Information on the patterns of genetic diversity and population structure is essential for the rational use and efficient management of germplasms; accurate information aids in monitoring germplasms, and can also be used to predict potential genetic gains. In this study, we assessed genetic diversity, focusing on Korean rice accessions for theand their sustainable conserved diversity. Using DNA profiling with 12 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers, we detected a total of 333 alleles among 2,016 accessions. The number of alleles ranged from 21 to 53, with an average of 27.8. Average polymorphism information content was 0.797, with the lowest being 0.667 and the highest 0.940. CA cluster analysis and the model-based population structure revealed two main groups that could be subdivided into five subgroups. Analysis of the molecular variance study based on the SSR profile data showed 5% variance among the profiles, whereas we recorded 93% variance among individuals and 2% variance within individuals. Specifically, the utilized diversity for of the breeding program is restricted in that cultivars were located in limited clades. These results revealed that preserving the diversity of Korean landraces could be useful sources for breeding new rice cultivars, and cwould be the basis for the sustainable conservation and utilization of a Korean rice germplasm.
Genetic parameters for growth-related traits were estimated in 9-month old of two Korean abalone subspecies, Haliotis discus hannai and H. discus discus, using multiple traits of animal model. The data were collected from the records of 3,504 individuals produced from 16 sires and 17 dams in H. discus hannai and 821 individuals produced from 3 sires and 4 dams in H. discus discus, which was evaluated at the Bukjeju branch, NFRDI, from May 20, 2004 to February 14, 2005. The heritability estimates obtained from restricted maximum likelihood (REML) method range from 0.29 to 0.31 for three growth traits (shell length, shell width and body weight) in H. discus hannai and from 0.22 to 0.28 in H. discus discus, respectively. The heritabilities for shell shape and condition factor were lower than others of growth traits such as ranging from 0.03 to 0.24 in H. discus hannai and from 0.06 to 0.11 in H. discus discus, respectively. Genetic and phenotypic correlations were >0.91 between shell parameters and weight in two abalone subspecies, respectively, indicating that breeding for weight gains could be successfully achieved by selecting for shell length.

Multivarialbe Boiler-Turbine H_\infty Control System Genetic Algorithm Weighting Functions $W_1$(s), $W_2$(s), and design parameter $\gamma$ that are given by Glover-Doyle algorithm, to optimally follow the output of reference model. The first method to do this is that the gains of weighting functions $W_1$(s), $W_2$(s), and design parameter are optimized simultaneously by genetic algorithm with the tournament method that can search more diversely, in the search domain which guarantees the robust stability of system. And the second method is that not only by genetic algorithm with the roulette-wheel method that can search more fast, in that search domain. The boiler-turbine H_\infty control system designed by theabove second method has not only the robust stability to a modeling error but also the the better command tracking preformance than those of the H_\infty control system designed by trial-and-error method and the above first method. Also, this boiler-turbine H_\infty control system has the better performance than that of the LQG/LTR contro lsystem. The effectiveness of this boiler-turbineH_\infty control system is verified by computer simulation.

A small body size of Brown Tsaiya laying duck is desirable to reduce maintenance requirements, so the body weight at 40 weeks of age (BW40) has to be maintained at its current level. Egg weight has to be maintained at around 65 g to meet market requirements. Eggshell strength at 40 weeks of age (ES40) must to be increased in order to maintain a low incidence of broken eggs. Thus, number of eggs laid up to 52 weeks of age (EN52) has to be increased without negative correlated response on ES40. A new linear genetic selection index was used: $I_g=a_0{\times}GEW40\;(g)+a_1{\times}GBW40\;(g)+a_2{\times}GES40\;(kg/cm^2)+a_3{\times}GEN52\;(eggs)$ where GEW40, GBW40, GES40 and GEN52 were the multitrait best linear unbiased prediction (MT-BLUP) animal model predictors of the breeding values respectively of egg weight and body weight at 40 weeks of age (EW40, BW40), ES40 and EN52. The coefficients $a_0$, $a_1$, $a_2$ and $a_3$ were calculated with constraints of 0.0 g, 0.0 g and $0.013kg/cm^2$ for expected genetic gains in EW40, BW40 and ES40 respectively and maximum gain in EN52. Since 1997, the drakes and the ducks were selected according to their own indexes, with this new genetic selection index. From G0 to G4, the average per generation predicted genetic responses in female duck were +0.05 g for EW40, +0.92 g for BW40, $+0.035kg/cm^2$ for ES40 and +2.13 eggs for EN52. Which represented respectively 0.07%, 0.06%, 0.67% and 1.0% of the means of the EW40, BW40, ES40 and EN52. For ES40 and EN52, it represented also respectively 16.1% and 21.6% of the additive genetic standard deviation of these traits. Thevse results indicated that selection of laying Brown Tsaiya by a restricted genetic selection index and with MT-BLUP animal model could be an efficient tool for improving the efficiency of egg production, increasing egg shell strength and egg number while holding egg weight and body weight constants.
An investigation was conducted on 729 Hariana cows maintained at Government Livestock Farm, Hisar, from 1973 to 1999, with an objective to compare the efficiency of various selection indices for attaining desired genetic gains in the index traits. The various traits included were age at first calving (AFC), service period (SP), calving interval (CI), days to first service (DFS), number of services per conception (NSPC), lactation milk yield (LY), peak yield (PY), dry period (DP). Except for LY, PY and AFC the heritabilities of all other traits were low. Desirable associations among reproductive traits are supportive of the fact that any one of these traits incorporated in simultaneous selection is expected to cause correlated response in other traits. Production traits (LY and PY) were positively correlated, while DP had low negative genetic correlation with LY, and high genetic correlation with PY. Thus, DP can be taken as additional criteria in selection index for better over all improvement. Almost all production traits except DP had low negative correlation with AFC, SP, DFS and CI meaning that reduction in reproduction traits up to certain level may increase production performance. While, the correlation of NSPC with LY and PY was moderate positive. Among four trait indices I23: incorporating PY, AFC, SP and NSPC and among three trait indices I1: incorporating LY, AFC and SP were the best as these required least number of generations (4.87 and 1.35, respectively) to attain desired goals. Next in order of preference were PY or LY along with DP and SP as the best indices (I20 and I16) of which, index with PY may be preferred instead of LY as it produced considerably high correlated response in LY and reduction in NSPC as well.

