subcyclic moiety have been synthesized. Reaction of 2-aryl-4-hydroxymethylthiazole with tetra- and pentaethylene glycol di-p-tosylate in THF provided corresponding α,ω-bis[2'-aryl-4'-methylthiazole]polyethylene glycol in good yields. Similar treatment of 2-phenyl-4-hydroxymethyloxazole 7 and 2-phenyl-5-hydroxymethyloxazole 8 with tetraethylene glycol di-p-tosylate yielded the corresponding 1,13-bis [2'-phenyl-4'-methyloxazole]tetraethylene glycol 16 and 1,13-bis[2'-phenyl-5'-methyloxazole]tetraethylene glycol 17 in 69 and 43% yields in respectively. The potentiometric properties of PVC-based ion selective membranes containing 66 wt% o-nitrophenyloctyl ether (NPOE) and 4 wt% polyethers 9-17 have been examined. The membranes containing thiazole and oxazole polyether derivatives exhibited high selectivity toward silver (I) ion. It was observed that the response slopes of the electrodes to silver ion vary with the length of polyether chain linking two thiazole subcyclic moiety. Potentiometric data suggest that the number of ether units, CH2OCH2, for phenylthiazole derivatives be greater than 5 to result in near-Nernstian response. However, the response behaviors of the membrane electrodes based on phenyloxazole podands 16 and 17, which have different orientation, were correspondingly similar to those of the electrodes based on phenylthiazole podands 9 and 10. On the other hand, the ISEs based on thiazole polyether derivatives with different terminal substituents, e.g., phenyl 10, naphtyl 14, and thienyl 15, except that with pyridyl 12, exhibited little difference in their potentiometric properties.

  • A reaction device raising a generation yield by efficiently removing water generated in an esterified reaction between diethylene glycol monoethyl ether and succinic acid with mixture of an azeotropic point was newly developed as a new product in development of more stabilized emulsifier with a semi-solid phase(cream) in an emulsified phase of interfacial activity. The bis-(diethylene glycol monoethyl ether succinate(hereinafter, called as BDGS) with a high yield of more than 95% was obtained. As this has a property containing amphoteric emulsified functions such as W/O type or O/W type, etc., and has a merit that can be used regardless of any emulsified phase, there is no need using other emulsified surfactant. therefore, as this has excellent skin wetability in the cosmetics industry, a product having a wider range in quality compatibility or cost saving, etc. as a humectant has been developed.

  • This paper investigates the effect of oxygen composition in mixed fuel on the exhaust emissions for the direct injection diesel engine. These effects were tested to estimate the change in engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics when commercial diesel fuel and oxygenates blended fuels at a certain fuel and mixed ratio are used. Individual hydrocarbons $(C_1-C_6)$ in exhaust gases, as well as the total amount of hydrocarbons, were analyzed by using gas chromatography to find the mechanism by which smoke emission was remarkably reduced for various oxygenated fuels. The chromatograms between a diesel fuel and a diesel fuel blended DGM (diethylene glycol dimethyl ether), MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether) and EGBE (ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether) were compared. The results showed that the number of individual hydrocarbons as well as the total number of hydrocarbons of oxygenated fuel reduced more remarkably than those of diesel fuel.

  • In this paper, the effects of oxygen component in blended fuel on the exhaust emissions have been investigated far direct injection diesel engine. It was tested to estimate change of engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics for th? commercial diesel fuel and oxygenated blended fuels which have three kinds of fuels and various mixed rates. And, it was tried to analyze not only total hydrocarbon but individual hydrocarbons(C$_1$∼ C$\_$6/) in exhaust gases using gas chromatography to seek the reason far remarkable reduction of smoke emission on various oxygenated fuels. This study carried out by comparing the chromatogram with diesel fuel and diesel fuel blended DGM(diethylene glycol dimethyl ether), MTBE(methyl tart-butyl ether) and EGBE(ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether). The results of this study show that individual hydrocarbons as well as total hydrocarbon of oxygenated fuel are reduced remarkably compared with commercial diesel fuel.

  • In this paper, the effect of oxygen component in fuel on the exhaust emissions has been investigated fur direct injection diesel engine. It was tested to estimate change of engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics for the commercial diesel fuel and oxygenated blended fuel which has seven kinds of mixed ratio. And, the effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of NOx emission have been investigated. Ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether(EGBE) contains oxygen component 27% in itself, and it is a kind of effective oxygenated fuel of mono-ether group that the smoke emission and unburned hydrocarbons of EGBE is reduced remarkably compared with commercial diesel fuel, that is, it can supply oxygen component sufficiently at higher loads and speeds in diesel engine. It was found that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx was achieved with oxygenated fuel and cooled EGR method.

