  • The purpose of this study is to identify land use types and to develop and evaluate biotope maps for Gangseo-Gu (ward) in Busan Metropolitan City, South Korea, using the Degree of Hemeroby. Hemeroby is a measurement concept or tool to assess the magnitude of human impact on ecosystems. Gangseo-Gu is the second largest Gu in Busan and is under strong development pressure. Before the field survey, biotopes were pre-classified based on digital maps, aerial photos and high-resolution satellite images. The method employed in biotope survey and mapping was adopted from the modified method used in Seoul, which carried out the first biotope mapping in Korea in 2000. In the field survey, a comprehensive biotope mapping method was used. The results showed that the total surface area of biotopes in Gangseo-gu was $172,620,207m^2$(42,655 acres) and there were 29 biotope types with 13,631 polygons. The ratio of urban or built-up area 22.6% and the remaining areas were forest and open spaces, of which 22.6% were actual forest areas and 35.6% were paddy fields and other field areas. The Hemeroby Index of Gangseo-gu was 54.7, which suggests that Gangseo-gu has not yet been developed extensively and needs a long-term conservation and coordinated development plan.

  • In this study, landslide of debris flow occurred at 51 sites around Daeryounsan located in between Chuncheon-si and Hongcheon-gun during July in 2013 were investigated in field and behavior characteristics of debris flow were analyzed on the basis of records of rainfall and site investigation. According to debris flow types of channelized and hill slope, location and slope angle of initiation and deposit zone, and width and depth of erosion were investigated along entire runout of debris flow. DEM(Digital Elevation Model) of Daeryounsan was constructed with digital map of 1:5,000 scale. Land slide hazard was estimated using SINMAP(Stability INdex MAPping) and the predicted results were compared with field sites where debris flow occurred. As analyzed results, for hill slope type of debris flow, predicted sites were quite comparable to actual sites. On the other hand, for channelized type of debris flow, debris flow occurrence sites were predicted by using stability index associated with topographic wetness index. As analyzed results of 4 different conditions with the parameter T/R, Hydraulic transmissivity/Effective recharge rate, proposed by NRCS (Natual Resources Conservation Service), predicted results showed more or less different actual sites and the degree of hazard tended to increase with decrease of T/R value.

  • In this study, multi-image information for the central Taewha River basin was used to develop and analyze a distribution map of non-point pollution sources. The data were collected using a hyper-sensor (image), aerial photography, and a field spectro-radiometer. An image correction process was performed for each image to develop an ortho-image. In addition, the spectra from the field spectro-radiometer measurements were analyzed for each classification to create land cover and distribution maps of non-point pollutant sources. In the western region of the Taewha River basin, where most of the forest and agricultural land is distributed, the distribution map showed generated loads for BOD($kg/km^2{\times}day$) of 1.0 - 2.3, for TN($kg/km^2{\times}day$) of 0.06 - 9.44, and for TP($kg/km^2{\times}day$) of 0.03 - 0.24, which were low load distributions. In the eastern region where urbanization is in progress, the BOD, TN, and TP were 85.9, 13.69, and 2.76, respectively and these showed relatively high load distributions when the land use was classified by plot.

  • This study estimates how soil loss in a basin has been occurred according to the change of land cover, and analyzes which type of land cover has the largest soil loss by classifying the land-cover type into each area and a whole basin. Musimcheon, the second branch stream of GeumGang, is chosen as a research area. The result of analysis shows that the average soil loss occurs most largely in a crop land and a paddy field. The yearly soil loss of watershed estimates approximately 14,000 ton/yr in case of using 100-year-frequency rainfall data. A forest area, which takes the largest area in watershed, shows the soil loss occurs approximately 1,000ton/yr. A crop field shows that soil loss increased most largely 4,900 ton/yr (34.6%) in 1985 to 8,100 ton/yr (56.1%) in 2000. The change of land cover in a crop land increased 8% to 14%, and this change influences on the increase of soil loss. As a result of analyzing the area over $200ton/km^2/yr$, the soil loss in a crop field accounts for 74% to 96%.

