Predictability Experiments of Fog and Visibility in Local Airports over Korea using the WRF Model

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate and improve the capability of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model in simulating fog and visibility in local airports over Korea. The WRF model system is statistically evaluated for the 48-fog cases over Korea from 2003 to 2006. Based on the 4-yr evaluations, attempts are made to improve the simulation skill of fog and visibility over Korea by revising the statistical coefficients in the visibility algorithms of the WRF model. A comparison of four existing visibility algorithms in the WRF model shows that uncertainties in the visibility algorithms include additional degree of freedom in accuracy of numerical fog forecasts over Korea. A revised statistical algorithm using a linear-regression between the observed visibility and simulated hydrometeors and humidity near the surface exhibits overall improvement in the visibility forecasts.

  • Recently, as change in global logistics environment, various issues have been presenting. These issues are including the pursuit of low cost-high added value, the realization of sustainable logistics system, the protection of environment, and the development of ubiquitous techniques. To cope with these environment changes and improve the national logistics system, the government have carried out various logistics policies and pushed ahead development of national logistics information network. But still, from a view-point of national logistics, there are several inefficient elements such as information connection and utilization, code/data standardization. In this paper, the survey result of global logistics environment change, logistics policy of a developed countries, domestic logistics policy and information system status will be presented. And from these status, suggestive points are mentioned. Finally the status of railway logistics information and future developments are presented.

  • Localization is one of the most important functions for the mobile robot navigating in the unstructured environment. Most of previous localization schemes estimate current position and pose of mobile robot by applying various localization algorithms with the information obtained from sensors which are set on the mobile robot, or by recognizing an artificial landmark attached on the wall, or objects of the environment as natural landmark in the indoor environment.   • To be high efficient for a navigation of unmanned ground vehicle, it must be able to distinguish between safe and hazardous regions in its immediate environment. We present an advanced method using laser range finder for building global 2D digital maps that include environment information. Laser range finder is used for mapping of obstacles and driving environment in the 2D laser plane. Rotary encoders are used for localization of UGV. The main contributions of this research are the development of an algorithm for global 2D map building and it will turn a UGV navigation based on map matching into a possibility. In this paper, a map building algorithm will be introduced and an assessment of algorithm reliability is judged at an each environment.

해양환경에 관련된 실험을 위한 최적실험계획 (Optimal Designs for the Experiments related with Marine Environment)

  • This paper develops a new heuristic, the Excursion Algorithm(EA), for constructing optimal designs for the experiments related with marine environment. The proposed EA consists of three parts: 1) construction of an initial feasible solution, 2) excursions over a bounded region, and 3) stopping rules. It is the second part that distinguishes the EA from the other existing heuristic methods. It turns out that excursions over a bounded feasible and/or infeasible region is effective in alleviating the risks of being trapped at a local optimum. Since this problem is formulated for the first time thesis, other heuristic algorithms do not exist. Therefore, global optimal solutions are obtained by complete enumeration for some cases, and the performance of the EA is evaluated in terms of solution quality. Computational results show that the proposed EA is effective in finding good(or, in many cases, global) solutions to the constrained optimal experimental design problems.

  • 본 연구에서는 원거리 지진해일에 대응하기 위한 기초 연구로써 유한 단층 모델과 순환 경계조건을 이용한 전지구 지진해일 예측 시스템을 제안하였다. 제안한 전지구 지진해일 예측 시스템을 2014년 칠레 지진해일에 적용하여 원거리 지진해일에 대한 대응 시스템으로써의 가능성을 검토하였다. 전지구 지진해일 예측 시스템의 경계조건, 지배방정식, 격자 크기, 단층 모델에 따른 지진해일 파고와 도달시각을 DART 부이, 조위관측소 관측 자료와 비교함으로써 유한 단층 모델과 순환 경계조건의 중요성을 확인하였다.

