Analytical elements in Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) Programs: From Psychoanalytical and Existential Aspects (정신분석적 및 존재론적 측면을 중심으로 한 GIM 음악분석)

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide basic guidelines for listening and analyzing GIM music literature. Many GIM practitioners have developed listening guidelines for GIM music literature, however, there needs to be a more structured guidelines and criteria for beginning GIM trainees. This paper has utilized the psychoanalytic and existential analysis of musical elements suggested by Bruscia, which focuses on the rhythmic and tonal components of musical elements. These components deal with the energy level and emotional depth embedded in the music, which are important essences in imagery experiences. The paper further reviewed various approaches of analyzing music which are musical, phenomenological, and heuristic. These approaches include both musical analysis and analyzer's subjective experiences of music. However, it is more essential firstly to understand the basic musical criteria in relation to psychoanalytic and existential aspects before going into subjective experiences of music listening for the beginning GIM trainees.

Music Choices of GIM(Guided Imagery and Music) Therapist in GIM: Narrative Literature Review (GIM(Guided Imagery and Music)에서 GIM 치료사의 음악 선택에 관한 내러티브 문헌 고찰)

  • The purpose of this research was to review the music choices of GIM therapists in GIM. Seven databases and nine music therapy journals were searched with keywords such as "Guided Imagery and Music", "GIM", "Helen Bonny", "Bonny method", "Music and Imagery" and "BMGIM" between 1964 to 2013. Every abstract was confirmed to see whether it meets this research topic. 12 of 126 articles that described the reasons for music choices were selected. It is the result of narrative literature review that GIM therapists chose music to match clients' qualities of moods, emotions, feelings related with issues and clients' themes in therapy. In 5 articles among the 12 articles, authors chose music with considering music elements analytically to match clients' states. Reasonable explanations for music choice were reviewed in these 5 articles. There were limitations to obtain common facts between articles because most of 126 articles were case studies which described from therapists's point of view in a qualitative way. A more fundamental research is required to obtain rationales of music choices in GIM as a music-centered music psychotherapy for the further research.

The Phenomenological Study on Self-actualization of Middle-aged Single Mothers - Application of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) - (한 부모 중년 여성가장의 자기실현과정에 관한 현상학적 연구 -심상유도 음악치료(GIM) 적용-)

  • The number of single-parent families in South Korea increased since 2000, related to a sharp rise in the divorce rate of 50s and an increase in male mortality rates among those aged 40s-50s. Middle-aged single mothers experience a critical period realizing self-actualization needs, while being in the middle adulthood from the lifespan developmental perspective. In this respect, it is significant to study self-actualization of middle-aged single mothers through guided imagery and music (GIM) in order to provide them with psychological support. This study was conducted from September 2018 to June 2020, and the GIM sessions were conducted at least 10 times. Four participants were selected among the middle-aged single mothers. The imagery experiences of participants in the GIM sessions were classified into four sub-elements: physicalness, emotion, memory, and sense. Within those sub-elements, eight semantic units were categorized into 46 elements. Finally, 152 semantic units were derived. Moreover, the self-actualization which participants experienced through GIM presented three archetypal images: shadow, persona, and the self. In the GIM sessions, experiences of putting their negative emotions associated with family into words and changing passive self-imagery into active one enabled participants to bring the shadow into their consciousness, there by recognizing their positive and bright internal self. Furthermore, participants could map that their current status as people marginalized by siblings and parents, enraged and holding double standards for others, was suppressed by their 'good daughter' and 'religious' personas. This realization lead them to realize and restore their persona. The use of GIM in the study allowed participants to elicit re-experiences of the negative events, while experiencing various imagery and music. This process helped participants achieve self-actualization.

Development of Korean VTEC Polynomial Model Using GIM

  • The models used for ionosphere error correction in positioning using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) are representatively Klobuchar model and NeQuick model. Although these models can correct the ionosphere error in real time, the disadvantage is that the accuracy is only 50-60%. In this study, a method for polynomial modeling of Global Ionosphere Map (GIM) which provides Vertical Total Electron Content (VTEC) in grid type was studied. In consideration of Ionosphere Pierce Points (IPP) of satellites with a receivable elevation angle of 15 degrees or higher on the Korean Peninsula, the target area for model generation and provision was selected, and the VTEC at 88 GIM grid points was modeled as a polynomial. The developed VTEC polynomial model shows a data reduction rate of 72.7% compared to GIM regardless of the number of visible satellites, and a data reduction rate of more than 90% compared to the Slant Total Electron Content (STEC) polynomial model when there are more than 10 visible satellites. This VTEC polynomial model has a maximum absolute error of 2.4 Total Electron Content Unit (TECU) and a maximum relative error of 9.9% with the actual GIM. Therefore, it is expected that the amount of data can be drastically reduced by providing the predicted GIM or real-time grid type VTEC model as the parameters of the polynomial model.

