Health Promotion at Work: A Comparison of Policy and Practice Across Europe

  • Background: Promoting healthy lifestyles at work should complement workplace safety programs. This study systematically investigates current states of occupational health and safety (OHS) policy as well as practice in the European Union (EU). Methods: OHS policies of EU member states were categorized as either prevention or health promotion provisions using a manifest content analysis. Policy rankings were then created for each prevention and promotion. Rankings compared eight indicators from the European Survey of Enterprises on New and Emerging Risks-2 data on prevention and promotion practices for each member state using Chi-square and probit regression analyses. Results: Overall, 73.1% of EU establishments take preventive measures against direct physical harm, and about 35.4% take measures to prevent psychosocial risks. Merely 29.5% have measures to promote health. Weak and inconsistent links between OHS policy and practice indicators were identified. Conclusion: National OHS policies evidently concentrate on prevention while compliance with health and safety practices is relatively low. Psychosocial risks are often addressed in national policy but not implemented by institutions. Current risk assessment methods are outdated and often lack psychosocial indicators. Health promotion at work is rare in policy and practice, and its interpretation remains preventive. Member states need to adopt policies that actively improve health and well-being at the workplace.

Understanding of Business Simulation learning: Case of Capsim

  • Purpose - According to the importance of business simulation learning as a new type of business learning tool, this study reviews the dimensions of business education and a brief history of business education simulation. At the end Capsim strategic management simulation program is introduce with its feature. Research design, data, and methodology - This study has been analyzed in a way that reviews at previous literature on simulation learning and looks at examples and features of Capsim simulation, online business simulation tools which has been used in the global market. Result - Capsim simulations are designed to offer focused opportunities for deep practice. That's why they are often more effective than passive tools such as textbooks, videos, or lectures. By the way, 'deep practice' is very different from 'ordinary practice'. After commuters who drive to school or work can accumulate thousands of hours of driving, but that doesn't make them expert drivers. The key to deep practice is self-awareness. That is, paying attention to what you are doing well and not so well. This is so important to learn that scientists use a specific term for it: 'metacognition', or thinking about the way you think and learn. Conclusion - The use of business simulation learning, such as Capsim, which is a given case, can create similar local systems by potentially engaging a large number of users in the virtual market. It could also be used as an individual to complete business training for students and those who are active in the business field of business.

상급종합병원 간호사의 근거기반실무에 대한 지식과 태도 및 수행 (Registered Nurses' Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practice about Evidence-Based Practice at General Hospitals in Korea)

  • Purpose: Evidence-based practice (EBP) has emerged as a marker for healthcare quality and a global issue in nursing care. This study was conducted to identify Korean registered nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practice about EBP in Korea. Methods: With a cross-sectional design, the EBP questionnaire (EBPQ) was administered to a convenience sample of nurses (N=453) recruited from 44 general hospitals. To increase the response rate, the directors of nursing were individually contacted by the researchers. The final response rate was 95.7%. Results: The majority of participants were females (99.3%), staff nurses (57.8%), and with bachelors degree (40.6%). Most of them (314, 73.4%) had ever heard about EBP. The overall mean score for the EBPQ was $4.72{\pm}0.69$ out of maximum score of 7. The mean score for the knowledge of EBP, attitudes towards EBP, and practice/use of EBP were $4.61{\pm}0.75$, $4.85{\pm}0.94$, and $4.90{\pm}0.88$, respectively. Educational level, age, and exposure to EBP were statistically significant predictors of Korean nurses' EBP perception. Conclusion: The findings showed that nurses with higher education are more likely to use and value the best available evidence for practice. This study suggests needs not only for further exploration but also for developing educational plans provided by each institute to assist nurses with the process of EBP and the associated skills.

Analysis of Organizational Effectiveness Antecedents: Focus on Human Resource Management Practice and Moderating Effect of Firms' the Status Quo

  • Purpose - In a difficult time for a firm, it seems impossible to change circumstances by a firm. Nevertheless, the firm must do whatever it can do by however it can do. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of HRM practice on organizational effectiveness with the status quo of the firm as a moderator. Based on the result of this study, the managerial implication could be suggested as a contextual response to each status quo of the firm in improving and managing organizational effectiveness by HRM practice. Research design, data, and methodology - This study measured organizational effectiveness with employee satisfaction and organizational commitment. HRM practice includes two HR management areas, HR system, and HR attitude. HR system includes education & training and additional wage welfare. HR attitude includes employee stress and empowerment. As for the status quo of the firm, this study considered three construct; firm feature, strategic feature, environment change feature. This study analyzed 397 employees of 24 company data from the 7th HCCP of KRIVET. Result - Hypothesis 1 through Hypothesis 3 were partially supported. The results of this study suggest that to increase organizational effectiveness(job satisfaction and organizational commitment), employee stress and education & training participation need to be managed. And circumstance of an organization as given the Status Quo of the firm needs to be managed differently like firm size, environment change in demand, and technology. Conclusion - This study suggests best-practice implications based on the result between HRM practice and organizational effectiveness. And also suggest differentiation in management to increase the best-fit in management.

