Development of infrastructure component libraries is a critical requirement for the accelerated adoption of BIM in the civil engineering sector. Libraries reduce the time for BIM model creation, allows accurate quantity take offs, and shared use of standard models in a project. However, such libraries are currently in very short supply in the domestic infrastructure domain. This research introduces library components for retaining walls and box culverts generated from 2D standard drawings made publicly available by MOLIT. Commercial BIM software was used to create the concrete geometry and rebar, and dimensional/volumetric parameters were defined to maximize the reuse and generality of the libraries. Use of the these libraries in a project context demonstrates that they allow accurate and quick quantity take offs, and easier management of geometric information through the use of a single library as to numerous 2D drawings. It also demonstrates the easy modification of the geometries of the components if and when they need to changed. However, the application also showed that some of the rebar components (stirrups and length wise rebars) do not get properly updated when concrete geometries are changed, demonstrating the limits of current software applications. The research provides evidence of the many advantages of using BIM libraries in the civil engineering, thus providing the incentive for further development of standard libraries and promoting the use of BIM in infrastructure projects.
A high degree of precision and accuracy in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery(GKRS) is a fundamental requirement for therapeutical success. Elaborate radiation delivery and dose gradients with the steep fall-off of radiation are clinically applied thus necessitating a dedicated Quality Assurance(QA) program in order to guarantee dosimetric and geometric accuracy and reduce all the risk factors that can occur in GKRS. In this study, as a part of QA we verified the accuracy of single-shot dose profiles used in the algorithm of Gamma Knife Perfexion(PFX) treatment planning system employing Variable Ellipsoid Modeling Technique(VEMT). We evaluated the dose distributions of single-shots in a spherical ABC phantom with diameter 160 mm on Gamma Knife PFX. The single-shots were directed to the center of ABC phantom. Collimating configurations of 4, 8, and 16 mm sizes along x, y, and z axes were studied. Gamma Knife PFX treatment planning system being used in GKRS is called Leksell GammaPlan(LGP) ver 10.1.1. From the verification like this, the accuracy of GKRS will be doubled. Then the clinical application must be finally performed based on precision and accuracy of GKRS. Specifically the width at the 50% isodose level, that is, Full-Width-of-Half-Maximum(FWHM) was verified under such conditions that a patient's head is simulated as a sphere with diameter 160mm. All the data about dose profiles along x, y, and z axes predicted through VEMT were excellently consistent with dose profiles from LGP within specifications(${\leq}1mm$ at 50% isodose level) except for a little difference of FWHM and PENUMBRA(isodose level: 20%~80%) along z axis for 4 mm and 8mm collimating configurations. The maximum discrepancy of FWHM was less than 2.3% at all collimating configurations. The maximum discrepancy of PENUMBRA was given for the 8 mm collimator along z axis. The difference of FWHM and PENUMBRA in the dose distributions obtained with VEMT and LGP is too small to give the clinical significance in GKRS. The results of this study are considered as a reference for medical physicists involved in GKRS in the whole world. Therefore we can work to confirm the validity of dose distributions for all collimating configurations determined through the regular preventative maintenance program using the independent verification method VEMT for the results of LGP and clinically assure the perfect treatment for patients of GKRS. Thus the use of VEMT is expected that it will be a part of QA that can verify and operate the system safely.
Driven by both environmental and economic reasons, the development of small to medium scale GTL(gas-to-liquid) process for offshore applications and for utilizing other stranded or associated gas has recently been studied increasingly. Microchannel GTL reactors have been prefrered over the conventional GTL reactors for such applications, due to its compactness, and additional advantages of small heat and mass transfer distance desired for high heat transfer performance and reactor conversion. In this work, multi-microchannel reactor was simulated by using commercial CFD code, ANSYS FLUENT, to study the geometric effect of the microchannels on the heat transfer phenomena. A heat generation curve was first calculated by modeling a Fischer-Tropsch reaction in a single-microchannel reactor model using Matlab-ASPEN integration platform. The calculated heat generation curve was implemented to the CFD model. Four design variables based on the microchannel geometry namely coolant channel width, coolant channel height, coolant channel to process channel distance, and coolant channel to coolant channel distance, were selected for calculating three dependent variables namely, heat flux, maximum temperature of coolant channel, and maximum temperature of process channel. The simulation results were visualized to understand the effects of the design variables on the dependent variables. Heat flux and maximum temperature of cooling channel and process channel were found to be increasing when coolant channel width and height were decreased. Coolant channel to process channel distance was found to have no effect on the heat transfer phenomena. Finally, total heat flux was found to be increasing and maximum coolant channel temperature to be decreasing when coolant channel to coolant channel distance was decreased. Using the qualitative trend revealed from the present study, an appropriate process channel and coolant channel geometry along with the distance between the adjacent channels can be recommended for a microchannel reactor that meet a desired reactor performance on heat transfer phenomena and hence reactor conversion of a Fischer-Tropsch microchannel reactor.

