This study tried to analyze error range and resolution of drone images using a rotary wing by comparing them with field measurement results and to analyze stands patterns in actual vegetation map preparation by comparing drone images with aerial images provided by National Geographic Information Institute of Korea. A total of 11 ground control points (GCPs) were selected in the area, and coordinates of the points were identified. In the analysis of aerial images taken by a drone, error per pixel was analyzed to be 0.284 cm. Also, digital elevation model (DEM), digital surface model (DSM), and orthomosaic image were abstracted. When drone images were comparatively analyzed with coordinates of ground control points (GCPs), root mean square error (RMSE) was analyzed as 2.36, 1.37, and 5.15 m in the direction of X, Y, and Z. Because of this error, there were some differences in locations between images edited after field measurement and images edited without field measurement. Also, drone images taken in the stream and the forest and 51 and 25 cm resolution aerial images provided by the National Geographic Information Institute of Korea were compared to identify stands patterns. To have a standard to classify polygons according to each aerial image, image analysis software (eCognition) was used. As a result, it was analyzed that drone images made more precise polygons than 51 and 25 cm resolution images provided by the National Geographic Information Institute of Korea. Therefore, if we utilize drones appropriately according to characteristics of subject, we can have advantages in vegetation change survey and general monitoring survey as it can acquire detailed information and can take images continuously.

Oryzias latipes and Oryzias sinensis are indigenous species found in Japan, China, and other East Asian countries, including Korea. Based on morphological differences, the species have been classified distinctly. However, the range of morphological characters such as the number of gill rakers, vertebrae, and spots on the lateral body overlaps and is too vague for clear identification, so their classification based on their morphological characteristics remains uncertain. In this study, the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) gene, which is used for DNA barcoding, was applied to clarify interspecific variation of O. latipes and O. sinensis. Intraspecific genetic diversity was calculated to identify correlations with geographic distributions. We studied two species collected from 55 locations in Korea. All individuals carried a 679-base pair gene without deletion or insertion. Between species, 525 base pairs of the gene were shared. The Kimura two parameter (K2P) distance of O. latipes and O. sinensis was 0.41% and 1.39%, respectively. Mean divergence within genera was 23.5%. Therefore, the species were clearly different. The distance between O. latipes and O. sinensis was 14.0%, which is the closest within genera. Interestingly O. latipes from the Japanese and Korean group represented 16.5% distant. These results were derived from geohistorical and anthropogenic environmental factors. The O. latipes haplotypes were joined in only one group, but O. sinensis was divided into two groups, one is found in the Han River and upper Geum River watershed; the other is found in the remaining South Korean watersheds. Further studies will address the causes for geographic speciation of O. sinensis haplotypes.

This paper discusses the design of location optimization visualization and feasibility of 3 dimensional visualization techniques. In generic GIS visualization of location analysis, 2 dimensional visualization techniques have been used to map location elements and model solution, such as displaying demand and supply points, drawing connecting lines(e. g. spider line) of optimal locations to their demands, and representing density of location variations. Nevertheless, current GIS and location analysis literatures have little attentions in 3D visualization applications for location optimization problems. Previous research has been neglected 3D visualization of solution performances and its evaluation of solution quality. Consequently, this paper demonstrates potential benefits of 3D visualization techniques and its appropriate GIS applications for location optimization analysis. The visualization effectiveness of 3D approaches is examined in terms of spatial accessibility, and solution performance of optimal location models is evaluated. Finally, this paper proposes extensive 3D visualization perspectives for location analysis and GIS research as a further research agenda.
When analyzing geographical phenomena, two properties need to be considered. One is the spatial dependence structure and the other is a variation or an uncertainty inhibited in a geographic space. Two problems are encountered due to the properties. Firstly, spatial dependence structure, which is conceptualized as spatial autocorrelation, generates heterogeneous geographic landscape in a spatial process. Secondly, generic statistics, although suitable for dealing with stochastic uncertainty, tacitly ignores location information im plicit in spatial data. GIS is a versatile tool for manipulating locational information, while spatial statistics are suitable for investigating spatial uncertainty. Therefore, integrating spatial statistics to GIS is considered as a plausible strategy for appropriately understanding geographic phenomena of interest. Geographic hot-spot analysis is a key tool for identifying abnormal locations in many domains (e.g., criminology, epidemiology, etc.) and is one of the most prominent applications by utilizing the integration strategy. The article aims at reviewing spatial statistical perspective for analyzing spatial processes in the framework of GIS by carrying out empirical analysis. Illustrated is the analysis procedure of using spatial scan statistic for detecting clusters in the framework of GIS. The empirical analysis targets for identifying spatial clusters of breast cancer incidents in Erie and Niagara counties, New York.

