Low-tension cables have been increasingly used in recent years due to deep-sea developments and the advent of synthetic cables. In the case of low-tension cables, large displacements may happen due to relatively small restoring forces of tension and thus the effects of fluid and geometric non-linearities become predominant. In this study, three-dimensional (3-D) dynamic behavior of a towed low-tension cable with non-uniform characteristics is numerically analyzed by considering fluid and geometric non-linearities and bending stiffness. A Fortran program is developed by employing a finite difference method. In the algorithm, an implicit time integration and Newton-Raphson iteration are adopted. For the calculation of huge size of matrices, block tri-diagonal matrix method is applied, which is much faster than the well-known Gauss-Jordan method in two point boundary value problems. Some case studies are carried out and the results of numerical simulations are compared with a in-house program of WHOI Cable with good agreements.
Various decorative patterns and sculptures found in antique architectures like palace architecture and temple architecture are not only valuable assets of our culture but have religious meaning at the same time and show aesthetic aspiration and desire of Korean people. In this study, potential application of patterns in textile industry is suggested based on the reconstructed and patternized geometric patterns of window grids, a decorative element in architecture, and stair and stair somaetdol, a architectural element in Buddhist temples, using Photoshop and Illustrator program of Adobe INC AND Tex-pro program of Youngwoo CNI INC. All around the world today, efforts to reinterpret unique and antique architectures and cultural assets in a modern way has been increasing. Decorative patterns displayed in Buddhist temple architectures which are antique Korean architectures have excellent geometric aesthetic value. And the development potential of patternizing these elements into modern designs is high. Therefore, it is thought to be possible to develop high value-added fabric and to develop various fashion items including apparel and interior decoration based on modern reinterpretation of patterns of window grid and decorative elements of stairs and stair somaetol that are part of our antique architectures.
The influence of spacers on the behaviour and ultimate capacity of intermediate length CFS open section columns under axial compression is investigated in this paper. The focus of the research lies in the cross- section predominantly, failed by distortional buckling. This paper made an attempt to either delay or eliminate the distortional buckling mode by the introduction of transverse elements referred herein as spacers. The cross-sections investigated have been selected by performing the elastic buckling analysis using CUFSM software. The test program considered three different columns having slenderness ratios of 35, 50 & 60. The test program consisted of 14 pure axial compression tests under hinged-hinged end condition. Models have been analysed using finite element simulations and the obtained results are compared with the experimental tests. The finite element package ABAQUS has been used to carry out non-linear analyses of the columns. The finite element model incorporates material, geometric non-linearities and initial geometric imperfection of the specimens. The work involves a wide parametric study in the column with spacers of varying depth and number of spacers. The results obtained from the study shows that the depth and number of spacers have significant influence on the behaviour and strength of the columns. Based on the nonlinear regression analysis the design equation is proposed for the selected section.
The design methodology of plastic injection molding die has been gradually moved from two-dimensional line drawings to three-dimensional solid models. The 3D design gives many benefits, a few of which are: ease of design change, data associativity from concept design to final assembly. In the paper represented is the implementation of a program which automatically generates 3D mold-bases and cooling-lines, conforming to given geometric constraints. It utilized a commercial CAD software and the related API(application program interface) libraries. We constructed a DB(database) of typical mold-bases assembled from standard parts, from which the geometry (position & dimension) of a mold-base and composed parts can be automatical]y determined by a few key parameters. Also we classified cooling lines into several typical types and constructed a DB, from which the position of cooling lines is automatically determined. The research is expected not only to simplify construction of a 3D mold-base model including cooling lines but also to reduce design efforts, by way of databases and automatized determination of geometric dimensions.
It is difficult to analytically derive a volumetric displacement formula of gerotor hydraulic pump/motor because geometric shape of rotors is complicated. An analytical method about the volumetric displacement is proposed in this work, which is relatively easy and based upon two physical concepts. The first one is energy conservation between hydraulic energy of the pump/motor and mechanical input/output energy. The second concept is torque equilibrium with respect to inner and outer rotors. The formula about the volumetric displacement is derived for the common case of inner and outer rotors rotate with respect to fixed axes. The formula is verified by comparing another analytical displacement formula, and it is numerically verified by comparing numerical results, which is calculated for geometric specification of a motor. The numerical displacement is calculated through CAD software program and MATLAB program. The proposed analytical formula can be utilized in analysis and design of hydraulic gerotor motors.

This paper is to model a 3D-shape product applying mathematically the data acquired from a 3D scanner and using an Automatic Design Program. The research studied in the reverse engineering up to now has been developed continuously and surprisingly. However, forming 3D-shape solid models in CAE and CAM, based on the research, the study leaves much to be desired. Especially, analyses and studies reverse-designing automatically using measured data after manufacturing. Consequently, we are going to acquire geometric data using an 3D scanner in this study with which we will open a new field of reverse engineering by a program whic hcan design a 3D-shape solid model in a CAD-based program automatically.

A 2-dimensional FEM/GEM program was developed under the plane strain assumption using linear line elements for analyzing stretch/draw forming operations of an arbitrarily shaped draw-die. FEM formulation adopted a new algorithm for solving force equilibrium as well as non-penetration condition simultaneously. Also, a rigid-viscoplastic material model with Hill's normal anisotropic yield condition and rate-sensitive hardening law is assumed, along with the Coulomb friction law in the contact regions. For the case of numerical divergence at nearly final forming stages, geometric force equilibrium method(GEM) is also introduced. The developed program was tested by simulating the forming processes of cylindrical punch/open die, and the drawing processes of automotive oilpan and hood inner panel in order to verify the usefulness and validity of FEM/GEM formulation. The numerical simulation verified the validity and robustness of developed program.
This study proposes 3D printed shoe designs with patterns made by reinterpreting traditional Korean muntin patterns as customized designs that are unique to individual consumers and different from existing products. In the fashion industry, shoes with diverse designs grafted with 3D printing technology have been introduced. Artistic 3D printed shoes showcase the unique designs of designers. Functional and practical 3D printed shoes that can be worn during daily activities and during exercise have been actively developed. Traditional Korean pattern designs are also being recreated into designs reflecting the aesthetic sense of modern times with our own identity. The uniqueness of the traditional muntin patterns in geometric shapes, such as intersections of lines, rectangles, and octagons, are expressed in shoe designs with modern aesthetic senses by utilizing the traditional patterns that conform well to the modern geometric beauty of forms. This study was intended to develop 3D shoe designs that reinterpreted the motif of muntin patterns from among traditional Korean geometric patterns with a modern aesthetic sense. The octagonal patterns that express the scenery of spring can be seen through the muntins in traditional Korean-style houses were designed on the heels of shoes. Utilizing the Rhino CAD program and ProJet 660 Pro 3D printer, shoes were designed and printed. The processes for making shoes using 3D printing technology proposed in this study are significant because they represent the creation of designs in a new area. The results of this study might help in the development of 3D printed fashion products.
