  • In this paper, we propose a method to extract the features of five sensor-only facilities built as infrastructure for autonomous cooperative driving, which are from point cloud data acquired by LiDAR. In the case of image acquisition sensors installed in autonomous vehicles, the acquisition data is inconsistent due to the climatic environment and camera characteristics, so LiDAR sensor was applied to replace them. In addition, high-intensity reflectors were designed and attached to each facility to make it easier to distinguish it from other existing facilities with LiDAR. From the five sensor-only facilities developed and the point cloud data acquired by the data acquisition system, feature points were extracted based on the average reflective intensity of the high-intensity reflective paper attached to the facility, clustered by the DBSCAN method, and changed to two-dimensional coordinates by a projection method. The features of the facility at each distance consist of three-dimensional point coordinates, two-dimensional projected coordinates, and reflection intensity, and will be used as training data for a model for facility recognition to be developed in the future.

  • In this study, the application of recovered metals from spent batteries by extraction was investigated for ozone decomposition as a catalyst. Among the recovered metals, Mn contents was the most important factor for ozone decomposition. It was also found that the deactivation rate of the catalyst was dependent on the Zn contents, while K contents and activities were not perfectly correlated for ozone decomposition. In addition, the catalytic activity the $TiO_2$ added catalyst was decreased, due to the reduction of Mn contents. The structural characteristics of maganase oxide was not associated with the catalytic activity for ozone decomposition.

  • Our country has both relics of long history and cultural inheritance as the resources of cultural sightseeing all over the country. Recently we found the lots of cultural assets in history by the survey of the sightseeing resources. Those are known to the people to give their values and semantics and the government makes on a lot of constant efforts. In this study, a system to investigate the path and to visit the location are developed by combining various gio-spatial data with the multimedia contents. This system provides people with guidance to and locating the cultural assets in the cyber space. The developed guide system is more convenient to provide people with the information and they are able to access the designated cultural assets of the nation easily. In addition, the contents are made by that people are able to use easily in the public area as well as on the internet.

  • During and after the construction of embankment on soft ground, consolidation settlements and lateral displacements develop. But generally it's very difficult to predict the magnitude of lateral deformations and the correct distribution of lateral displacements with depth under the toe of embankment because the consolidation and the shear deformations of soft ground occur simultaneously. This study shows that later displacements of ground surface arise by embankment loading act on soft clay hight water contents in laboratory model testing. The results of model test are observed settlement of embankment, amount of maximum rising and displacement of ground surface with loading velocity. The formula were proposed to predict lateral movement by test series.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze lateral displacement behavior of clay layers in case of the banking in soft ground through model tests. Seven model tests varying with thickness of soft clay and loading velocity are performed to correlate between ground heaving and loading velocity. In case of low loading velocity, vertical settlement below loading plate and small ground heaving are obviously observed. In case of the high loading velocity, it is shown that both soil displacement at the end of a loading plate and surface heaving are large. In addition, the calculated displacements show good agreement with three cases of field measurements in clay with high moisture contents so that we can predict the range of heaving area and the amount of heaving.

  • The permafrost active layer plays an important role in permafrost dynamics. Ecological patterns, processes, and water and ice contents in the active layer are spatially and temporally complex depending on landscape heterogeneity and local-scale variations in hydrological processes. Although there has been emerging interest in the application of optical remote sensing techniques to permafrost environments, optical sensors are significantly limited in accessing information on near surface geo-cryological conditions. The primary objective of this study was to investigate capability of L-band SAR data for monitoring spatio-temporal variability of permafrost ecosystems and underlying soil conditions. This study exploits information from different polarimetric SAR observables in relation to permafrost environmental conditions. Experimental results show that each polarimetric radar observable conveys different information on permafrost environments. In the case of the dual-pol mode, the radar observables consist of two backscattering powers and one correlation coefficient between polarimetric channels. Among them, the dual-pol scattering powers are highly sensitive to freeze/thaw transition and can discriminate grasslands or ponds in thermokarst area from other permafrost ecosystems. However, it is difficult to identify the ground conditions with dual-pol observables. Additional backscattering powers and correlation coefficients obtained from quad-pol mode help understanding seasonal variations ofradar scattering and assessing geo-cryological information on soil layers. In particular, co-pol coherences atHV-basis and circular-basis were found to be very usefultools for mapping and monitoring near surface soil properties.

  • Mobility and cloud platform have become the dominant paradigm to develop web services dealing with huge and diverse digital contents for scientific solution or engineering application. These two trends are technically combined into mobile cloud computing environment taking beneficial points from each. The intention of this study is to design and implement a mobile cloud application for remotely sensed image fusion for the further practical geo-based mobile services. In this implementation, the system architecture consists of two parts: mobile web client and cloud application server. Mobile web client is for user interface regarding image fusion application processing and image visualization and for mobile web service of data listing and browsing. Cloud application server works on OpenStack, open source cloud platform. In this part, three server instances are generated as web server instance, tiling server instance, and fusion server instance. With metadata browsing of the processing data, image fusion by Bayesian approach is performed using functions within Orfeo Toolbox (OTB), open source remote sensing library. In addition, similarity of fused images with respect to input image set is estimated by histogram distance metrics. This result can be used as the reference criterion for user parameter choice on Bayesian image fusion. It is thought that the implementation strategy for mobile cloud application based on full open sources provides good points for a mobile service supporting specific remote sensing functions, besides image fusion schemes, by user demands to expand remote sensing application fields.

  • Unconfined compressive strength tests were performed to evaluate curing characteristics of controlled low strength material(CLSM) made with coal ashes. It is found that unconfined compressive strength normalized by curing times, increases as decreasing the water contents of CLSM particularly during first three days. Dynamic cone penetrometer tests were also carried out to evaluate cost-effective CLSM lump strength characteristics with time. It takes around 10 days to reach target strength, 500kPa (penetration rate, 20mm/blow). Curing rate significantly decreases after 10 days elapsed regardless of CLSM formulation.

  • Trafficability for construction equipments in soft ground should be secured by improving the surface course. For this situation, the ground improvement technique has been used with stiffening agent, but the improvement cement has been mostly used so far. However, oyster shell has been developed and used as the stiffening agent to expand the chance of recycling oyster shell, which is regarded as solid waste. In this research, it was confirmed mechanical characteristics of oyster shell as stiffening agent by analyzing the strength characteristic such as mixing rates, water contents, and curing days of that to the dredging soil.

  • As diverse web-based geos-spatial services are developed, the values of technologies and standards related to this trend are also emphasized. In this study, a prototype supporting mandatory components in OGC standard catalog service is designed and implemented, linked to PostgreSQL, open source DBMS. As the main features, XML metadata server was built with the helps of XML query functions in PostgreSQL. Given target applications with geo-spatial data sources and contents, this model can be applied, and it can be used for extension in other external web-based service systems or applications, because it supports international standard specifications.
