We performed DInSAR (Differential Interferometric SAR) and SBAS (Small BAseline Subset) analysis using spaceborne SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) in order to detect a surface subsidence in Taebaek area, Kangwon, which are suitable to the monitoring of broad and inaccessible areas. During the period from October 2006 to June 2010, we acquired twenty-three ALOS PALSAR data sets (path/frame=425/730) for this study. The ninety-six differential interferograms with a perpendicular baseline less than 1100 m were constructed by ROI_PAC, then the mean velocity map of surface displacement was derived from SBAS analysis. As a result, it was confirmed that the ground displacement occurred about 4 cm/yr at Seokgong-Jangseong and Kyungdong mines and 2 cm/yr at Saehan-Eoryong-Jungdong and Hwangji mines in Taebaek area, Kangwon. It seems that the subsidence in study area is closely related to mining activities because the most of subsiding areas are well matched with mining areas. The subsidence at Kyungdong mine shows continuous and fast velocity in about $2{\times}2$ km area. Therefore the further analysis and the effort to prevent disaster are required in this area.
Since the radar satellite missions such as TerraSAR-X and COSMO-SkyMed were launched in 2007, the spatial resolution of spaceborne SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) images reaches about 1 meter at spotlight mode. In 2011, the first Korean SAR satellite, KOMPSAT-5, will be launched, operating at X-band with the highest spatial resolution of 1 m as well. The improved spatial resolution of state-of-the-art SAR sensor suggests expanding InSAR(Interferometric SAR) analysis in urban monitoring. By the way, the shadow and layover phenomena are more prominent in urban areas due to building structure because of inherent side-looking geometry of SAR system. Up to date the most conventional algorithms do not consider the return signals at the frontage of building during InSAR phase and SAR intensity simulation. In this study the new algorithm introducing multi-scattering in layover region is proposed for phase and intensity simulation, which is utilized a precise LIDAR DSM(Digital Surface Model) in urban areas. The InSAR phases simulated by the proposed method are compared with TerraSAR-X spotlight data. As a result, both InSAR phases are well matched, even in layover areas. This study will be applied to urban monitoring using high resolution SAR data, in terms of change detection and displacement monitoring at the scale of building unit.
The quantitative landslide susceptibility assessment methods can be divided into statistical approaches and geomechanical approaches based on the consideration of the triggering factors and landslide models. The geomechanical approach is considered as one of the most effective approaches since this approach proposes physical slope model and considers geomorphological and geomechanical properties of slope materials. Therefore, the geomechanical approaches has been used widely in landslide susceptibility analysis using the infinite slope model as physical slope model. However, the previous studies assumed constant groundwater level for broad study area without the consideration of rainfall intensity and hydraulic properties of soil materials. Therefore, in this study, landslide susceptibility assessment was implemented using the coupled infinite slope model with hydrologic model. For the analysis, geomechanical and hydrualic properties of slope materials and rainfall intensity were measured from the soil samples which were obtained from field investigation. For the practical application, the proposed approach was applied to Jinbu area, Gangwon-Do which was experienced large amount of landslides in July 2006. In order to compare to the proposed approach, the previous approach was used to analyze the landslide susceptibility using randomly selected groundwater level. Comparison of the results shows that the accuracy of the proposed method was improved with the consideration of the hydrologic model.

It is well-known that even the DGNSS (Differential Global Navigation Satellite System) technique in navigation for ground vehicles can only provide several meters of accuracy, such that it is suitable for simple guidance. On the other hand, centimeter to millimeter level accuracy can be obtained by using carrier phase observables in the field of precision geodesy/surveying. In this study, a preliminary study was conducted to apply NRTK (Network-RTK) by NGII (National Geographic Information Institute) to ground vehicle navigation. Onboard GNSS receivers were used for NRTK throughout the country, and the applicability of NRTK on navigation was analyzed based on NRTK surveying results. The analysis shows that the overall ambiguity fixing rate of NRTK is high and is therefore possible to apply it for navigation. In urban areas, however, the fixing rate decreases sharply, therefore, it needs to employ a method to minimize the effect of the float solutions, which can reach up to 10 meters. It is still feasible to obtain a centimeter level of accuracy in some area using NRTK under certain conditions. But, the ambiguity fixing rate of FKP falls down to 55% for high speed vehicles, and so the surveying accuracy should be determined by considering various factors of surveying environments. In addition, it is difficult to fix ambiguities using single-frequency GPS receivers. Finally, several suspicious NRTK(FKP) connection problems occurred during atmospheric disturbances (phase two or up), which should be investigated further in upcoming research.
The high-resolution X-band SAR systems such as COSMO-SkyMED and TerraSAR-X have been launched recently. In addition KOMPSAT-5 will be launched in the early of 2012. In this study we developed the new method for persistent scatterer candidate (PSC) selection and network construction, which is more suitable for PSInSAR analysis using multi-temporal X-band SAR data. PSC selection consists in two main steps: first, selection of initial PSCs based on amplitude dispersion index, mean amplitude, mean coherence. second, selection of final PSCs based on temporal coherence directly estimated from network analysis of initial PSCs. To increase the stability of network the Multi- TIN and complex network for non-urban area were addressed as well. The proposed algorithm was applied to twenty-one TerraSAR-X SAR of New Orleans. As a result many PSs were successfully extracted even in non-urban area. This research can be used as the practical application of KOMPSAT-5 for surface displacement monitoring using X-band PSInSAR.