In order to geometrically correct high-resolution satellite imagery, the sensor modeling process that restores the geometric relationship between the satellite sensor and the ground surface at the image acquisition time is required. In general, high-resolution satellites provide RPC (Rational Polynomial Coefficient) information, but the vendor-provided RPC includes geometric distortion caused by the position and orientation of the satellite sensor. GCP (Ground Control Point) is generally used to correct the RPC errors. The representative method of acquiring GCP is field survey to obtain accurate ground coordinates. However, it is difficult to find the GCP in the satellite image due to the quality of the image, land cover change, relief displacement, etc. By using image maps acquired from various sensors as reference data, it is possible to automate the collection of GCP through the image matching algorithm. In this study, the RPC of KOMPSAT-3A satellite image was corrected through the extracted matching point using the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehichle) imagery. We propose a pre-porocessing method for the extraction of matching points between the UAV imagery and KOMPSAT-3A satellite image. To this end, the characteristics of matching points extracted by independently applying the SURF (Speeded-Up Robust Features) and the phase correlation, which are representative feature-based matching method and area-based matching method, respectively, were compared. The RPC adjustment parameters were calculated using the matching points extracted through each algorithm. In order to verify the performance and usability of the proposed method, it was compared with the GCP-based RPC correction result. The GCP-based method showed an improvement of correction accuracy by 2.14 pixels for the sample and 5.43 pixelsfor the line compared to the vendor-provided RPC. In the proposed method using SURF and phase correlation methods, the accuracy of sample was improved by 0.83 pixels and 1.49 pixels, and that of line wasimproved by 4.81 pixels and 5.19 pixels, respectively, compared to the vendor-provided RPC. Through the experimental results, the proposed method using the UAV imagery presented the possibility as an alternative to the GCP-based method for the RPC correction.

The current road traffic noise prediction programs of Korea, which are widely used, are based upon foreign prediction model. Thus, it is necessary to verify foreign prediction models to find out whether they are suitable for the domestic road traffic environment. In addition, an analysis and an in-depth study on the main factors should be conducted in advance as the influence factors on the occurrence of traffic noise vary for each prediction model. Therefore, this study examined the influence factors and the existing prediction models used to forecast road traffic noise. Also, analyzed their relationship with the factors influencing the noise generated by driving vehicles through multiple regression analysis using a prediction model, taking into consideration of the traffic environment and the road geometric structure. In addition, this study will apply experimental values to the existing road traffic noise prediction model (NIER, RLS-90) and the deducted road traffic noise prediction model. As a result, the order of the absolute value sum of the errors are NIER, RLS-90, model value. Through comparison and verification, developed models are to be analyzed for providing basic research results for future study on road traffic noise prediction modeling.
It should be accurate dose calculation to increase the efficiency of radiation therapy, and it is priority to figure out the beam characteristics for this purpose. The target and primary collimator in head components of the linear accelerator have the greatest influence on determining the beam characteristics which is caused by backscatter and it is the factor to consider the shielding structures and equipment management. In this study, we made modeling of the linear accelerator through the Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation and investigated backscatter according to the change of the size and shape in head components. For the scattered electrons, it showed the greatest number of distributions inside of the inner radius at primary collimator. But, for the scattered photons which have the high energy, it was mostly located outside of the inner radius at primary collimator. Scattered positrons showed a small occurrence in about 0.03%. According to the change of the inner radius at primary collimator, it was great changes in the inside of inner radius for all three scattered particles. According to the change of the outer radius at primary collimator, it was shown some considerable effects from more than 60 mm outer radius. It was no significant effect according to the change of target thickness. In this study, we found that backscatter should be considered, and figured out that geometric size and shape of the peripheral components are the factors that influences the backscatter effect.