  • 3D Geo-spatial information models have been widely used in the field of Civil Engineering, Medical, Computer Graphics, Urban Management and many other. Especially, in surveying and geo-spatial field, the demand for high quality 3D geospatial information and indoor spatial information is so highly increasing. However, it is so difficult to provide a low-cost and high efficiency service to the field which demand the highest quality of 3D model, because pre-constructed spatial data are composed of different formats and storage structures according to the application purpose of each institutes. In fact, the techniques to construct a high applicable 3D geo-spatial model is very expensive to collect and analyze geo-spatial data, but most demanders of 3D geo-spatial model never want to pay the high-cost to that. This study, therefore, suggest the effective way to construct 3D geo-spatial model with low-cost of construction. In general, the effective way to reduce the cost of constructing 3D geo-spatial model as presented in previous studies is to combine the raw data obtained from point cloud observatory and UAV imagery, however this method has some limitation of usage from difficulties to approve the use of raw data because of those have been managed separately by various institutes. To solve this problem, we developed the linking & management system for unifying a high-Resolution raw geo-spatial data based on the point cloud DB and apply this system to extract the basic database from 3D geo-spatial mode for the road database registration. As a result of this study, it can be provided six contents of main entries for road registration by applying the developed system based on the point cloud DB.

  • The trend of physical oceanography research in Korea till 1992 is briefly described. Research papers and activities are reviewed and classified according to the research field and geographic area. so this work ca be served as a reference in planning future researches and surveys. Most of the research areas are confined to the nearshore around the Korean Peninsula and the research field do not extend far beyond the classic subjects of physical properties of water masses and tides. etc. Future researches should thus be oriented to the basin-scale circulation aiming at the national oceanographic tasks such as the formation of the Tsushima Warm current, circulation in the Yellow-East china Seas, and three dimensional circulation of the East (Japan) Sea.

  • Satellite imagery is generally used for investigating the damage from natural disaster for wide area and remotely piloted vehicle or aerial photos are used for the local damage. But for more detailed information such as damages of public facilities, these methods are inadequate and so in this case field surveying has been carried out. We tried to estimate the damage of public facilities faster and more accurately using photogrammetric method. We developed a digital stereo camera system by fixing two digital cameras on a frame, and with this system the photos of actually damaged areas were collected. The damages were estimated from these stereo photos. Then the estimated data was compared with field surveying data in order to verify our system.

  • A total of 30L monocytogenes strains from different sources including 13 strains isolated from the foreign imported meat were genotyped in order to establish their genetic relatedness and to compare them with the foreign isolates. PFGE analysis of genomic DNA showed the $11\~16$ fragments ranging in size from 38 to 504 kb. Eleven different PFGE types $(1\~11)$ were identified in the dendrogram at $75\%$ similarity, and the two major PFGE types, type 1 and 2, contained $94\%$ of domestic isolates (16/17). All isolates from domestic beef and pork carcass were grouped in each different type, however, isolates from chicken were clustered together with those from pork and beef. We also found all foreign strains were unrelated with each other, regardless of geographic criteria and that they could be differentiated from those from the domestic isolates by PFGE pattern. The PFGE pattern of one isolate from chicken wing, which the chicken meat was found to be imported from foreign country, was closely related to that of isolate from the Thailand.

  • It is well known that GPS technique can be used for high accuracy leveling positioning if a precise geoid model is available to use at a surveying point. In this study, KOGD2003 geoid model was developed in and around Korean peninsula and this geoid model could be achieved by combining GPS/leveling data with the formerly developed KOGD2002. To this end, the software for orthometric height obtaining and geodetic datum transformation has been implemented with the visual C++ language, what we called GPS-GeoL v.1.0. In order to evaluate the performance and the accuracy of the software, GPS field tests were carried out in the Korean second-order leveling network over Chollabukdo area. Results of the tests have shown that the mean value of the differences between outputs of the software developed in this research and officially announced orthometric heights by NGII (National Geographic Information Institute) was 0.0221 m and also those of RMS was 0.0332 m. Therefore, it was possible to conclude that the KOGD2003 and GPS-GeoL v.1.0 software could be used to determine orthometric heights for civil construction field applications with cm-level accuracy.

  • Recent abnormal climate change induces localized heavy rainfall and extreme disasters such as debris flow near urban area. Thus many researches have been conducted to estimate and prevent, especially in focus of physical behavior of debris flow. Even though it is hardly to consider overall related parameters to estimate the extent and degree of directly or indirectly damages due to debris flow. Those analytic restraint would be caused by the diversity and complexity of regional topographic and hydrodynamic characteristics of debris flow inside. We have utilized the Bayesian method to compensate the uncertainty due to the complex characteristics of it after analyzing the numerical results from FLO-2D and field measurement data. Revised values by field measurements will enhance the numerical results and the missing parameters during numerical simulation will be supplemented with this methodology. As a final outcome in this study, the risk index of debris flow damage will be suggested to provide quantitative estimation in terms of hazard protection including the impact on buildings, especially in inner and outer of urban area.
