Fractures and segmentation in association with the activities of the Yangsan fault are studied around Mt. Namsan, Gyengju city in the southeastern part of Korea. It is believed that the higher values of joint density and fractal dimension with the approach of the center of the Yangsan fault mean intense fracturing due to the fault activity. The boundary between fault damage zone and host rock is inferred to be placed at about 2.7 km from the center of the Yangsan fault where the values of joint density and fractal dimension abruptly decrease and the orientations of joint are also much dispersed. The small faults within the damage zone of the Yangsan fault are definitely divided into right-lateral and left-lateral strike-slip faults. The former is considered to be formed during the right-lateral movement of the Yangsan fault and the latter during the left-lateral movement. The Yangsan fault is segmented in the study area with obvious evidences as follows: (1) the difference of fault strike between northern and southern segments, (2) The geometry of contractional imbricate fans and syncline plunging $9^{\circ}$, $S85^{\circ}E$ at the end of northern segment, and (3) anticline plunging $28^{\circ}$, $N4^{\circ}W$ at the end of southern segment.
This study has been established with two purposes. The first one is to development the learning-teaching model for enhancing students' creative proof capacities in the domain of demonstrative geometry as subject content. The second one is to aim at experimentally testing its effectiveness. First, we develop the learning-teaching model for enhancing students' proof capacities. This model is named the generative-convergent model based instruction. It consists of the following components: warming-up activities, generative activities, convergent activities, reflective discussion, other high quality resources etc. Second, to investigate the effects of the generative-convergent model based instruction, 160 8th-grade students are selected and are assigned to experimental and control groups. We focused that the generative-convergent model based instruction would be more effective than the traditional teaching method for improving middle school students' proof-writing capacities and error remediation. In conclusion, the generative-convergent model based instruction would be useful for improving middle grade students' proof-writing capacities. We suggest the following: first, it is required to refine the generative-convergent model for enhancing proof-problem solving capacities; second, it is also required to develop teaching materials in the generative-convergent model based instruction.
This paper presents the two and three -dimensional stability analysis of nonhom- ogeneous, c-o soil slopes. Potential failure surface is assumed as a logspiral curve refracted in boundaries of layers. In 3-D analysis, rotational soil mass is assumed with a cylindroid central part terminated with plane ends. Seismic force is considered by sesmic intensity. The program developed in this study is compared with the program PCSTABLS. The ratio of three-dimensional minimum factor of safety to two-dimensional case is examined and factor of safety changes are showed for the ratio of cylindroid length to slope height and numbers of slice. On such bases the following conclusions may by made : (1) The program developed in this program is less conservative than the program PCSTABLS. (2) The value of F2 of this study shows the larger differences than that of PCSTABLS with increasing friction angle (3) Factors of safety computed for 3-D geometry differ considerablely from ordinary 2-D factors of safety. Since Fb/F2 exceeds unity, three -dimensional effects tend to increase the factor of safety. (4) As the ratio of three - dimensional failure width of slope height, b/H increase, the value of Fb/Ff decreases and approaches 1.0 when bye is 14. (5) In calculating the factor of safety using the developed program the number of slices is suitable with the ranges of 30-40
The physicochemical properties of clay minerals have been investigated at the atomistic to nano scale. The microscopic studies are often challenging to perform by using experimental approaches alone. In particular, hydroxyl groups of octahedral sheets in 2:1 clay minerals have been hypothesized to impact the sorption process of metal cations; however, X-ray based techniques alone, a common tool for mineral structure examination, cannot properly test the hypothesis. The current study has examined whether computational mineralogy techniques can be applied to examine the hydroxyl structures of clay minerals. Based on quantum-mechanics and molecular-mechanics computational methods, geometry optimizations were carried out for representative dioctahedral and trioctahedral phyllosilicate minerals. Both methods well reproduced the experimental lattice parameters; however, for structural distortion occurring in the tetrahedral or octahedral sheets, molecular mechanics showed significant deviations from experimental data. The orientation angle of the hydroxyl with respect to (001) basal plane is determined by the balance of repulsion between the hydroxyl proton and Si cations of tetrahedral sites; the quantum-mechanics method predicted $25-26^{\circ}$ for the angle, whereas the angle predicted by the molecular-mechanics method was much higher by $10^{\circ}$ (i.e., $35^{\circ}$). These results demonstrate that computational mineralogy techniques are a reliable tool for clay mineral studies and can be used to further elucidate the roles of hydroxyls in metal sorption process.
The purpose of this study is to analyze tasks reflected in Korean and US textbooks according to the mathematical modeling perspectives, and then to compare the diversity of learning opportunities given to students from both countries. For this, we analyzed mathematical modeling tasks of textbooks based on three aspects: mathematical modeling process, data, and expression. Results are as follows. First, with respect to modeling process, Korean textbook provides a high percentage of the task at all stages of modeling than US textbook. Second, with respect to data, both countries' textbooks have the highest percentage of matching task. Korean textbooks have a large gap in data characteristics by textbook. Third, with respect to expression, both countries' textbooks have the highest percentage of text and picture. Korean textbooks have a large gap in the type of expression than US textbooks, and some textbooks have no other expression except for text and picture. Fourth, tasks were analyzed by integrating the three features. The three features were not combined in various ways. It is necessary to diversify the integration of the three features.
In order to increase the therapeutic effect of radiation, there has been an increase in the use of conventional photon therapy. The intensive care unit should pay more attention to the radiation safety evaluation due to the higher energy and the larger facility compared to the existing Photon treatment. These radiation safety evaluations are mainly performed by using Monte Carlo simulation, and the first thing to be done is geometric modeling. The Heavy-ion treatment facility uses synchrotron as the accelerating device, which is difficult to precisely model geometrically and is mostly modeled briefly. This study investigated the effect of simplification and precise implementation of Dipole magnet among the components of synchrotron acceleration device on the radiation safety evaluation. The results show that the simplified geometric model is overestimated with the precisely implemented geometric model. Therefore, it is considered that the radiological safety evaluation results in more reliable results of the precise geometric modeling.