미·중 무역 분쟁 관련 환구시보(環球時報) 사설 비교를 통한 비판적 담화분석 - 「용타항미원조적의지타대미무역전(用打抗美援朝的意志打對美貿易戰)」 중심으로 - (A Critical Discourse Analysis Through Comparisons Between Editorials of The Global Times, Huánqiú Shíbào on the 2018 United States-China Trade War)

  • 본 연구는 환구시보 4월 7일 "용타항미원조적의지타대미무역전(用打抗美援朝的意志打對美貿易戰)" 사설에 대하여 비판적 담화분석의 접근법을 활용하여 텍스트 기술, 상호텍스트성, 사회문화적 수행 설명으로 구분하여 분석하였다. 본 사설은 '전쟁(戰爭)'과 관련된 어휘와 프레임을 집중적으로 사용하고 있다. 첫째, "무역전(貿易戰)"과 "항미원조(抗美援朝)"는 은유와 전쟁프레임을 보여주는 예이다. 둘째, "전략(戰略)"은 미국과 중국에 각각 부정적, 긍정적으로 사용되고 있다. 셋째, 다양한 전쟁 용어가 사용되었다. 넷째, '인유법(引喩法)'을 살펴보면, 전쟁관련 표현이 보인다. 본 사설의 상호텍스트성에서 두 가지 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 환구시보가 '대등한 보복'을 줄곧 사용하고 있다. 이유는 자신의 반격을 정당화하고, 그런 중국이 하는 전쟁은 '자위적 차원의 반격전(自衛反擊戰)'이 되도록 포장해주기 위함이다. 둘째, '싸우기는 싫은데, 싸움이 두렵지는 않다'라는 표현이 여러 사설에서 반복되었다. 그 이유는 다음과 같다. (1) 인민의 결집을 호소. (2) 공포심을 일으켜, 그들이 결집해야만 하는 이유를 암암리에 부여. (3) "두렵지 않다"를 통해 중국은 체면을 차리고, 미국에게는 "싸우기 싫다"는 '싸인'을 보내기 위함이다. 맥락상 같은 논지가 약 3개월(2018.03.23.-06.17)의 시간차를 두고 9개 사설에서 비슷한 표현으로 보이는 것은 상호텍스트성의 예라 할 것이다. 본 사설의 사회문화적 수행은 중국 정부의 패권 이데올로기를 전파함에 있다. 첫째, 핵심 국책사업 '중국제조(中國製造)2025'는 절대 포기할 수 없음을 분명히 밝힌 것이다. 둘째, 사설은 "항미원조(抗美援朝)"를 소명하여 미국을 비난 협박하고, 민심의 이반을 다독이며 결집을 호소, 시진핑 정부에 힘을 실어 주고자 하는 의도이다. 셋째, 중국은 미국과의 협상의 여지를 열어두고자 하고 있다.

The Vehicle and Driver of China's Cultural Diplomacy: Global Vision Vs. Localised Practice

  • China's cultural diplomacy is mostly understood as an endeavour to build and project soft power, which draws on three sources of 'culture, political values and foreign policy' according to Nye. This paper focuses on the debates about the vehicle and agents of China's cultural diplomacy. It starts with a theoretical discussion of the competing views in the Chinese context, and develops an argument that the vehicle of China's cultural diplomacy tries to project soft power on two wheels of culture and political values, to serve the purpose of reshaping China's image away from being the 'cultural other' and 'ideological other' respectively. However, the state-led approach to driving this vehicle is generating some side effects with its sponsorship, censorship and presence in the driver's seat. Then the paper analyses the inherent tensions existing in practice both between the two sources of building soft power and between the two means of doing so, attraction and persuasion, with empirical evidence through a comparative case study of the Confucius Institutes in the US and South Korea. The finding shows that China's attempt at reshaping its image as an Eastern cultural contestant is often disrupted by its authoritarian political values, and the state-led persuasion is often reducing China's cultural attraction. Following this, the paper finishes with some recommendations regarding evolving the cultural diplomacy approach from a vertical one that is government-centred to a horizontal one that is network-based with multiple agents, and localising its practice by engaging the target audiences as stakeholders.