In this paper, we propose a new technique of image based rendering(IBR) for the pose transformation of a face by using only a frontal face image and its mesh without a three-dimensional model. To substitute the 3D geometric model, first, we make up a standard mesh set of a certain person for several face sides ; front. left, right, half-left and half-right sides. For the given person, we compose only the frontal mesh of the frontal face image to be transformed. The other mesh is automatically generated based on the standard mesh set. And then, the frontal face image is geometrically transformed to give different view by using Invertible Meshwarp Algorithm, which is improved to tolerate the overlap or inversion of neighbor vertexes in the mesh. The same warping algorithm is used to generate the opening or closing effect of both eyes and a mouth. To evaluate the transformation performance, we capture dynamic images from 10 persons rotating their heads horizontally. And we measure the location error of 14 main features between the corresponding original and transformed facial images. That is, the average difference is calculated between the distances from the center of both eyes to each feature point for the corresponding original and transformed images. As a result, the average error in feature location is about 7.0% of the distance from the center of both eyes to the center of a mouth.
This study aims to quantify the distribution characteristics of the fracture system for the numerical modeling of groundwater flow in the north-eastern area of Yosu peninsula. The study area is composed mainly of volcanic rocks and granite. The regional and site scale lineament in the range of magnitude Order 1 to Order 3 were analyzed from the geologic map, air-photograph and shaded relief map. The geometric parameter of Order 4 fracture system was acquired from the scanline survey on the ground surface. There is a similar trend in the preferred orientation between the regional lineament and the Order 4 fracture system except the Set 4 of Order 4 fracture system which is not prominent in the type. That is classified to three fracture sat of high dip angle and one of ow dip angle. From the lineament trend. The orientation of Order 4 fracture system has similar characteristics in each rock termination mode analysis, it is considered that the fracture system was developed systematically and sequentially from Set 1 to Set 4 Filling materials are distinct relatively in low dip angle set. The fracture spacing follows to lognoral distribution and the fracture frequency corrected by the modified Terzaghi correction ranges from 0.38 to 1.01 per mater in each fracture set. The fracture trace lenght also follows to lognormal distribution and ranges from 2.9m to 3.7m in each fracture set.
Spar platforms have several advantages for deploying wind turbines in offshore for depth beyond 120 m. The merit of spar platform is large range of topside payloads, favourable motions compared to other floating structures and minimum hull/deck interface. The main objective of this paper is to present the response analysis of the slack moored spar platform supporting 5MW wind turbine with bottom keel plates in regular and random waves, studied experimentally and numerically. A 1:100 scale model of the spar with sparD, sparCD and sparSD configuration was studied in the wave basin ($30{\times}30{\times}3m$) in Ocean engineering department in IIT Madras. In present study the effect of wind loading, blade dynamics and control, and tower elasticity are not considered. This paper presents the details of the studies carried out on a 16 m diameter and 100 m long spar buoy supporting a 90 m tall 5 MW wind turbine with 3600 kN weight of Nacelle and Rotor and 3500 kN weight of tower. The weight of the ballast and the draft of the spar are adjusted in such a way to keep the centre of gravity below the centre of buoyancy. The mooring lines are divided into four groups, each of which has four lines. The studies were carried out in regular and random waves. The operational significant wave height of 2.5 m and 10 s wave period and survival significant wave height of 6 m and 18 s wave period in 300 m water depth are considered. The wind speed corresponding to the operational wave height is about 22 knots and this wind speed is considered to be operating wind speed for turbines. The heave and surge accelerations at the top of spar platform were measured and are used for calculating the response. The geometric modeling of spar was carried out using Multisurf and this was directly exported to WAMIT for subsequent hydrodynamic and mooring system analysis. The numerical results were compared with experimental results and the comparison was found to be good. Parametric study was carried out to find out the effect of shape, size and spacing of keel plate and from the results obtained from present work ,it is recommended to use circular keel plate instead of square plate.

The typical operating temperature of an automotive fuel cell is lower than that of an internal combustion engine, which necessitates a refined strategy for thermal management. In particular, the performance of the cooling module has to be higher for a fuel cell system because the temperature difference between the fuel cell and the surrounding is lower than in the case of the internal combustion engine. Even though the cooling system of an automotive fuel cell determines the operating temperature and temperature distribution of the fuel cell, it has attracted little research attention. This study presents the mathematical model of a cooling system for an automotive fuel cell system using Matlab/$Simulink^{(R)}$. In particular, a radiator model is developed for design optimization from the development stage to the operating stage for an automotive fuel cell. The cooling system model comprises a fan, pump, and radiator. The pump and fan model have an empirical relation, and the dynamics of the pump and fan are only explained by motor dynamics. The basic design study was conducted, and the geometric setup of the radiator was investigated. When the control logic was applied, the pump senses the coolant inlet temperature and the fan senses the coolant out temperature. Additionally, the cooling module is integrated with the fuel cell system model so that the performance of the cooling module can be investigated under realistic operating conditions.
