Each core competency has sub-competencies. Creativity, commerciality, control, decision making were sub-competencies for the problem-solving competency. Information management, innovation understanding & application, trend analysis & forecasting were sub-competencies for the research competency. Consumer, inside company, and outside company relationships were sub-competencies for the inter-personal competency. Self-awareness, self-management, expertise were sub-competencies for the self-development competency. In order to acquire these competencies, knowledge (academic, practical, multi-discipline), skills (sense, analysis, synthesis, communication), and attitude (interest, enjoyment, perseverance, personality) were essential. Based on these findings, implications for university fashion design education and further research areas were suggested.
Due to the diversification of lifestyles and the rapid growth of Internet environments since the 1990s, mass customization has been recently accepted as an important trend in the area of clothing and all other areas. In response to mass customized clothing products, global clothing product brands are introducing systems for mass customization such as the application of digital fashion systems that introduced IT technologies such as CAD and 3D scanners. However, studies of planning factors for clothing products applied with digital fashion systems in the area of mass production of clothing products are insufficient. Therefore, this study was intended to analyze the lifestyles of 20-30s that are expected to have the highest demand for clothing applied with digital fashion systems and present basic planning factors according to lifestyles. Through the analysis, three groups that have one of fashion pursuing type, sensory information pursuing type, and practical function pursuing type lifestyles were derived. Based on this result, consumer demand for digital fashion systems and basic factors for product planning were analyzed to present basic planning factors for digital fashion system based customized clothing by lifestyle group. This study is meaningful in that it provided basic data for product planning through digital fashion systems by analyzing the awareness, preference, necessity, and planning factors of digital fashion systems through the analysis of lifestyle types.

The global fashion industry produces significant carbon emission and micro-plastics in oceans. Studies on sustainable design methods as such environmental issues in fashion are becoming intensely problematic. This study conducted a case study on 100 upcycle fashion brands to propose strategical upcycle fashion designs to compete in a sustainable fashion market. A literature review indicated that 3 types of textile wastes are generated as upcycling materials: post-producer, pre-consumer and post-consumer. Wastes are categorized together with 3 types of techniques: redesigning, reconstruction and handcrafting. This research derived 7 types of upcycle fashion designs that have the following features: to make luxury upcycle fashion products, to make sustainable grunge looks, to re-evaluate deadstocks, to recover vintage clothes, to convert waste into craft-arts, to offer solutions for damaged products, and to make zero-waste small fabric waste. The study results show that key drivers in the upcycle fashion design are the redesignability of materials and technique-related costs. This study implies that adopting appropriate design features can be a useful strategy for designers. New technologies will solve current problems and encourage them to design products in a new circular value system.

This study investigated the comparative advantages of the Bangladeshi and Vietnamese apparel industries using Global Value Chain (GVC) framework. In this study, the GVC framework was expanded to include social and environmental sustainability issues. Secondary data, for the 2012 - 2013 period, were collected and analyzed for each component of the apparel GVC. The findings indicated that while both countries have unique comparative advantages, Vietnam clearly emerged as a leader on many GVC components. Bangladesh's comparative advantage lies in lower wages, producing high volume orders, and lean manufacturing. In spite of Vietnam's higher labor costs, it has comparative advantages in higher productivity, skilled and trained workers, manufacturing of intricate styles of high quality, agility and flexible manufacturing, more developed infrastructure and logistic services as well as greater social and environmental compliances. This study contributes towards insight into best sourcing fit for fashion brand business models. Based on the findings, fashion driven companies offering more complex styles at a faster rate will benefit from choosing Vietnam. In contrast, Bangladesh might be a better choice for high volume driven companies that offer basic apparel and better value for their consumers. From theoretical perspective, the research makes an important contribution by expanding the GVC framework.

The results of this study are significant because they can be used as a reference to develop a vegan fashion market. Regarding the research method, this study assessed the concept and status of veganism through a literature review and examined vegan fashion case studies by analyzing official websites and media content. The study's scope covers the period from 2005, when H&M was the first SPA brand to create a vegan product line, until 2019. The characteristics of Global SPA's vegan fashion were as follows. Regarding materials, alternative materials were developed and an expanded use of organic materials was implemented. Regarding design, development was achieved through design collaboration and upcycling. In terms of production, an animal welfare policy was adopted and a sustainable supply chain was established. Marketing employed a campaign aimed at encouraging increased consumer participation. The findings regarding the social value of H&M and Zara's vegan fashion were as follows. First, a cyclical economy was realized through circular recycling in the entire process of resource selection, production, and waste disposal. Second, because product consumption indicated the importance of ethical consumption and sustainable consumer participation, corporate financial activities were created based on shared values to accomplish the social outcome. Third, collaborations with luxury brands or vegan fashion designers built a collaborative ecosystem in which vegan fashions were released and consumer participation campaigns were implemented.
Ever-evolving diverse communication tools bring numerous changes and improvements into the lives of humans. It is extremely important to provide visual information when communicating with consumers in the commercial arena because humans acquire over eighty percent of the information around them through sense of sight. One cannot compete with just sheer quality in today's world. Therefore, the applications of digital technology in the visual merchandising became crucial, for it can dramatically improve the market value. Among these applications is digital signage, a new media for esthetic experience. I strongly believe that this would be a new marketing tool for the brand's distinctive and unique publicity. This research has been conducted in order to find out how the fast-growing digital signage, defined by the contents, has become not just a mere digital video clip but an esthetic merchandising tool that can produce various effective marketing strategies; and to discover the characteristics that this application has brought out in the visual merchandising field of fashion stores' global SPA brands. Based on the market case study, analyses have been made for the digital signage types and strategies regarding the visual merchandising expressive elements and for the effects the digital signage application will have on publicity. According to the results, the digital signage has proven to be informative, diversely applicable and contributes greatly to the increase in sales and to the improvement of company and brand image. Thus, it is much more than just a media tool for advertisement.

As the number of companion animals reaches 15 million in 2022, the pet wear market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of about 14.5% from KRW 1.5684 trillion in 2014 to a market size of over KRW 6 trillion in 2027. However, most of the pet clothing and various supplies currently in circulation are either cheap, low-quality products imported from China or other countries, or expensive products released by overseas luxury brands. Therefore, it is urgent to develop a brand that can compete with luxury products coming from overseas by developing premium pet fashion products using high-end functional fabrics produced domestically. This study seeks to propose ways to revitalize the domestic pet fashion market by examining the current status of global pet fashion, the domestic textile industry, and the current status of the pet fashion market. The suggestions and expected effects are as follows. First, active support is needed for the development of products using domestically produced fabrics, such as raising awareness through various subsidy projects and contests. Second, it is expected that small and medium-sized businesses will be revitalized through the production of pet fashion products using high-quality functional knit fabrics produced in northern Gyeonggi Province. Third, it is necessary to produce high-quality premium products through continuous and intensive support from the government and collaboration between large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises. Fourth, there is an urgent need to provide opportunities to train experts for the expected effects of starting businesses and creating new jobs.
