Properties of Low Temperature Sintered Porous Ceramics from Alumina-Zinc Borosilicate Glass (알루미나-아연붕규산염 유리를 이용한 저온 소결 다공성 세라믹스의 제조 및 특성)

  • The low-temperature preparation of porous ceramics was carried out using mixtures of alumina-zinc borosilicate (ZBS) glass. The compositions of alumina-ZBS glass mixture with PMMA pore-former were unfortunately densified. Because PMMA was evaporated below the softening point of ZBS glass ($588{^{\circ}C}$), the densification through the pore-filling caused by the capillary force might occur. Howerver, those with carbon possessed pores where carbon was evaporated above the softening point. The porous ceramic having 35% porosity was successively fabricated by the low-temperature sintering process below $900{^{\circ}C}$ using 45 vol% of alumina, 45 vol% ZBS of glass, and 10 vol% of carbon as starting materials.

A Study on the Sintering and Mechanism of Crystallization Prevention of Alumina Filled Borosilicate Glass (알루미나를 충전재로 첨가한 붕규산염 유리의 소결 및 결정화 방지기구에 대한 연구)

  • The predominant sintering mechanisms of low firing temperature ceramic substrate which consists of borosilicate glass containing alumina as a filler are the rearrangement of alumina particles and the viscous flow of glass powders. In this system, sintering condition depends on the volume ratio of alumina to glass and on the particle size. When the substrate contains about 35 vol% alumina filler and the average alumina particle size is 4 $\mu\textrm{m}$, the best firing condition is obtained at the temperature range of 900∼1000$^{\circ}C$. The extensive rearrangement behavior occurs at these conditions, and the optimum sintering condition is attained by smaller size of glass particles, too. The formation of cristobalite during sintering causes the difference of thermal expansion coefficient between the substrate and Si chip. This phenomenon degradates the capacity of Si chip. Therefore, the crystallization should be prevented. In the alumina filled borosilicate glass system, the crystallization does not occur. This effect may have some relation with aluminum ions in alumina. For aluminum ions diffuse into glass matrix during sintering, functiong as network former.

Chemical Durability of Simulated Waste Glasses (모의 폐기물유리의 화학적 내구성)

  • The dependence of the chemical durability of simulated waste glasses containing the simplified waste similar to the SRP waste on compositions of host glasses, amounts of waste loading, and kinds of leachants has been investigated as a basic study on the waste immobilization through vitrification. The maximum limit of the amount of waste loading for glassforming with the host sodium borosilicate glasses selected in this study was 50wt%. The chemical durability of waste glasses whose host glass belonged to the immiscible composition region was much higher than that of waste glasses whose host glass belonged to the miscible composition region. The former waste glass showed lower chemical durability in deionized and silicate waters than in brine, while the latter glass showed the lowest chemical durability in deionized and silicate waters than in brine, while the latter glass showed the lowest chemical durability in silicate water. It was also observed that the total leaching rates in brine were noticeably small in comparison with those in other solutions. The composition of the host borosilicate glass which was suitable for the treatment of the waste through vitrification was found to be 25 Na2O-5B2O3-70SiO2(wt.%).

  • 1018-1021 The CuO-P$_2$O$_{5}$ containing P$_2$O$_{5}$ as glass-former were prepared by press-quenching method on the copper plate. By post-heat treatment of these glasses, the CuO-P$_2$O$_{5}$ -V$_2$O$_{5}$ -g1ass ceramics was obtained and the crystallization behavior and dc conductivities were investigovted. The heat-treated glass-ceramics decreased in electrical conductivity by the order of 10$^1$ compared to amorphous glass. The linear relationship between In($\sigma$T) and T$^{-1}$ indicated that electrical conduction in CuO-P$_2$O$_{5}$ -V$_2$O$_{5}$ -gass occurred by a small polaron hopping.

