  • A crambid species, Heterocnephes apicipicta Inoue, is reported for the first time in Korea. Three females of Heterocnephes apicipicta were collected from two islands in the Southern Sea of Korea. Diagnosis of the species is provided with a brief description of adult, including female genitalia.

  • Lipoid congenital adrenal hyperplasia (LCAH) is the severe form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia and is characterized by adrenal insufficiency with hyperpigmentation and female external genitalia irrespective of genetic sex. The steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) is required for the transport of cholesterol into the mitochondria for steroidogenesis, and defects in the StAR gene account for the majority of LCAH cases. In this report, we present a two-day-old hyperpigmented infant with phenotypical female genitalia. With consideration of the clinical and laboratory findings, the infant was suspected of having adrenal insufficiency due to LCAH and treated with glucocorticoid, mineralocorticoid, and sodium chloride. Karyotyping revealed 46, XY. Upon pelvis ultrasonography, adrenal hyperplasia with abdominal masses (thought to be the testicles) was reported. Molecular analysis with targeted exome sequencing revealed the homozygote mutation of c.772C>T ($p.Q258^*$) in exon 7 of the StAR gene. The early detection and treatment of adrenal insufficiency in infants with hyperpigmentation can prevent clinically apparent adrenal crises. During follow-up, the patient had a good clinical condition and maintained normal electrolyte and adrenocorticotropic hormone levels with medication.

  • Objective : The explanations regarding the function, region, and related internal organ and meridian of Jonggeun as discovered in historical texts were studied in an attempt to understand the true concept of Jonggeun. Method : Texts were searched to extract sentences that are relasted to Jonggeun, and these were used to categorize and analyze the area, related meridian and organ, function, and disease symptom. Thereafter, how Jonggeun affects the whole body and the regions of Jonggeun were contemplated. Result & Conclusion : Jonggeun can be divided into what is related to sexual intercourse, and into sokgol and Ligigwan. Here, things related to sexual intercourse explains the function of penis arousal. The functions of Sokgol and Ligigwan signifies that they serve as the base points for the body when it exercises, and they cooperate with Chungmaek to provide blodo and vitaility to body joints. There are two major differing opinions regarding the region of Jeonggeun. One explains that it exists within the genitalia, and the other sees fit to believe that it exists within small abdomen. Considering the functions of Sokgol and Ligigwan, it is right to view that Jonggeun exists around Gigahyeol, and the view limited to genitalia only considers Jonggeun around sexual intercourse.

  • Herein, we report a new record of Notodontidae moth, Neodrymonia marginalis (Matsumura) in Korea. This species is characterized by grayish forewing that shows thick dark grayish band between basal and antemedial line, smooth postmedial line costally with blackish crescent line, dark grayish subtermen with dark brownish thick band costally, and whitish and black dot shaped discal dot. The female genitalia can be distinguished by the broad, plate-shaped postvaginalis, strongly sclerotized ductus dursae with three long spike shaped and several small spike shaped processes, and large, ovate corpus bursae with a large fan-shaped plate signum. Neodrymonia marginalis can be distinguished from N. deliana by the shape and color of the costal part of postmedial line and subtermen of forewing. The female genitalia of N. marginalis can be distinguished from those of N. deliana by the rectangular postvaginalis and more spike like processes of the anterior of ductus bursae. Up to now, four species of Neodrymonia are recorded in Korea: N. delia (Leech, 1889), N. coreana Matsumura, 1922, N. deliana Gaede, 1933, and Neodrymonia marginalis.

  • Larvae, pupae, and adults reared from the pupae of Simulium (Boreosimulium) konoi were collected and recorded from Korea for the first time. I provide detailed descriptions of both immatures and adults accompanied with photographs. The subgenus Boreosimulium, previously unknown from Korea, contains 19 species in 3 species-groups worldwide and only 2 species, viz, S. (B.) konoi and S. (B.) tokachiense, are recorded from Japan. Simulium konoi is unique among the members of the subgenus by having water dropshaped denticles on the anterior portion of the cibarium in females, which is considered as an autapomorphic character so far not found in other black flies, W or inverted V-shaped ventral plate of male genitalia, and larval thorax and abdominal segments covered with short black setae. Korean specimens of S. konoi collected from two adjacent localities can readily be recognized by denticles on the cibarium in females and well-developed ventral plate of male genitalia but showed geographical variation, e.g., lacking ventral tubercle on larval abdominal segment IX. Due to the autapomorphy and other characters found in S. konoi, the current placement of the S. konoi in the subgenus Boreosimulium or species-group assignment is tentative.
