Infrared radiation (IR) refers to the region of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum where wavelengths range from about 700 nm to 1 mm. Any object with a temperature above absolute zero (0 K) radiates in the infrared region, and a material that transmits radiant energy in the range of 0.74 to 1.4 um is referred to as a near-infrared optical material. Germanate-based glass is attracting attention as a glass material for infrared optical lenses because of its simple manufacturing process. With the recent development of the glass molding press (GMP) process, thermal imaging cameras using oxide-based infrared lenses can be easily mass-produced, expanding their uses. To improve the mechanical and optical properties of commercial materials consisting of ternary systems, germanate-based heavy metal oxide glasses were prepared using a melt-cooling method. The fabricated samples were evaluated for thermal, structural, and optical properties using DSC, XRD, and XRF, respectively. To derive a composition with high glass stability for lens applications, ZnO and Sb2O3 were substituted at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 mol%. The glass with 1 mol% added Sb2O3 was confirmed to have the optimal conditions, with an optical transmittance of 80 % or more, a glass transition temperature of 660 ℃, a refractive index of 1.810, and a Vickers hardness of 558. The possibility of its application as an alternative infrared lens material to existing commercial materials capable of GMP processing was confirmed.
In order to reduce the manufacturing costs of the glass lens, it is necessary to manufacture a lens using a UV curable resin or a thermosetting resin, which is a curable material, in order to replace a glass lens. In the case of forming a lens using a thermosetting material, it is necessary to form several lenses at once using the wafer-level lens manufacturing technologies due to the long curing time of the material. When a lens is manufactured using a curable material, an error in the shape of the lens due to the shrinkage of the material during the curing process is an important cause of defects. The major factors for these shape errors and deformations are the shrinkage and the change of mechanical properties in the process of changing from a liquid material during curing to a solid state after complete curing. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the curing process of the material and to examine the shrinkage rate and change of physical properties according to the degree cure. In addition, it is necessary to proceed with CAE for lens molding using these and to review problems in lens manufacturing in advance. In this study, the viscoelastic properties of the material were measured during the curing process using a rheometer. Using the results, Rheological investigation of cure kinetics was performed. At the same time, The shrinkage of the material was measured and simple mathematical models were created. And using the results, the molding process of a single lens was analyzed using Comsol, a commercial S/W. In addition, the experiment was conducted to compare and verify the CAE results. As a result, it was confirmed that the shrinkage rate of the material had a great influence on the shape precision of the final product.
Recently, with the increasing lightness and miniaturization of high resolution camera phones, the demand for aspheric glass lens has increased because plastic and spherical lens are unable to satisfy the required performance. An aspheric glass lens is fabricated by the high temperature and pressure molding using a tungsten carbide molding core, so precision grinding and coating technology for the molding core surface are required. This study investigates the effect of diamond-like carbon (DLC) and rhenium-iridium (Re-Ir) coating For aspheric molding core surface. The grinding conditions of the tungsten carbide molding core were obtained by design of experiments (DOE) for application in the ultra precision grinding process of the tungsten carbide molding core of the aspheric glass lens used in 5 megapixel, $4{\times}$ zoom camera phone modules. A tungsten carbide molding core was fabricated under this grinding condition and coated with the DLC and Re-Ir coating. By measurements, the effect of DLC and Re-Ir coating on the form accuracy and surface roughness of molding coer was evaluated.
Aspheric glass lens have recently been used in camera phone module because they are more effective than spherical ones. In this paper, the grinding condition of the tungsten carbide molding core has been found after applying DOE to the development of the aspheric glass lens for the 3 Megapixel and 2.5x camera-phone module. Also, the ultra precision grinding process was investigated under this condition by experiment. Re-Ir coating was applied on the ground surface of the tungsten carbide molding core. The influence of Re-Ir coating on the form accuracy and surface roughness of molding core was compared and evaluated. The form accuracy and surface roughness of the molding core were improved by application of Re-Ir coating on the surface of the tungsten carbide molding core.