The linkage framework of surface geometric modeling based on the NURBS and shell finite element analysis is developed in this study. In the geometrically exact shell finite element analysis, the accuracy of the analysis strongly depends upon the accurate computation of the surface geometric quantities. Therefore if we obtain the necessary geometric quantities from the NVRBS surface equation, it's possible to construct the effective linkage framework of surface modeling in the CAD systems and shell finite element analysis using geometrically exact shell finite element. Besides, the linkage framework can be applied to the analysis of general and complex surfaces as well as simple surfaces. In this study, the shell surfaces are generated by interpolating given set of data points based on the NURBS surfaces. These data points usually can be obtained from surface scanning. But the representations of the generated NURBS surface are not same to one another. The accuracy depends on the chosen parameterization methods used in NURBS. Therefore, it is needed to select the suitable parameterization method according to the geometry of the surfaces. To verify the performance and accuracy of our developed linkage framework, we solve several well-known benchmark problems and assess the performance of the developed method.

Calcium phosphate cement (CPC) has been used as bone substitute successfully due to good biocompatibility and osteoconductivity. One of the important mechanical characteristics of CPC is flowablility, which can be evaluated by measuring rheological parameters. However, there have been few studies that measured rheological properties of CPC. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the rheological properties of CPC paste mixed with 2 kinds of setting solutions, 2% hydroxyprophyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and 35% polyacrylic acid (PAA). The CPC used was dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD). Rheological properties of CPC paste were measured using rheometer. The statistical analysis was carried out with Mann-whitney test with Bonferronis collection. CPC with both setting solutions showed shear thinning behavior. CPC with 2% HPMC showed signigicantly higher complex viscosity than CPC with 35% PAA(p<0.05).
$CO_2$ enrichment systems have been recently used to shorten the growth period of plants and the improvement of harvest and its quality. To accomplish these goals, manifold should be designed to supply the same amount of $CO_2$. In this study, CFD approach has been used to understand the effects of geometric parameters, such as tube and hole diameters. An optimized geometry has been derived through pipe and tube part, respectively. As a result, the deviation of flow rate less than 0.1 g/s was expected at all holes of the $CO_2$ enrichment system.

Unlike its archetype predecessor such as the Highway Capacity Manual of the United States, the Korean Highway Capacity Manual of 2013 provides the analytical models for estimating the saturation flow rates for the lane-occupying work-zones in the proximity of the signalized intersections. Direct application of the revised saturation flow rates into the classic control delay models, however, appears to produce unreasonable delay amount as traffic demand approaches lane-group capacities and surpasses them, which is common phenomena in the work-zones. Complex interaction among vehicles, lane-dropping work-zone geometry and signal operations were never accounted in the traditional control delay models, and considerable differences between the delay model outcomes and field observations are repeatedly experienced. This paper proposes the modified approaches to the delay models in the manual, exerted on all three elements of control delay, and particularly focuses on the temporal and spatial boundary expansion in comparing the simulated results to the estimated ones. Extensive microscopic simulation work and calibration effort supports the modified approaches well enough to use them in the work-zone planning and evaluation.
