  • A reliability analysis method is proposed in this paper through a combination of the advantages of the response surface method (RSM), finite element method (FEM), first order reliability method (FORM) and the importance sampling updating method. The accuracy and efficiency of the method is demonstrated through several numerical examples. Then the method is used to estimate the serviceability reliability of cable-stayed bridges. Effects of geometric nonlinearity, randomness in loading, material, and geometry are considered. The example cable-stayed bridge is the Second Nanjing Bridge with a main span length of 628 m built in China. The results show that the cable sag that is part of the geometric nonlinearities of cable-stayed bridges has a major effect on the reliability of cable-stayed bridge. Finally, the most influential random variables on the reliability of cable-stayed bridges are identified by using a sensitivity analysis.

  • Generally, it is very difficult to inspect geometric shape of large 2D objects after machining. To maintain the accuracy for inspection, a robot vision is used to divide overall shape into several enlarged images, and image processing technique is applied to acquire one minute geometric contour. The inspection is to compare the NC data with the measured contour data by the vision system, and the algorithm is to rotate to minimize the maximum deviation after coinciding two geometric centers. This paper experimentally shows that the proposed algorithm is very useful for inspection of large machined objects.

  • As a former level of MSC(Multi Spectral Camera) telescope of the KOMPSA T2satellite, the several performance tests of EOS(Electro Optical Subsystem) were performed in the EOS level. By these tests, not only the design requirement of payload can be verified but also the test result can be the important criterion to estimate the performance of payload in the launch and space orbit environment. The EOS Geometric Mapping test is to verify the accuracy of the alignment & assembly on the Subsystem of the MSC by measurement like these; LOS(Line of Sight), LOD(Line of Detector), Band to Band Registration, Optical Distortion and Reference Cube. This paper describes the test results and the analysis for the EOS Geometric Mapping.

  • In this study, a simple approach for bending analysis of Reissner-Mindlin plates is presented using the four-node quadrilateral domain transformation based on discrete singular convolution. In the proposed approach, irregular physical domain is transformed into a rectangular domain by using the geometric coordinate transformation. The DSC procedures are then applied to discrete the governing equations and boundary conditions. The accuracy of the proposed method is verified by comparison with known solutions obtained by other numerical or analytical methods. Results for Reissner-Mindlin plates show a satisfactory agreement with the analytical and numerical solutions.

  • The form accuracy of parts has become an important parameter. Therefore dimensional tolerance and geometric tolerance are used in design to satisfy required quility and functions of parts. But the informations for machining conditions, which can satisfy the assigned geometric tolerance in design, are insufficient. The objectives of this research are to study the effects of the grinding parameters such as traverse speed, work speed, depth of cut, and dwell time on the after-ground workpiece shape, and to find out the major parameters among these parameters. Finally, a methodology is proposed for getting the optimal grinding condition for precision workpiece The results are as follows; The effects of work speed and depth of cut on workpiece shape are ignorable compared to the effect of traverse speed. These is the optimal dwell time depending on the traverse speed. The optimal dwell time is decreasing when the traverse speed is increased.

  • A new linkage framework between elastic shell element with finite rotation and computar-aided geometric design (CAGD) (or surface is developed in the present study. The framework of shell finite element is based on the generalized curved two-parametric coordinate system. To represent free-form surface, cubic B-spline tensor-product functions are used. Thus the present finite element can be directly linked into the geometric modeling produced by surface generation tool in CAD software. The efficiency and accuracy of the Previously developed linear elements hold for the nonlinear element with finite rotations. To handle the finite rotation behavior of shells, exponential mapping in the SO(3) group is employed to allow the large incremental step size. The integrated frameworks of shell geometric design and nonlinear computational analysis can serve as an efficient tool in shape and topological design of surfaces with large deformations.

  • The geometriccorrection of a satellite imagery is performed by making a systematic correction with satellite ephemerides and attitude angles followed by employing the Ground Control Points (GCSs) or Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). In a remote area or an inaccessible area, however, GCPs are unavailable to be surveyed and thus they can be obtained only by reading maps, which are not accurate in reality. In this study, we performed the systematic correction process to the inaccessible area and the precise geometric correction process to the adjacent accessible area by using GCPs. Then we analyzed the correlation between the two geo-referenced Korea Multiurpose Satellite (KOMPSAT-1 EOC) images. A new geometrical correction for the inaccessible area imagery is achieved by applying the correlation to the inaccessibleimagery. By employing this new method, the accuracy of the inaccessible area imagery is significantly improved absolutely and relatively.

  • A ground control point (GCP) is a point on the surface of Earth where image coord inates and map coordinates can be identified. The GCP is useful for the geometric correction of systematic and unsystematic errors usually contained in a remotely sensed data. Especially in case of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data, it has serious geometric distortions caused by inherent side looking geometry. In addition, SAR images are usually severely corrupted by speckle noises so that it is difficult to identify ground control points. We developed a ground point extraction algorithm that has an improved capability. An application of radargrammetry to Daejon area in Korea was studied to acquire the geometric information. For the ground control point extraction algorithm, an ERS SAR data with precise Delft orbit information and rough digital elevation model (DEM) were used. We analyze the accuracy of the results from our algorithm by using digital map and GPS survey data.
