  • Manufacture of nancomposites has simple process for developing nanocomposites due to the increasing applications using nanofillers. This work studied nanofiller coated glass fiber for reinforcing material with good wetting and conductivity and the morphology of nanofiller coated glass fiber was analyzed by FE-SEM. The durability of reinforced glass fiber was investigated with different shapes of nanofillers using sonication rinsing method. Fatigue test was performed to evaluate the adhesion of reinforcing interface and stability of nanofiller coating layer for single fiber reinforced composites. Apparent modulus and conductivity of nanofiller coating layer were evaluated to realize multifunctional of nanocomposites. Fiber type of nanofiller was better than plate type due to better cohesion between fiber and nanofillers. At last, the stability of fiber type nanofiller of coating layer has better durability and conductivity than plate type case.

  • Mode II delamination propagation is an important damage mode in laminated composites and this paper aims to investigate the behavior of this damage in laminated composite materials using acoustic emission (AE) technique. Three different lay-ups of glass/epoxy composites were subjected to mode II delamination propagation and generated AE signals were recorded. In order to investigate the propagation of delamination behavior of these specimens, AE signals were analyzed using Wavelet Packet Transforms (WPT) and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). In addition, conventional AE analyses were used to enhance understanding of the propagation of delamination damage. The results indicate that different fracture mechanisms were the main cause of the AE signals. The dominant mechanisms in all the specimens were matrix cracking, fiber/matrix debonding and fiber breakage, with varying percentage of the damage mechanisms for each lay-up. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) observations were in accordance to the AE results.

  • In this study, the tensile and compressive tests of glass fiber epoxy composites were performed to measure the strength variation with respect to strain rates of 1-200 $\textrm{sec}^{-1}$. In addition, tensile and compressive tests of 50-200 $\textrm{sec}^{-1}$ strain rates were conducted at a low temperature ($-60^{\circ}C$) to investigate the effects of temperature on the strength variation. From the test results, it was found that the tensile and compressive strengths increased about 100% and 70%, respectively, at the strain rates of 10-100 $\textrm{sec}^{-1}$ compared to the quasi-static strengths while the strengths were little affected by the environmental temperature variation.

  • The on-line cure monitoring of fiber reinforced thermosetting resin matrix composite material was performed for the better quality and productivity during manufacturing. Since the dissipation factor measured by dielectrometry method is dependent on the degree of cure and temperature of resin, in this study, a new method to obtain the degree of cure during on-line cure monitoring for glass/polyester composites was developed by employing a combination function of the temperature and the dissipation factor. Two sensor signals from a K-type thermocouple and an interdigitated dielectric sensor were processed during curing process under various cure cycles. The DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) data was also used for the reference of degree of cure.

  • In this study, mechanical properties of high strength cement composites (HSC) containing recycled glass powder (GP) after heating were investigated. As a result, at 100Mpa, as the heating temperature increased, the compressive strength increased while the elastic modulus decreased . At 140Mpa, after heating at 300℃, the spalling occurred excluding GP0, and it is believed to be due to the high density of HSC.

  • Mechanical and chemical tests were performed on $Zro_2 \cdot SiO_2$ glass fibers manufactured by the sol-gel method and E-glass fibers-reinforced cement composites in order to investigate the interactions between glass fibers and cement matrices. Chemical attack leads to corrosion of the glass fiber surfaces. In the corrosion reactions, the surface of $30ZrO_2 \cdot 70 SiO_2$ glass fibers developed a densified concentric layer, which consists of glass corrosion products with much higher Zr and lower Si than the fresh glass fiber. The layer of reaction product is regarded to stiffen the cement matrices and provide a useful improvement to the mechanical properties. The addition of $ZrO_2$ content increases the corrosion resistance of glass fibers in cement by forming a passivating layer on the surface of glass fibers.

  • Earth is facing a serious problem of pollution and scarcity of energy sources. The synthetic fibers used in automobile and Aerospace manufacturing sectors are non-renewable and harmful to environment. International Agency such as FAA and SAE is forcing for green fuel, green materials and structures. Further exploration is much needed to understand its potential in structural applications. In the current study, hemp and Jute fibre based composites were developed and tested for assessing their suitability for possible applications in automobile and aerospace sectors. Composites were undergone tensile test, water absorption test, and fatigue analysis to understand its behavior under various loading conditions. The finite element analysis has been carried out to understand the fatigue behaviour of composites. The results revealed that the usage of hemp and jute fibre reinforced composites can improve mechanical properties and have shown a viable alternative to replace synthetic fibres such as glass fibres for specific applications. Hemp reinforced bio-composites have shown better performance as compared to Jute reinforced bio-composites while water resistance characteristics for hemp is poorer to jute fibres.