Landslides are major natural geological hazards that result in a large amount of property damage each year, with both direct and indirect costs. Many researchers have produced landslide susceptibility maps using various techniques over the last few decades. This paper presents the landslide susceptibility results from the geographically weighted regression model using remote sensing and geographic information system data for landslide susceptibility in the Inje area of South Korea. Landslide locations were identified from aerial photographs. The eleven landslide-related factors were calculated and extracted from the spatial database and used to analyze landslide susceptibility. Compared with the global logistic regression model, the Akaike Information Criteria was improved by 109.12, the adjusted R-squared was improved from 0.165 to 0.304, and the Moran’s I index of this analysis was improved from 0.4258 to 0.0553. The comparisons of susceptibility obtained from the models show that geographically weighted regression has higher predictive performance.
The purpose of this study is to reveal the spatial relationship between landslides and geospatial data set and to map the landslide susceptibility using this relationship, and the landslide occurrence data in Kangneung area in 2002. Landslide locations were identified from interpretation of satellite images. Landslide susceptibility was analyzed using an artificial neural network. The weights of each factor were determined by the back-propagation training method. Susceptibility maps were constructed from Geographic Information System (GIS), The cases were overlaid and cross overlaid for landslide susceptibility mapping in each study area in Kangneung.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the hazard of landslides at Penang, Malaysia, using a Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing. Landslide locations were identified in the study area from interpretation of aerial photographs and from field surveys. Topographical and geological data and satellite images were collected, processed, and constructed into a spatial database using GIS and image processing. The factors chosen that influence landslide occurrence were: topographic slope, topographic aspect, topographic curvature and distance from drainage, all from the topographic database; lithology and distance from lineament, taken from the geologic database; land use from TM satellite images; and the vegetation index value from SPOT satellite images. Landslide hazardous area were analysed and mapped using the landslide-occurrence factors by logistic regression model. The results of the analysis were verified using the landslide location data and compared with probabilistic model. The validation results showed that the logistic regression model is better prediction accuracy than probabilistic model.
A grid computing environment is one in which applications can be built over multiple resource nodes at widespread geographic locations. Grid environments seek to integrate and enable access to widely distributed compute resources. The compute resources in a grid environment are typically heterogeneous, with varying qualify and availability Hence, how computations are allocated to individual resources is extremely important in the design of a grid. This paper j\ulcorners concerned with resource management for metacomputing. We describe a resource management architecture using the two-level resource broker.
This paper is concerned with the development of the silk trade and in particular with silk-ikat production. Early origins are explained and issues relating to the development of long-distance trade are discussed. The principal trading participants are identified and the focus is turned to silk-ikat production in Central Asia. It is recognised that the vast bulk of trade, along what became known as the 'Silk Route' (or 'Silk Road'), did not involve straight-forward or direct exchange between powers to the far east of the route and powers to the far west, but rather was done in stages between adjacent or not too distant locations. Diffusion of ideas was not therefore immediate and operational at one eastern or western extreme of a trading network but, rather, was a gradual process influencing adjacent participants, at stages between the geographic extremes over a long period of time.
Since specific types and physical characteristics of anuran calls can represent reproductive qualities of a calling male, anuran calls have been studied in context of mate choice. We in here report call types of Rana dybowskii and their variations from two different recording sites. Calls of R. dybowskii are classified to three types based on their physical characteristics and behavioral observations; 'A-call'functions to advertise locations of a calling male and to attract potential mates. A territorial male emits 'B-call'only during male-male interaction. 'C -call'is released when a male frog was clasped by another male. The A-call from two recording sites, Miwon and Wonju, shows high variations in their call characteristics.