Real-time semantic segmentation of gastric intestinal metaplasia using a deep learning approach

  • Background/Aims: Previous artificial intelligence (AI) models attempting to segment gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) areas have failed to be deployed in real-time endoscopy due to their slow inference speeds. Here, we propose a new GIM segmentation AI model with inference speeds faster than 25 frames per second that maintains a high level of accuracy. Methods: Investigators from Chulalongkorn University obtained 802 histological-proven GIM images for AI model training. Four strategies were proposed to improve the model accuracy. First, transfer learning was employed to the public colon datasets. Second, an image preprocessing technique contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization was employed to produce clearer GIM areas. Third, data augmentation was applied for a more robust model. Lastly, the bilateral segmentation network model was applied to segment GIM areas in real time. The results were analyzed using different validity values. Results: From the internal test, our AI model achieved an inference speed of 31.53 frames per second. GIM detection showed sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive, negative predictive, accuracy, and mean intersection over union in GIM segmentation values of 93%, 80%, 82%, 92%, 87%, and 57%, respectively. Conclusions: The bilateral segmentation network combined with transfer learning, contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization, and data augmentation can provide high sensitivity and good accuracy for GIM detection and segmentation.

An Empirical Study for Development of Onshore Gim (Pyropia yezoensis) Aquaculture System (육상 김 양식 시스템 개발을 위한 실증화 연구)

  • As a first step in obtaining the minimum level of data needed to develop smart cultivation technology for Korean seaweed gim (Pyropia yezoensis), farming tests have been carried out using onshore aquaculture facilities. The aquaculture facility was built on paddy farmland on the west coast of Chungnam and received seawater from nearby sea. In this paper, we report the overall process and results of the aquaculture trials attempted in Korea's first onshore gim aquaculture facilities. In addition, the industrial possibility of gim production using the onshore aquaculture system will be discussed through the analysis of all expenses incurred in the test form.

  • 이번의 GIM 2002의 한국개최 결정은 이의 유치를 국내 미생물하계가 수년에 걸쳐 조직적으로 준비해온 것은 아니라 할지라도 그만큼 국제학회 개최에 대한 공감대 및 여건이 성숙되어 있었기 때문에 가능한 것이었다. 또한 그동안 높아진 한국의 위상과 특히 국내의 미생물 관련 연구수준이 국제적으로 인정을 받게 되었다는 점에서 이번 GIM 2002의 유치는 커다란 의의를 지니는 것으로 평가된다. 그러나 GIM 2002의 개최가 국내 미생물학계로는 최초의 본격적인 국제행사인 만큼 이의 성공을 위해서는 만반의 준비를 갖추어야 할 것이다. 국제 학술대회의 성공여부는 발표된 논문의 질적, 양적 우수성 뿐만 아니라 대회가 얼마나 효율적으로 기획되고 운영되었는가에 좌우될 것이므로 조직위원 및 행사주관요원 몇 사람의 능력과 노력만이 아닌 국내 미생물학계 전체의 역량이 결집되어야만 할 것이다. GIM 2002의 성공적인 개최를 위해 회원 여러분의 지속적인 관심과 적극적인 참여를 기대해 본다.

Plasmaspheric contribution to the GPS TEC

  • We performed a comprehensive comparison between GPS Global Ionosphere Map (GIM) and TOPEX/Jason (T-J) TEC data for the periods of 1998~2009 in order to assess the performance of GIM over the global ocean where the GPS ground stations are very sparse. Using the GIM model constructed by CODE at University of Bern, the GIM TEC values were obtained along the T-J satellite orbit at the locations and times of the measurements and then binned into various geophysical conditions for direct comparison with the T-J TECs. On the whole, the GIM model was able to reproduce the spatial and temporal variations of the global ionosphere as well as the seasonal variations. However, the GIM model was not accurate enough to represent the well-known ionospheric structures such as the equatorial anomaly, the Weddell Sea Anomaly, and the longitudinal wave structure. Furthermore, there seems to be a fundamental limitation of the model showing the unexpected negative differences (i.e., GPS < T-J) in the northern high latitude and the southern middle and high latitude regions. The positive relative differences (i.e., GIM > T-J) at night represent the plasmaspheric contribution to GPS TEC, which is maximized, reaching up to 100% of the corresponding T-J TEC values in the early morning sector. In particular, the relative differences decreased with increasing solar activity and this may indicate that the plasmaspheric contribution to the maintenance of the nighttime ionosphere does not increase with solar activity, which is different from what we normally anticipate. Among these results, the plasmaspheric contribution to the ionospheric GPS TEC will be presented in this talk and the rest of it will presented in the companion paper (poster presentation).

A Study on Gas-assisted Injection Molding in Housing Molded Parts (하우징 제품의 가스사출성형에 관한 연구)

  • This study focuses on part quality and cycle times under gas-assisted injection molding(GIM) of housing molded parts. The position of the gas channel was estabished near to parting line at the end of last locations to fill. Applied hot runner and valve gates the gas was introduced directly into the mold cavity via gas pin. As GIM was applied the introduced directly into the mold cavity via gas pin. As GIM was applied the conclusion reached as follows. I) The quality of appearance was improved by reducing sink marks and scratches of texture ii) The realibility was improved by preventing warpages and reinforcing rigidity through optimum gas channel layout iii)It is enable to use small size of injection molding machine step by step as GIM was accomplished low pressure and reduced clamp forces against CIM iv)The productivity were improved by reducing cycle times.

  • This study aimed to develop low-salt seasoned Gim (김) with new functionality to meet the diversification of the export market and consumer demand for Gim, which is one of the four major seafood products in Chungcheongnam-do province. Spirulina, a microalgae containing essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals, is known to have antioxidant components such as phycocyanin. Therefore, to determine the suitability of spirulina as a seasoning material, we conducted seaweed. It can be used as a substitute for seasoning salt in the development of low-salt seasoned laver with enhanced functionality.