Expression of eotaxin in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and the effects of weight loss in high-fat diet induced obese mice

  • Eotaxin is an important inflammatory chemokine in eosinophil chemotaxis and activation and, thus, is implicated in asthma. Recently, obesity was associated with an increased prevalence of asthma, but the relationship between obesity and eotaxin expression has only been partially understood in obese mice and human studies. Therefore, we studied the expression patterns of eotaxin in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes/adipocytes to determine whether eotaxin levels are influenced by body weight gain and/or reduction in diet-induced obese mice. First, we investigated eotaxin expression during differentiation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Then, we treated 3T3-L1 preadipoeytes/adipoeytes with tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-${\alpha}$), eotaxin, interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, or leptin. To examine the effects of weight loss in high-fat diet induced obese mice, we fed C57BL/6 mice a high-fat diet or a normal diet for 26 weeks. Then, half of the high-fat diet group were fed a normal diet until 30 weeks to reduce weight. Epididymal adipose tissue, visceral adipose tissue, serum, and bronchoalveolar fluid of mice were examined for eotaxin expression. The results showed that eotaxin expression levels increased with adipocyte differentiation and that more eotaxin was expressed when the cells were stimulated with TNF-${\alpha}$, eotaxin, IL-4, IL-5, or leptin. An in vivo study showed that eotaxin levels were reduced in visceral adipose tissues when high-fat diet fed mice underwent weight loss. Taken together, these results indicate a close relationship between eotaxin expression and obesity as well as weight loss, thus, they indirectly show a relation to asthma.

간호대학생의 임상실습 전 스트레스에 미치는 영향 요인 (Influencing Factors Stress in nursing students before Clinical Practice)

  • 본 연구는 간호대학생의 임상실습 전 스트레스에 영향을 미치는 요인을 조사하고자 진행되었다. 연구대상은 첫 임상실습을 앞둔 3학년을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 자료수집 기간은 2023년 12월 22일부터 2024년 1월 10일까지 간호대학생 191명을 대상으로 하였다. 연구도구는 스트레스(Pss), 셀프리더십, 의사소통능력(GICC) 도구를 사용하였다. 자료 분석은 t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson 상관분석, 다중회귀분석을 사용하였다. 연구결과, 스트레스는 셀프리더십 (r=-.29, p=<.001), 의사소통능력(r=-.40, p=<.001)과 음의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 단계적 다중회귀분석에서, 간호대학생의 임상실습 전 스트레스는 성별, 학업 만족, 의사소통능력이 영향을 주는 요인으로 나타났고, 이 변수들의 설명력은 33.7%였다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 간호대학생의 임상실습 전 스트레스를 감소시킬 수 있는 교육 프로그램 개발을 고려할 필요가 있겠다.

간호 대학생의 자아 존중감과 의사소통능력이 임상실습 스트레스에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Self-esteem and Communication Competence on Clinical Practice Stress of the Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구는 간호 대학생의 자아 존중감과 의사소통능력이 임상실습 스트레스에 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 하였으며 본 연구의 대상자로 일 대학의 간호 대학생 198명이 참여하였다. 자료 수집은 자아 존중감 척도, 의사소통능력 척도, 임상실습 스트레스 측정도구를 통하여 설문조사하였다. 본 연구 결과 5점 만점에 자아 존중감은 평균 $3.4{\pm}0.57$, 의사소통능력은 평균 $3.5{\pm}0.42$, 임상실습 스트레스는 평균 $3.6{\pm}0.58$으로 나타났다. 또한 일반적 특성 중 남학생보다 여학생(85.4%), 시뮬레이션 실습 경험이 없는 경우보다 있는 경우(72.2%) 임상실습 스트레스가 높게 나타났다. 더 나아가 자아 존중감과 임상실습 스트레스의 하위 변수인 바람직하지 못한 역할모델과 양의 상관관계가 있으며(r=.156, p=.029), 의사소통능력과 임상실습 스트레스(r=-.329, p<.001)는 통계적으로 유의한 음의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 간호 대학생의 임상실습 스트레스에 영향을 미치는 요인은 의사소통능력, 성별, 임상실습만족도, 시뮬레이션 실습경험 여부였다. 이 요인의 설명력은 총 27.8%였다. 본 연구 결과를 토대로 간호 대학생의 임상실습 스트레스를 감소하기 위해서는 이들 변수를 반영한 다양한 교수법 활용 및 학습전략을 마련할 필요가 있다.

지역 혁신과 글로벌 네트워크: 이론적 논의의 비판적 검토와 초국가적 민족 공동체의 역할 (Regional Innovation and Global Networks: Critical Review of Theoretical Arguments and the Role of Transnational Ethnic Communities)

  • 지역 혁신에서 글로벌 네트워크의 중요성과 필요성을 강조하는 선행 연구들이 다수 수행되었지만, 실제로 글로벌 네트워크의 유형과 형성, 그리고 이에 관련된 메커니즘을 설명한 이론적 논의의 진전은 이에 미치지 못하였으며, 관련 논의들은 대부분 서로 다른 학문 분야에서 출발한 개념들을 상호 연결 없이 일부 소개하는 단계에 머물렀다. 따라서 본 논문은 우선 지역 혁신과 관련하여 네트워크의 공간적 측면을 설명한 이론적 논의들의 비판적 검토를 통하여 각각의 한계를 지적하고, 글로벌 혁신 네트워크의 이해를 위해서는 종합적인 시각이 필요함을 주장하고자 한다. 특히 최근 글로벌 혁신 네트워크의 형성에서 그 역할이 주목받고 있는 초국가적 민족 공동체의 개념을 소개하고 그 이론적, 정책적 의의를 제시하고자 한다.
