  • It can be classified in various methods to get the geoidal heights. It can be achieved geometric geoidal heights if we do GPS surveying in leveling point. The aims of this paper are calculation of geometric geoidal heights using GPS/leveling data in study area and evaluation of the global and local geoid models in and around Korean peninsula. For this study, study area was selected in the leveling line from Kunsan to Chonju city and GPS surveying was accomplished in the leveling line. And, also spherical harmonic analysis was made on the three global geopotential models, OSU91A, EGM96, EGM96m under same condition and KOGD2002, Korean gravimetric geoid model was made in this study The results shows that EGM96m is the best model because the differences between geoidal heights of EGM96m and geometric geoidal heights of GPS/Leveling data appear the smallest value among them.

The results shows that EGM96m is the best model because the differences between geoidal heights of E6M96m and geometric geoidal heights of GPS/Leveling data appear the smallest value among them.

  • Geoid is the equi-gravity potential surface. Gravimetric geoidal heights could be determined by the gravity observation values and geometric geoidal heights could be determined by the GPS ellipsoidal heights at benchmark station. In this study, both gravimetric geoidal heights and geometric geoidal heights were determined and compared in mountainous area. For the study, GPS surveying and gravity observation were accomplished at 1st and 2nd order levelling network located in mountainous area in Kyungsanbukdo and Chollanamdo.

  • In order to calculate geoidal height refered to Bessel ellipsoid, methods to translate geoidal heights from a certain coordinate system to an arbitrary system with the corresponding ellipsoid are studied. and geoidal heights refered to Bessel ellipsoid were computed from EGM96 Model refered to GRS80 using iteration method pro-posed in this paper. Transformation parameters between WGS84 and Bessel were calculated using geoidal heights computed from iteration method. The result of coordinate transformation(standard deviation) were 0.009 second in latitude and 0.006 in longitude and 0.393m in orthometric height.

  • In geoid modelling field, it is very important the GPS/leveling data because it could be check-out the accuracy of gravimetric geoid and computed the hybrid geoid. In this study, GPS surveying was accomplished in the test area including mountainous area to improve the GPS/leveling data density in Korea. And the geometric geoidal heights was calculated using the GPS/leveling data in the test area and the accuracy of the geoidal heights was analyzed. For this study, GPS surveying was accomplished on the 211 1st and 2nd order benchmarks in Gyeongbuk province and 198 GPS/leveling data were achieved after both baseline analysis and network adjustment. Geometric geoidal heights were calculated using these 198 GPS/leveling data and the accuracy analysis was done by comparison with the geoidal heights from EGM2008 geopotential model. The results showed that the bias and standard deviation computed from 190 GPS/leveling data after gross removal was -0.185$\pm$0.079m. And also, the accuracy analyses according to the benchmark order, baseline length, and altitude were accomplished.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of coordinate transformation between the WGS84 and the Bessel ellipsoids according to the assumed values of the geoidal height on Bessel ellipsoid at the geodetic datum origin of Korea were investigated. For this, based on GPS data of 11 control points in Chungnam and Chungbuk province, the mean shift values between ellipsoids were calculated in each case. The geoidal heights on the Bessel ellipsoid were modelled in the area and the coordinate transformation coefficients were derived, and then the accuracy of the transformed coordinates according to fluctuations in geoidal heights were studied.

  • Astronomic surveying has been regarded as an important method for absolute positioning of geodetic datum in each countries under the local geodetic reference system. The purposes of this study are to determine astrogeodetic geoidal heights referred to Bessel ellipsoid and to determine deflection of the vertical and geoidal heights referred to GRS80 of World Geodetic System by astronomic surveying data which have been surveyed after 1970 in Korea. The results show that $\xi$ component of the deflection of the vertical distribute from -5.725" to 8.005" and $\eta$ component distribute from -14.917" to 6.2" and astrogeodrtic geoidal heights distribute from 23 m to 27 m in the study area. Also, we could see that GRS80 was more optimal ellipsoid than Bessel 1841 ellipsoid to Korea through comparing both astrogeotic geoidal heights referred to GRS80 and Bessel 1841 ellipsoid.

  • This paper deals with the geoid modelling in and around Korean peninsula referred to Bessel ellipsoid. Several useful data were used to compute precise geoidal heights referred to GRS80 by remove and restore technique and FFT technique was used to evaluate Stokes' integral. All grid point elevations extracted from GTOPO 30 and Bessel coordinates of all grid point were computed through coordinates transformation by applying three transformation parameters. Finally, geoidal heights referred to Bessel ellipsoid were calculated by geometric method. As the results of this study, a precise gravimetric geoid model referred to GRS80 (KOGGDM33) and geoid model referred to Bessel ellipsoid(KOBGDM33) in and around Korean peninsula were developed. KOBGDM33 shows the gradual distribution of geoidal heights from -91.8 m in Yongampo to -39.0 m in the straits of Korea.

  • Geopotential models were used to determine the reference surface in geoid modelling and until now, OSU91A model has been most widely used in the world. But what so called EGM96, GSFC/DMA geopotential model published in the latter half of the 1996 by GSFC/DMA project. In this paper, we intended to compare the results of spherical harmonic analyses using the both geopotential model and the spherical harmonic analyses performed up to degree and order 300 and the gravimetric geoidal heights considering gravity data on each $3'\times{3'}$ grid point in and around Korean peninsula. The results showed that the average geoidal height of study area computed from EGM96 is larger 0.40 m than that computed from OSU91A and the gravimetric geoidal heights us-ing EGM96 is larger 0.35 m than that using OSU91A model.

  • Many countries have changed her geodetic reference system from local system to global system because of the global network's necessity And, also Korean geodetic reference system changed from Tokyo datum to Global geodetic reference system since 2003 as the revision of Survey Law and Korean reference ellipsoid changed from Bessel 1841 ellipsoid to GRS80. Astronomic surveying has been regarded as an important method for absolute positioning of geodetic datum in each countries under the local geodetic reference system. This paper aims to analyses distribution of geoidal heights and ellipsoidal agreement between Bessel 1841 and GRS80 ellipsoid in Korea through comparing both astrogeotic geoidal heights referred to GRS80 and Bessel 1841 ellipsoid by astronomic surveying data which have been surveyed after 1970 in Korea.