We found that $Li_{2}O-P_{2}O_{5}-Bi_{2}O_{3}-V_{2}O_{5}$ glass-ceramics obtained from the crystallization of glass showed signifieantly higher capacity and longer cycle life tham $LiV_{3}O_{8}$ made from powder synthesis. In this paper, we described crystallization process and $LiV_{3}O_{8}$ crystal growth in glass matrix by increasing temperature.   • Vanadate glasses containing 10~20mol% glass former, P$_2$O$_{5}$ were prepared by melting the batch in platinum crucible and quenching on the copper plate. Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ glass-ceramics having LiV$_3$O$_{8}$ were obtained by heat-treatment of this glass in crystallization temperature. The glass-ceramics showed singnificantly good capacity and long cycles life according to heating condition. In this paper, we described electrochemical properties during crystallization process and found the best crystallizaton condition of Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ glass as cathode material. Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ glass-ceramics heat-treated at 233$^{\circ}C$ for 3 hors showed good rechargeable capacity of 220mAh/g in the cycling range between 2.0 and 3.9V.en 2.0 and 3.9V.

  • In this study, $Bi_2O_3-B_2O_3-ZnO$ glass system, which was expected to have similar properties with PbO containing glass system, was selected as a PbO replaceable potential composition because the atomic weight and ionic radius of Bi is similar to those of Pb. Glasses with different modifier/former ratio were prepared by melting the raw ingredient mixtures in $Bi_2O_3-B_2O_3-ZnO$ system, and the thermal and electrical properties of the sintered samples were examined. The glass transition temperatures and the dielectric constant of the glass pellets were between 350 $^{\circ}C{\sim}$500 $^{\circ}C$ and 15-35, respectively.

Stabilization of Heavy Metals in Glasses Containing EAF Dust (전기로 분진이 첨가된 유리의 중금속 안정화 특성)

  • The stabilizing characteristics of heavy metals in the silicate glass (SD), borosilicate glass (BD), and leadsilicate glass (PD) containing Electric Arc furnace (EAF) dust were studied by the Toxic Characterization Leaching Procedure (TCLP) test. Also, the dependence of the amount of EAF dust upon structural changes of SD, BD, and PD glasses and the TCLP results were investigated by the XRD and FT-IR spectroscopy. In the XRD results, all of SD, BD, and PD specimens containing dust up to 30 wt% were amorphous without crystallizing. In the TCLP test, the concentration of heavy metals leached from the glasses increased with the amount of EAF dust added. The SD specimen series showed the lowest heavy metal leaching and the heavy metal leachate of the PD specimens were lower than those of the BD specimens. But, the Pb leaching from the PD specimens was the highest in the PD glass composition due to the high Pb content. The value of oxygen/network former ratio could be used to compare the chemical durability within the same glass series, but not proper to do between the different glass series. Adding the EAF dust to the SD mother glass, decreased the Si-O-Si symmetry and increased the non-bridging oxygen, which weakened the structure and decreased the chemical durability of glasses. In the BD series glasses, the addition of EAF dust caused the structural changes from tetra-borate group to di-borate group and the formation of the 2-dimensional layer structure of pyre- and ortho- borate, which decreased the chemical durability of glasses. It is concluded that SD series glass among the 3 kinds of glasses is the most effective to stabilize the heavy metals of EAF dust.

  • Because of the advancements of these modern tecniques and new materials being developed expressionally diverse methods of utilizing metal and glass are being discovered. modern architects in order to add an open-hearted and homogeneous concept into their endeavors to create a transparent space are inclining to the many expressive characteristics which glass and metal provide. Furthermore the products of these endeavors are bringing forth various key elements in respect to useage for today's interior spaces, Due to differing methods of setting up the interior sphere is fastly becoming more generous than viewpoints of the past. Through the use of organization moreover from the former geometric school of thought curvilinear and active organization/ expressive inclinations are becoming diversified. Thus in accordance with the diversifying methods of fixing glass for a sleek and reflective exterior and due to the influence of durability to these fixtures precision not just decoration is gradually becoming more in demand/ Hereupon this study enlightens from the standpoint of planninf for interior spaces through the utilization of glass and metal upon the key factors of expressive attributes and the possibilities which thusly arise. The purpose of this study is to apply these theories to an actual case model study and verify their validity.