This paper presents a joint controller for a humanoid robot based on genetic algorithm. h humanoid robot has basically instability during walking because it isn't fixed on the ground. Moreover nonlinearities of the joints increase its instability. If one of them isn't satisfied, the robot may fall down at the ground during walking. To attack one of those problems, joint controller is proposed. It can perform tracking control preciously and reduce the effect of nonlinearities by gear, limitation of the input voltage, coulomb friction and so on. This controller is based on fuzzy-sliding mode controller (FSMC) and compensator and control gains are searched by a proposed genetic algorithm. It can reduce the effect by nonlinearities. Also, to improve the tracking performance, the proposed controller has motion controller. From the given controller, a humanoid robot can moved more preciously. Here, all the processes are investigated through simulations and it is verified experimentally in a real joint system for a humanoid robot.

Omnidirectional mobile robots can be mobile in any direction without changing the robot's direction, making them easy to apply in many applications and providing excellent maneuverability. Omnidirectional mobile robots have non-linear dynamic components such as friction, making them difficult to model accurately. In this paper, we linearize the mobile robot system using the mobile robot's inverse dynamics and integral sliding mode control method to remove these nonlinear components. And the position and velocity gains are optimized using a genetic algorithm to realize the optimal performance of the proposed system control method. As a result of the performance evaluation, the genetic algorithm's control method showed superior performance than the control method with an arbitrary gain. And the proposed inverse dynamic and integral sliding mode control method can be applied to other control methods. It can be beneficial for designing a linear control system.
To advance the effectiveness of the current Hanwoo improvement system, we developed a general simulation that compared a series of breeding schemes under realistic user circumstances. We call this system the Integrated General Model (IGM) and it allows users to control the breeding schemes and selection methods by manipulating the input parameters. The Current Hanwoo Performance and Progeny Test (CHPPT) scheme was simulated with a Modified Hanwoo Performance and Progeny Test (MHPPT) scheme using a Hanwoo Breeding Farm cow population of the Livestock Improvement Main Center (LOMC) of the National Agricultural Cooperatives Federation (NACF). To compare the two schemes, a new method, the Simple Hanwoo Performance Test (SHPT), which uses ultrasound technology for measuring the carcass traits of live animals, was developed. These three models, including the CHPPT, incorporated three types of selection criteria: phenotype (PH), true breeding value (TBV), and estimated breeding value (EBV). The simulation was scheduled to mimic an actual Hanwoo breeding program; thus, the simulation was run to include the years 1983-2020 for each breeding method and was replicated 10 times. The parameters for simulation were derived from the literature. Approximately 642,000 animals were simulated per replication for the CHPPT scheme; 129,000 animals were simulated for the MHPPT scheme and 112,000 animals for the SHPT scheme. Throughout the 38-year simulation, all estimated parameters of each simulated population, regardless of population size, showed results similar to the input parameters. The deviations between input and output values for the parameters in the large populations were statistically acceptable. In this study, we integrated three simulated models, including the CHPPT, in an attempt to achieve the greatest genetic gains within major economic traits including body weight at 12 months of age (BW12), body weight at 24 months of age (BW24), average daily gain from 6 to 12 months (ADG), carcass weight (CWT), carcass longissimus muscle area (CLMA), carcass marbling score (CMS), ultrasound scanned longissimus muscle area (ULMA), and ultrasound scanned marbling score (UMS).

The objective of this study was to produce superior cows by sexual distinction of embryos collected from the donor with pedigree information. Collected embryos distinguished by biopsy using punching or bisection methods and Loop-mediated isothermal amplification of sex-determined DNA for sexing. Six embryos predicted as female were transplanted to recipients and then 2 pregnant cows were normally delivered of calves at 278 and 285 days after embryo transfer. Birth weights of calves named Barani and Borani were 18kg and 25kg, respectively. Adjusted body weights for 90 days were 61.1kg and 88.8kg, respectively. Average daily gains were 0.48kg and 0.71kg, respectively.
The aim of this study was to estimate heritability and repeatability for the number of embryos and transferable embryos collected per flush in Holstein population in Hokkaido, Japan. Data consisted of 306 MOET (Multiple Ovulation and Embryo Transfer) treatments on 224 Holstein cows from 1997 to 2000. Variance components for these traits were estimated using the REML procedure. The model included only non-genetic factors that were significant at the 0.05 level, through using generalized linear models, maximum likelihood methods, and stepwise regression procedure as fixed effects and sire and residual for heritabilities, donor and residual for repeatabilities as random effects. The factor identified as important in determining the results was the donor''s estrous condition after superovulation. Heritabilities for the number of embryos and transferable embryos collected per flush were 0.14 and 0.09, respectively. The corresponding repeatabilities were 0.43 and 0.32, respectively. These results show that it was difficult to genetically improve these traits, thus, environmental and physical factors affecting the donor must be improved. These results also show that it is necessary to take the donor''s estrous condition after superovulation and repeatabilities for the number of embryos and transferable embryos collected per flush into account when the genetic gains and inbreeding rates for MOET breeding schemes are predicted by a computer simulation.