  • Nanostructured high strength metastable Al-, Mg- and Ti-based alloys containing different amorphous, quasicrystalline and nanocrystalline phases are synthesized by non-equilibrium processing techniques. Such alloys can be prepared by quenching from the melt or by powder metallurgy techniques. This paper focuses on one hand on mechanically alloyed and ball milled powders containing different volume fractions of amorphous or nano-(quasi)crystalline phases, consolidated bulk specimens and, on the other hand. on cast specimens containing different constituent phases with different length-scale. As one example. $Mg_{55}Y_{15}Cu_{30}$- based metallic glass matrix composites are produced by mechanical alloying of elemental powder mixtures containing up to 30 vol.% $Y_2O_3$ particles. The comparison with the particle-free metallic glass reveals that the nanosized second phase oxide particles do not significantly affect the glass-forming ability upon mechanical alloying despite some limited particle dissolution. A supercooled liquid region with an extension of about 50 K can be maintained in the presence of the oxides. The distinct viscosity decrease in the supercooled liquid regime allows to consolidate the powders into bulk samples by uniaxial hot pressing. The $Y_2O_3$ additions increase the mechanical strength of the composites compared to the $Mg_{55}Y_{15}Cu_{30}$ metallic glass. The second example deals with Al-Mn-Ce and Al-Cu-Fe composites with quasicrystalline particles as reinforcements, which are prepared by quenching from the melt and by powder metallurgy. $Al_{98-x}Mn_xCe_2$ (x =5,6,7) melt-spun ribbons containing a major quasicrystalline phase coexisting with an Al-matrix on a nanometer scale are pulverized by ball milling. The powders are consolidated by hot extrusion. Grain growth during consolidation causes the formation of a micrometer-scale microstructure. Mechanical alloying of $Al_{63}Cu_{25}Fe_{12}$ leads to single-phase quasicrystalline powders. which are blended with different volume fractions of pure Al-powder and hot extruded forming $Al_{100-x}$$(Al_{0.63}Cu_{0.25}Fe_{0.12})_x$ (x = 40,50,60,80) micrometer-scale composites. Compression test data reveal a high yield strength of ${\sigma}_y{\geq}$700 MPa and a ductility of ${\varepsilon}_{pl}{\geq}$5% for than the Al-Mn-Ce bulk samples. The strength level of the Al-Cu-Fe alloys is ${\sigma}_y{\leq}$550 MPa significantly lower. By the addition of different amounts of aluminum, the mechanical properties can be tuned to a wide range. Finally, a bulk metallic glass-forming Ti-Cu-Ni-Sn alloy with in situ formed composite microstructure prepared by both centrifugal and injection casting presents more than 6% plastic strain under compressive stress at room temperature. The in situ formed composite contains dendritic hcp Ti solid solution precipitates and a few $Ti_3Sn,\;{\beta}$-(Cu, Sn) grains dispersed in a glassy matrix. The composite micro- structure can avoid the development of the highly localized shear bands typical for the room temperature defor-mation of monolithic glasses. Instead, widely developed shear bands with evident protuberance are observed. resulting in significant yielding and homogeneous plastic deformation over the entire sample.

  • Finite element method (FEM) is utilized in the development of products to realistically analyze and predict the mechanical behavior of materials in various fields. However, the approach based on the numerical analysis of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) composites, for which the fiber orientation and strain rate affect the mechanical properties, has proven to be challenging. The purpose of this study is to define and evaluate the mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced plastic composites using the numerical analysis models of Digimat, a linear, nonlinear multi-scale modeling program for various composite materials such as polymers, rubber, metal, etc. In addition, the aim is to predict the behavior of realistic polymeric composites. In this regard, the tensile properties according to the fiber orientation and strain rate of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) with short fiber weight fractions of 30wt% among various polymers were investigated using references. Information on the fiber orientation was calculated based on injection analysis using Moldflow software, and was utilized in the finite element model for tensile specimens via a mapping process. LS-Dyna, an explicit commercial finite element code, was used for coupled analysis using Digimat to study the tensile properties of composites according to the fiber orientation and strain rate of glass fibers. In addition, the drawbacks and advantages of LS-DYNA's various anisotropic material models were compared and evaluated for the analysis of glass fiber reinforced plastic composites.
