  • The development of core technologies in the 4th Industrial Revolution, such as artificial intelligence, big data, and the intelligent Internet of Things, promote digital transformation and intelligence of the manufacturing industry. To realize them, there is an increasing demand for materials, components, and equipment needed for final goods. In particular, the expansion of global value chain instability due to changes in the external environment, such as the U.S.-China trade dispute, Japan's export regulations, and Covid-19 pandemic, increases the importance of strengthening the materials, components, and equipment industry in the global market. Thus, this study presents a strategic direction for securing global industrial competitiveness of materials, components, and equipment using Michael Porter's diamond model approach.

  • In order to expand its entry into not only the domestic construction market but also overseas global markets, it is necessary to secure technological competitiveness, and as a fundamental measure, it is necessary to increase the proportion of R&D investment and establish and revitalize R&D organizations. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze construction sales and construction R&D investment for global construction companies in Korea and Japan, derive implications, and provide basic data for government policy establishment and global construction company strategy establishment. As a result of analyzing R&D investments in construction companies in Korea and Japan, it can be seen that Japanese construction companies have higher R&D investment costs compared to sales compared to Korea. In particular, the proportion of R&D investment continues to increase year-on-year, strengthening global competitiveness due to technology development. In addition, Japanese construction companies have established a technology research institute to discover and conduct future R&D research such as advanced IT, disaster prevention, and environment.

  • The information technology, in the digital economy era, does a very important role not only for the country's administrative management innovation but also for the business and for the everyday life. Specifically, the e-business for the company or organization is defined as "using the Internet and IT, rescheduling of business process management activities to increase productivity and efficiency and to create new business opportunities." Thanks to the Korea's recent efforts, overall level of informatization and digitalization is able to receive high praise. • The domestic mold industry is composed of 6,560 small and medium sized mold companies as of 2015. The structure of mold industry centered on less than 10 people in the past has been improved in the direction of increasing number of medium and large scale companies with more than 20 competitors with global competitiveness and has maintained its position as the world's second largest mold exporter with global competitiveness. Nevertheless, the manpower structure and corporate competitiveness structure of the mold industry is very high, with the proportion of production manpower reaching 70% and shortage rate of 10% or more in order to respond to the orders of customers. However, the development base for new employees with technological skills required by the industrial field is poor, and the inflow of young people is very limited due to factors such as the avoidance of small and medium enterprises and production jobs. It is expected that the labor shortage of mold enterprises will be further increased in the future. In the mold industry, due to the characteristics of small quantity multi-product production corresponding to the demand of the consumer, many production processes are individually and independently carried out, resulting in low labor productivity, and the structural time required for the worker to increase the working time Due to limitations, the working hours per week of the employees are about 50 hours. The implementation of the working time reduction bill, which is recently promoted by the government, is a crisis factor. In order to cultivate the mold industry, it is necessary to expand the base of molds to meet the intensification of global competition, the convergence of technologies to actively respond to the restructuring of the industrial structure, and the response to the new industry, It is necessary to improve labor productivity through policies such as development and dissemination of system, and to secure price, delivery and quality competitiveness in global market.

  • The global economy and the air transport business have been affected since the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. As countries tighten restrictions on international movements, the growing emphasis on air cargo puts pressure on airports to maintain and upgrade their cargo policies, facilities, and operations. Hence, ensuring the competitiveness of cargo airports becomes pivotal for airports survival under the volatile global demand. The study aims to evaluate the importance of the competitiveness factors for cargo airports and identify areas for further improvement. The study applies the Best-Worst Method (BWM) to assess the cargo airports' competitiveness factors: 'Transport Capacity,' 'Airport Operations and Facility Capacity,' 'Economic Growth,' 'Financial Performance,' and 'Airport Brand Value.' The selected airports include Heathrow Airport, Aéroport de Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Hong Kong International Airport, and Incheon International Airport. The results identify 'Transport Capacity' as the most significant competitiveness factor, and Hong Kong International Airport the best performing cargo airport. This research forms a reference framework for evaluating cargo airports' competitive position, which may help identify airports' relative strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, this framework can also serve as a tool facilitating the strategic design of airports that may accommodate both air cargo and passenger demand flexibly under the demand uncertainty.
