Recently, several studies are being conducted to achieve a curvature of 180° or more for the edge of the display glass. The thermocompression molding process is applied to the manufacture of curved glass, and high hardness G5 graphite is used as the mold material to withstand the impact applied to the mold. G5 graphite has high hardness and strong brittleness, which makes tool wear and surface damage easy during machining. Therefore, the demand for diamond-coated tools with good mechanical properties is increasing in the G5 machining field. In this study, the optimal cutting conditions and machinability of a nanodiamond (NCD) coated ball end mill being developed by a tool manufacturer were analyzed and evaluated. For this purpose, the same test was performed on the microdiamond (MCD) coated ball end mill and compared together. In summary, the machinability of MCD and NCD coated tools showed better cutting performance at a cutting speed of 282 m/min, a feed rate of 1,400 mm/min, and a radial depth of cut of 0.08 to 0.1 mm.
We report the effect of wet ball milling conditions on the transparency of glass frit. Generally, the particle size of glass frit decreased as the milling time increased. And the transparency of glass frit changed with the particle size variation. The transparency of glass frit A increased as the milling time increased. But, the transparency of glass frit B, containing high $B_2O_3$ decreased as the particle size decreased. It seems to be the result of chemical reaction with water and glass frit.
We investigated the application of tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) coatings to fabricate a glass lens manufactured using a glass molding process (GMP). In this work, ta-C coatings with different thickness (50, 100, 150 and 200 nm) were deposited on a tungsten carbide (WC-Co) mold using the X-bend filter of a filtered cathode vacuum arc. The effects of thickness on mechanical and tribological properties of the coating were studied. These ta-C coatings were characterized by atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, nano-indentation measurements, Raman spectrometry, Rockwell-C tests, scratch tests and ball on disc tribometer tests. The nano-indentation measurements showed that hardness increased with an increase in coating thickness. In addition, the G-peak position in the Raman spectra analysis was right shifted from 1520 to $1586cm^{-1}$, indicating that the $sp^3$ content increased with increasing thickness of ta-C coatings. The scratch test showed that, compared to other coatings, the 100-nm-thick ta-C coating displayed excellent adhesion strength without delamination. The friction test was carried out in a nitrogen environment using a ball-on-disk tribometer. The 100-nm-thick ta-C coating showed a low friction coefficient of 0.078. When this coating was applied to a GMP, the life time, i.e., shot counts, dramatically increased up to 2,500 counts, in comparison with Ir-Re coating.
Dense glass-ceramics for low firing temperature substrate were prepared by addition of CeO2 flux to the glass of MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system. Glass powders were fabricated by melting at 150$0^{\circ}C$ and ball milling. Glass powder compacts were sintered at 800~100$0^{\circ}C$ for 3h. The crystallization and the shrinkage behaviors of glass powder compacts were analyzed by XRD, DTA and TMA. The shrinkage of glass powder compact increased with increasing the amount of CeO2. Because the softening temperature decreased and the crystallization temperature increased with increasing the amount of CeO2. Apparently, addition of CeO2 prevented formation of $\mu$-cordierite phase from the glass-ceramics and improved formation of $\alpha$-cordierite phase. Therefore crystallization properties were enhanced.
Sintering behaviors of the glass-alumina composites for low firing temperature were investigated as a function of the particle size of glass frit. The system of glass frit was Pb-B-Si-Al-O. The median particle sizes of the glass frits were 2.72$\mu\textrm{m}$, 2.67$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 1.33$\mu\textrm{m}$, which were prepared with changing ball-milling times as 24 h, 48 h and 96 h. The glass-alumina composites showed maximum density at certain temperature, and further heating led to dedensification behaviors, so called over-firing. The sintering temperature, which showed maximum density, raised from 425$^{\circ}C$ to 475$^{\circ}C$ with increase of particle size of glass frit from 1.33$\mu\textrm{m}$ to 2.72$\mu\textrm{m}$. Especially, the over firing behaviors, which were occurred at high sintering temperatures, were greatly increased with decrease of particle size of glass frit.
Sintering and dielectric characteristics of substrates were estimated by mixing rate of alumina and potashborosilicate glass(PBSG) powders. PBSG powders were used 7761(corning code)and alumina powders were used in extra pure rate(99.9%) and had 0.1 ${\mu}$m mean size. After ball milling with organic additives green sheets which were casted by doctor blade machine were sintered at 800$^{\circ}C$ for 1∼3hrs. Microstructure, linear shrinkage and dielectric constant of substrates were surveyed in order to fabricate low-dielectric and low tem-perature sintering substrate.
We study substrate support structures and materials to improve uptime and shorten preventive maintenance cycles for chemical vapor deposition equipment. In order to improve the rolling of the substrate support, the bushing device adopts a ball transfer method in which a large ball and a small ball are mixed. When the main transfer ball of the bushing part of the substrate support contacts the substrate support, the small ball also rotates simultaneously with the rotation of the main ball, minimizing the resistance that can be generated during the vertical movement of the substrate support. As a result of the improvement, the glass substrate breakage rate is reduced by more than 90 ~ 95 %, and the equipment preventive maintenance and board support replacement cycles are extended four times or more, from once a month to more than four months, and the equipment uptime is at least 15 % improved. This study proposes an optimization method for substrate support structure and material improvement of chemical vapor deposition equipment.
