  • In order to find phenological change of butterflies due to global warming, we analyzed weekly monitoring data of butterfly at Gwangneung forest in 1958 and 2004. It was tested whether the timing of first flight and mean flight of butterflies in 2004 became earlier due to global warming compared with those in 1958 and whether the duration of flight period became longer. No significant difference was found in timing of first flight and in duration of flight period between 1958 and 2004. Furthermore, species showing delayed timing of mean flight was more abundant than species showing earlier timing of mean flight. Hence, the results do not confirm the predicted changes of phonology due to global warming. We discussed reasons on the non-apparent phenological changes despite the increase of temperature, and the problems and solutions in butterfly study on Korean butterfly fauna in utilization of butterflies as indicator for global warming.

  • Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a class of positional, geometric conjugated dienoic isomers of linoleic acid (LA). CLA activates the immune system, protects against tumorigenesis, and reduces the incidence of atherosclerosis. Trans-10, cis-12 CLA has specific effects on lipid metabolism, it has been shown to reduce body fat gain and regulates some adipocyte secreted proteins in vivo and in vitro. Here we report that a CLA mixture affects cytokine secretion from rat primary adipocytes. Rat primary adipocytes were treated with 1 mM, 100 $\mu$M, 1 $\mu$M or 100 nM CLA mixture doses; and leptin, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF a ), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and glycerol levels in the medium were measured. Leptin secretion was lower, TNF $\alpha$ secretion higher and IL-6 secretion did not change in response to the CLA mixture. Leptin and TNF $\alpha$ secretions did not change with CLA mixture treatment in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, the CLA mixture did not appear to enhance lipolysis in rat primary adipocytes. In conclusion, our study demonstrates that the decrease in leptin and increase in TNF $\alpha$ secretion in adipocytes treated with CLA mixture may be due to the apoptotic effect and to a reduction in peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR ${\gamma}$ ) ligands.

  • World Wide Views (WWViews) on Climate and Energy was an experiment of public deliberation which was held in 77 countries with over 10,000 global citizens on June 6, 2015. The coordinator of this project (the Danish Board of Technology with Missions Publiques and the French National Commission for Public Debate) developed the overal procedure, and local partners implemented the actual events in each country on the same day. The coordinator gathered the results of the events from all local sites in order to submit them as global citizens' voice to the COP21 negotiations at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Paris. This study examines the extent to which such new method of WWViews, standardized at global level to be implemented in different local contexts, achieves its quality of public deliberation (representativeness, transparency, impartial inclusion, deliberativeness, influence) by evaluating the Korean WWViews held in Seoul.

  • This paper analyzes properties of the recently developed nonlinear optimization method, Dynamic Encoding Algorithm for Searches (DEAS) [1]. DEAS locates local minima with binary strings (or binary matrices for multi-dimensional problems) by iterating the two operators; bisectional search (BSS) and unidirectional search (UDS). BSS increases binary strings by one digit (i.e., zero or one), while UDS performs increment or decrement to binary strings with no change of string length. Owing to these search routines, DEAS retains the optimization capability that combines the special features of several conventional optimization methods. In this paper, a special feature of BSS and UDS in DEAS is analyzed. In addition, a effective global search strategy is established by using information of DEAS. Effectiveness of the proposed global search strategy is validated through the well-known benchmark functions.

  • In this article we consider the modern trends of global warming, GHG pollutions and discussions of the obligations of developed and developing countries before the UN Global Climate Summit in Paris. The article considers decarbonization as a national strategy, including complex tools for the improvement of energy efficiency, reduction of CO2 and development of emissions trading systems. The author underlines that the Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, have the largest GHG potential in the region, and for this reason they should be within the framework of the UNFCCC and join the international process on development of the national decarbonization strategies.Thesemeasuresallowthese countries to join the global carbon trade marketing, international financial recourses, and significantly reduce CO2 pollutions in the region.

  • Resent East Asian economic growth has lead the increase of global trade volume and global logistics to the level of full-scale development as aiming to have quantitative growth in world trades in one hand and increasing mutual dependence among the East Asian Economic Bloc on the other. In other words, East Asian economic current growth is going along as connecting with 2 different process that are the increase of global trade volume and the technical development of global logistics system. And mutual dependence among the East Asian Economic Bloc shows the deepening trend in production and consumption. While having the flow of expansion in East Asian trade volume and logistics network in mind, this paper will study on trend in East Asian intra-trade and then study on change & tasks in the East Asian Logistics system.

  • The change of the global environment, especially the development of the communication and transportation and the decrease of the trade barrier promotes the progress of globalization. Under this background, the globalization progress of Chinese electronic firms is also pushed forward, compared with the early firms, which is being quickly shortened. This study has some purposes. First, this tries to investigate the growth process of the Chinese electronics firms, by which reveals the progress of the global competition ability and the background of promoting their rapid globalization. Second, this study estimates and analyzes the implemented process of Haier's globalization strategy, which is the Chinese most representative global Firm. Finally, this article elaborates the globalization of Chinese firms and the apocalypse of the Korean firms and also shows the corresponding projects for them.

  • In tandem with Korea's globalization efforts, local restaurant business in growing leaps and bounds. By the year 2000, the industry is expected to soar to one of the major industries with hosting many large-scale international events. Rising to the occasion, the Korea Restaurant Industry needs change itscurrent modus operandi focusing on management skill improvement and globalizatin of its network. In Particular, they need to have their competity edge against multinational Restaurant brands both in local and overseas markets. To further develop the local industry, we need to work on the following areas. 1. Top management is required to show firm commitment to development of local brand that can be a real player in the global market. 2. To make any impact in the global market, a specific marketing strategy needs to be developed fit for each market. 3. To save initial investment expenditure, a close cooperation among local industries is prerequisite. 4. To make the industry easier to go global, local government needs to provide them with financial and taxational benefits.

  • We analyze the stability property of a class of nonlinear time-delay systems. We show that the state variable is bounded both below and above, and the lower and upper bounds of the state are obtained in terms of a system parameter by using the comparison lemma. We establish a time-delay independent sufficient condition for the global asymptotic stability by employing a Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional obtained from a change of the state variable. The simulation results illustrate the validity of the sufficient condition for the global asymptotic stability.

  • This paper presents a method to improve vibration characteristics of servo track write (STW) fixture. STW fixtures supported by flexible mounts are subject to various vibration sources. Using Finite element analysis (FEA) vibration modes of the fixture are identified. The FEA results suggest certain vibration modes be reduced through design change of flexible mounts to improve vibration responses of the fixture. Based on layered flexible mounts theory a parametric study on shear and bending stiffness is performed to obtain a suitable flexible mount design leading to increased resistance to rocking motion. Experiments confirm improvement of vibration characteristics and drive performance through new mounts design.