Fungicidal Activity Enhancement of KNF-1002 Against Barley Powdery Mildew by Facilitating Foliar Uptake and Deposition (KNF-1002의 경엽 침투성과 부착량 증진에 의한 보리 흰가루병 방제 효과)

  • KNF-1002, a new fungicide candidate, is very effective for protecting crops against plant diseases, but its curative activity against barley powdery mildew is negligible due to its weak penetrability into plant leaf. To select the most efficient activator and, at the same time, spreade-sticker, foliar uptake and deposit of aqueous spray formulations containing non-ionic or anionic surfactants and fatty acid alkyl esters as an adjuvant were assessed by using Congo Red method. In the absence of activator, only 0.1% of the applied active ingredient was absorbed by barley leaves 24 h after spraying with an aqueous acetone containing KNF-1002 100 mg/L. But, non-ionic surfactants (500 mg/L), such as heptaethylene glycol monooctadecenyl ether (OE-7), dodecaethylene glycol monohexadecyl ether (CE-12), so facilitated KNF-1002 uptake that the uptake was increased up to 48.5%. To wheat plant, the addition of surfactants in spray solution of KNF-1002 also increased the foliar uptake and deposition of active ingredient, but its efficiency varied according to the kind of fatty alcohol moiety of polyoxyethylene surfactant. KNF-1002 formulations containing nonaethylene glycol monododecyl ether (LE-9) as an activator and spreader-sticker showed remarkable increases of fungicidal activity against barley powdery mildew.

  • In this study polymer electrolytes containing ethylene carbonate group which have a high dielectric constant and poly(ethylene glycol) as branches were prepared by the Williamson reaction between poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether and block copolymers composed of glycerol-1,2-carbonate and 4-chloromethyl styrene. Interestingly, the highest ionic conductivity of $1.75{\times}10^{-5}S\;cm^{-1}$ was observed from the polymer electrolyte having 7 mol% of ethylene carbonate and the [EO]:[Li] ratio of 32:1. Moreover, it was found that the electrochemical stability of polymer electrolyte was achieved up to 5.5 V because of the presence of ethylene carbonate.

  • The solubility and stability of ondansetron hydrochloride (OS) in various vehicles were determined. The effect of cyclodextrins (CD) on the solubility of OS in water was determined by equilibrium solubility method. The solubility of OS at $32^{\circ}C$ increased in the rank order of isopropyl myristate (IPM) < propylene glycol laurate (PGL) ${\ll}$ propylene glycol monolaurate < propylene glycol monocaprylate (PGMC) < poly(ethylene glycol) 400 < diethylene glycol mono ethyl ether (DGME) < ethanol < poly(ethylene glycol) 300 < water (36.1 mg/ml) ${\ll}$ propylene glycol (PG) (283 mg/ml). The addition of PG or DGME to non-aqueous vehicles such as IPM, PGL and PGMC markedly increased the solubility of OS. The addition of CDs in water increased the solubility. Apparent stability constant for the CD complexation with OS was calculated to be $25.5\;M^{-1}$ for $2-hydroxypropyl-{\beta}-CD\;(2HP{\beta}CD)$. Twenty mM ${\beta}-CD$, 69.4 mM sulfobutyl ether ${\beta}-CD$ and 115.4 mM $2HP{\beta}CD$ increased the aqueous solubilty of OS 1.27, 2.18 and 1.85 times, respectively.   • We report herein synthetic results obtained six new types of bis-benzocrown ethers containing imine group. Bis crown ethers l~3 are aminobenzo-15-crown-5-ether linked with terephthalaldehyde, isophthalaldehyde, phthaldehyde respectively by imine reaction. Bis crown ethers l~3 are different distances in each crown ether rings. Bis crown ether 4 has large cavity in crown ethers. Functionalized crown ether 5 is synthesized amonobenzo-l5-crown-5-ether and terephthaladehyde same ratio at one to one. Bis crown ether 6 has phothosensitive linkage between crown ethers. Bis crown ether 7 is prepared by amonobenzo-l5-crown-5-ether and triethyl ortho formate. 4'-Nitrobenzo-crown ethers and 3',4'-dinitrobenzo-crown ethers were prepared by nitration of benzo crown ethers, obtained from the reaction of catechol and oligoethylene glycol ditosylate. Crown ethers containing aldehyde group were synthesized from the reaction of 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde and corresponding ditosylate respectively. The synthesized crown ethers were characterized respectively by IR, NMR. GC-Mass.