Novel wafer-level fabrication of a glass ball-lens is realized for optoelectronic applications. A Pyrex wafer is bonded to a silicon wafer and cross-cut into a square-tile pattern, followed by wet-etching of the underlying silicon. Cubes of Pyrex on the undercut silicon are then turned into ball shapes by thermal reflow, and separated from the wafer by further etching of the silicon support. Radial variation and surface roughness are measured to be less than ${\pm}3\;{\mu}m$ and ${\pm}1\;nm$, respectively, for ball diameter of about $500\;{\mu}m$. A surface defect on the ball that is due to the silicon support is shown to be healed by using a silicon-optical-bench. Optical power-relay of the ball lens showed the maximum efficiency of 65% between two single-mode fibers on the silicon-optical-bench.
Among the processes to produce micro lens, the process using press molding is a new technology to simplify the process, but it contains many unknown variables. The press-molding process proposed in this paper was simplified into two step process, the first step is the pressing to design the preform for glass element, the second step is the annealing to reduce the residual stress. It is important to estimate the amount of shrinkage of glass gob and the residual stress during process. It Is difficult to evaluate the process variables as mentioned above through the experiment. The influences due to process variables was evaluated by using FEM parametric analysis. The results in this paper can be applicable to produce micro lens.

Eye Glass Display (EGD) with microdisplay to realize the virtual display can make the large screen, so virtual image has been developed by using microdisplay panel. This paper shows study of spherical prism lens design and manufacture of a small size and light weigh EGD with 0.59" OLED panel. Code V is used and it designed an aspherical prism lens about eye relief 25mm and 42 degree of filed of view (FOV). With the application this aspheric prism lens to OLED type's microdisplay, virtual image showed 60 inch at 2m. It had less than 2% of distortion value and modulation transfer function in axial had 30% of resolution with 32 lp/mm spatial frequency. We made an injection molding bases to lens designed.
In this research, to study tungsten carbide alloy(Co 0.5%) ultra precision turning possibility that is used Glass Molding Press(GMP) using conventional (Rake angle $-25^{\circ}$) single crystal diamond bite observed machining surface condition, surface roughness($R_a$), diamond bite cutting edge after tungsten carbide alloy ultra precision turning. Suggested and designed optimum chamfer bite shape to suggest ultra precision optimum bite using Finite Element Analysis(FEM). After machining tungsten carbide alloy ultra precision turning using optimum chamfer bite and comparing with conventional bite machine result and studied optimum chamfer bite design inspection and also tungsten carbide ultra precision turning possibility for high temperature compression glass lens molding.
We investigated the application of tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) coatings to fabricate a glass lens manufactured using a glass molding process (GMP). In this work, ta-C coatings with different thickness (50, 100, 150 and 200 nm) were deposited on a tungsten carbide (WC-Co) mold using the X-bend filter of a filtered cathode vacuum arc. The effects of thickness on mechanical and tribological properties of the coating were studied. These ta-C coatings were characterized by atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, nano-indentation measurements, Raman spectrometry, Rockwell-C tests, scratch tests and ball on disc tribometer tests. The nano-indentation measurements showed that hardness increased with an increase in coating thickness. In addition, the G-peak position in the Raman spectra analysis was right shifted from 1520 to $1586cm^{-1}$, indicating that the $sp^3$ content increased with increasing thickness of ta-C coatings. The scratch test showed that, compared to other coatings, the 100-nm-thick ta-C coating displayed excellent adhesion strength without delamination. The friction test was carried out in a nitrogen environment using a ball-on-disk tribometer. The 100-nm-thick ta-C coating showed a low friction coefficient of 0.078. When this coating was applied to a GMP, the life time, i.e., shot counts, dramatically increased up to 2,500 counts, in comparison with Ir-Re coating.