유리병 재사용에 대한 전과정평가 (Life Cycle Assessment on the Reuse of Glass Bottles)

  • 본 연구에서는 유리병 재사용에 대한 환경영향을 알아보기 위하여 전과정평가를 수행하였다. 연구범위로는 제품제조 및 원료수송 단계로 한정지었으며 360 mL 유리병 한 개를 기능단위로 사용하였다. 고려된 환경영향 범주는 6개로 자원고갈, 산성화, 부영양화, 지구온난화, 오존층파괴 및 광화학산화물 생성 등이었다. 전과정평과 결과, 자원고갈이 48.63%, 지구온난화가 46.27%로 두 범주가 가장 큰 환경영향을 보였으며 나머지 범주들은 상대적으로 미미한 영향을 보였다. 전체 공정 중 신병제조공정에 사용되는 화학약품에 의한 환경영향이 71.24%로서 주요인으로 나타났고 전력사용은 16.74%, 수송은 11.8%로 다음을 차지하고 있다. 또한 신병제조공정에 투입되는 화학약품 중 규산나트륨에 의한 환경영향이 45.68%를 차지하고 있어 자원고갈 및 지구온난화에 대한 기여도가 가장 큰 것으로 보인다.

MODELING OF HUMAN INDUCED CO2 EMISSION BY ASSIMILATING GIS AND SOC10-ECONIMICAL DATA TO SYSTEM DYNAMICS MODEL FOR OECD AND NON-OECD COUNTRIES

  • Using GIS and socio-economical data the relationship between human activities and global environmental change Is Analysed from the view point of food productivity and CO2 emission. Under the assumption that the population problem, the food problem and global warming due to energy consumption can be stabilized through managing land use, impacts of human activities such as consumption of food, energy and timber on global environment changes, and global population capacity are Analysed using developed system dynamics model in the research. In the model the world is divided into two groups: OECD countries and the others. Used global land use data set Is land cover map derived from satellite data, and potential distribution of arable land is estimated by the method of Clamor and Solomon which takes into consideration spatial distribution of climate data such as precipitation and evapotranspiration. In addition, impacts of CO2 emission from human activities on food production through global warming are included in the model as a feedback. The results of the analysis for BaU scenario and Toronto Conference scenario are similar to the results of existing models. From the result of this study, the human habitability in 2020 is 8 billion people, and CO2 emission in 2020 based on BaU Scenario and on Toronto Scenario is 1.7 and 1.2 times more than the 1986's respectively. Improving spatial resolution of the model by using global data to distribute the environmental variables and sauce-economical indices is left for further studies.

서울지역 겨울철 대기 에어로졸의 수 농도 및 산란계수 분석 (Urban Aerosol Number Concentration and Scattering Coefficient in Seoul, Korea, during Winter)

  • Size-segregated number concentration and scattering coefficient of urban aerosols were measured using an SMPS (scanning mobility particle sizer) and a nephelometer, respectively in Seoul, Korea, during the winter season of 2003. The average number concentrations of ultrafine particles (20~100 nm) and accumulation mode particles (100~600 nm) were $2,170\;particles\;cm^{-3}$ and $1,521\;particles\;cm^{-3}$, respectively. The scattering coefficient at the wavelength of 550 nm ranged from $62.6Mm^{-1}$ to $330.1Mm^{-1}$ and average value was $163.4Mm^{-1}$. The peak concentrations of ultrafine particles and accumulation mode particles were simultaneously recorded between 6:00 and 9:00 A.M., indicating the effect of vehicle emissions which are major air pollution sources in the urban atmosphere. On average, the number concentration of ultrafine particles was 1.4 times higher than that of accumulation mode particles, although it was a little higher during the morning peak time. The variation of aerosol scattering coefficient was in good agreement with that of accumulation mode particle number concentration rather than that of ultrafine particle number concentration.g coefficient was in good agreement with that of accumulation mode particle number concentration rather than that of ultrafine particle number concentration.