The CHIME (chemical Th-U-total Pb isochron method) dating on monazite was carried out for two foliated granites from a dextral ductile shear zone in the vicinity of Gangjin area, which is considered to be a southern extension of Sunchang shear zone. The result gives emplacement age of the medium-grained biotite granite and the coarse-grained biotite granite as $183.6{\pm}2.2Ma$(MSWD=0.21) and $171.7{\pm}4.0Ma$(MSWD=0.57), respectively. Microtextures of quartz and feldspar observed in the foliated granite are almost identical with those reported in Jurassic (ca 180 Ma) foliated granites from the Imsil-Namwon area of the Sunchang shear zone, and they constraint that the ductile deformation took place at temperature condition of $300{\sim}550^{\circ}C$. Assuming cooling curves of the foliated granites in this study are similar with those of Jurassic foliated granites from Imsil-Namwon area, dextral ductile shear in the Gangjin area would take place between 172 Ma and 150 Ma, about 10 Ma later than the previous estimation based on CHIME monazite ages.
We carried on CHIME zircon age dating for the Gamaksan alkaline meta-granitoid (GAM) from the northwestern margin of the Gyeonggi massif, and obtained a timing of regional metamorphism at $247{\pm}14Ma$ (n=103, MSWD=0.92). The age is compatible with Permo-Triassic regional metamorphic ages from the Imjingang Belt which has been regarded as possible eastward extension of Triassic collisional belt in China. Considering an extensional ductile shearing of the Gyeonggi (Kyonggi) Shear Zone which deformed GAM occurred at 226 Ma with temperature condition about $500^{\circ}C$ (Kim et al., 2000), and the Late Triassic to Early Jurassic Daedong Group unconformably overlies on top of the ductile shear zone, cooling rate of GAM over the period can be estimated as $18{\sim}10^{\circ}C/Ma$. Since new zircon begin to pow at temperature higher than upper-amphibolite facies condition (${\sim}700^{\circ}C$), cooling rate of GAM from peak metamorphism (247 Ma) to deposition of the Daedong G.oup (${\sim}$Early Jurassic) would be higher than $10^{\circ}C/Ma$. Such rapid cooling rate is compatible with that reported from exhumation stage of the Dabie-Sulu Belt, and supports an idea that the Gyeonngi massif is a part of Permo-Triassic orogenic belt in East Asia.
Recently indoor navigation with indoor map such as Indoor Google Maps is served. For the services, constructing indoor data are required. CityGML and IFC are widely used as standards for representing indoor data. The data models contains spatial information for the indoor visualization and analysis, but indoor navigation requires semantic and topological information like graph as well as geometry. For this reason, IndoorGML, which is a GML3 application schema and data model for representation, storage and exchange of indoor geoinformation, is under standardization of OGC. IndoorGML can directly describe geometric property and refer elements in external documents. Because a lot of data in CityGML or IFC have been constructed, a huge amount of construction time and cost for IndoorGML data will be reduced if CityGML can help generate data in IndoorGML. Thus, this paper suggest practical use of CityGML including deriving from and link to CityGML. We analyze relationships between IndoorGML and CityGML. In this paper, issues and solutions for linkage of IndoorGML and CityGML are addressed.
The stability of rock slope is mainly controlled by the orientation and shear strength of discontinuties in rock mass. Therefore, in kinematic analysis, the orientation of the combination of discontinuities and slope face is examined to determine if certain modes of failure can be occurred. In previous kinematic analysis, a representative orientation of the slope face and mean orientation of discontinuity set were used as input parameters. However, since the orientations of slope face varies according to locations of measurement, the representative slope face orientation could cause misunderstanding for kinematic instability. In addition, since the orientations of each discontinuity are scattered in the same discontinuity set, there is the possibility that uncertainties are involved in the procedure of kinematic analysis. Therefore, in this study, the detailed digital topographic map was used to obtain the orientation of slope face. In addition, the probabilistic analysis approach was utilized to deal properly with the uncertainties in discontinuity orientation. The proposed approach was applied to steep slopes in mountain road located in Baehuryeong, Chunncheon city, Gangwon-Do. The analysis results obtained from the deterministic and probabilistic analysis were compared to check the feasibility of proposed the analysis.
The analysis of heavy metals associated with both PM2.5 and PM10 fraction of aerosols was made from a northeast region of Seoul during the spring period of 2001. The mean concentrations of fine (PM2.5), coarse (PM10-PM2.5), and PM10 fraction were observed as 49.3${\pm}$29.2, 50.5${\pm}$35.0, and 95.5${\pm}$46.1 ${\mu}g$/m$^3$, respectively during this study period. According to the results of enrichment factor (EF) analysis between different particle fractions, major elements (including Fe, Ca, Na, and K) were found to exhibit EF values of less than 10. However, heavy metal components (like Zn and Pb) showed very high EF values. Comparison of fine/coarse (F/C) concentration ratio showed that Zn, Cr, Pb, and Ni have higher ratio values than others. The metallic composition of particles was also compared on both absolute and relative terms. The results of our analysis showed an evidence that the increase in the total metallic contents is prominent during the spring period due mostly to the Asian Dust event.
