  • To compare three-phase 12-pulse full-wave X-ray generators with single-phase full-wave X-ray generators on their performance of outputs, authors studied the generating X-ray by means of exposure dose and radiographic density. The results were as follows; 1. The exposure doses of three-phase full-wave X-ray generators showed a 30%-60% increase as compared against of single-phase full-wave generators. 2. The transmitted doses of three-phase full-wave generators were more increased than single-phase full-wave X-ray generators. 3. To obtain the same density, 60kVp in three-phase full-wave generators were equivalent to $60{\sim}65kVp$ in single-phase full-wave generators, and 100kVp in those generators were equivalent to $100{\sim}125kVp$ in these generators.

  • This paper presents miniaturized setback generators based on the conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy for military applications, especially power supply for electronic fuzes. In order to minimize the volume of setback generators, a ring-shaped magnet enclosing a coil assembly is adopted. A mechanical safety system, shear plate, is used as a release mechanism of the setback generators to prevent the generators from operating accidentally. The setback generators are intended not to ignite an electrical detonator but to charge a capacitor which is capable of driving electronic circuit of fuze. We design the setback generators using the simulation results of an electromagnetic analysis tool, $Maxwell^{(R)}$ 2D. In experimental study, we perform safety tests of the shear plate and firing tests of the fabricated setback generators. The present setback generators show that the voltage of 14.2V is charged at the capacitor of $30{\mu}F$ within the charging time of 0.68msec and the critical acceleration for safety is 5,000G, thus verifying that the setback generators with a ring-shaped permanent magnet can be applicable to the power supply of small-caliber electronic fuze.

  • We calculate the benefit of distributed combined heat power generators from avoiding a transmission expansion cost by building distributed generators near electricity demand centers. We determine a transmission expansion plan by solving a mixed integer linear problem, where we modify capacities of existing transmission lines and build new transmission lines. We calculate the benefit by comparing the sum of generation and transmission expansion costs with or without distributed generators through two simulation frames. In the first frame, for the current demand, we substitute existing distributed generators for non-distributed generators and measure an additional cost to balance the generation and demand. In the second frame, for increased future demand, we compare the cost to invest only in distributed generators to the cost to invest only in non-distributed generators. As a result, we show that the distributed generators have at least 5.8 won/kWh of the benefit from avoiding the transmission expansion cost.

  • In this paper, we discuss convergence theorem for contraction C-regularized semigroups. We establish the convergence of the sequence of generators of contraction regularized semigroups in some sense implies the convergence of the sequence of the corresponding contraction regularized semigroups. Under the assumption that R(C) is dense, we show the convergence of generators is implied by the convergence of C-resolvents of generators.

  • Renewable energy resources such as wind, wave, solar, micro hydro, tidal and biomass etc are becoming important stage by stage, considering the effect of environment. Wind energy is one of the most successful sources of renewable energy for the production of electrical energy. What's more, due to wind speed random variation the wind turbine generators can not make two-state model as conventional generators. The method of obtaining reliability evaluation indices of wind turbine generators is different from the conventional generators. This paper presents a study on the reliability evaluation of power system considering wind turbine generators with a simplified multi-state model.

  • This paper describes operational characteristics of wind turbine induction generators interconnected with distribution networks using PSCAD/EMTDC. Due to the simple and durable structure, induction generators are the most common type used in wind Power generation. Generally, induction generators are classified into two groups according to the shape of rotor, one is squirrel-cage type and the other is wound-rotor type. In this study, we simulate the start-up and the output variation of generators interconnected with distribution networks and compare the operational characteristics of squirrel -cage type and wound-rotor type induction generators located in the unfaulted distribution lines about the disturbance occurred on the associated distribution feeders emanated from the substation to which wind turbine generator is connected. In order to obtain the realistic results, we use the radial distribution network of IEEE 13-bus model.

  • High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) synchronous generators can be designed with either an air-core type or iron-core type. The air-core type has higher efficiency under rated rotating speed and load than the iron-core type because of the iron losses which may produce much heat. However, the total length of HTS wire in the air-core type is longer than the iron-core type because the generated magnetic flux density of the air-core type is low. This paper deals with designs of 10 MW air-core and iron-core HTS wind power generators for wind turbines. Fully air-core, partially iron-core, and fully iron-core HTS generators are designed, and various stator winding methods in the three HTS generators are also considered, such as short-pitch concentrated winding, full-pitch concentrated winding, short-pitch distributed winding, and full-pitch distributed winding. These HTS generators are analyzed using a 3D finite elements method program. The analysis results of the HTS generators are discussed in detail, and the results will be effectively utilized for large-scale wind power generation systems.

  • Vortex generators are fabricated on the fin surface of a fin-tube heat exchanger to augment the convective heat transfer. In addition to horseshoe vortices formed naturally around the tube of the fin-tube heat exchanger, longitudinal vortices are artificially created on the fin surface by vortex generators. The purpose of this study is to investigate the local heat transfer phenomena in the fin-tube heat exchangers with and without vortex generators, and to evaluate the effect of vortices on the heat transfer enhancement. Naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to measure local mass transfer coefficients, then analogy equation between heat and mass transfer is used to calculate heat transfer coefficients. Experiments are performed for the model of fin -circular tube heat exchangers with and without vortex generators, and of fin-flat tube heat exchangers with and without vortex generators. Average heat transfer coefficients of finn-flat tube heat exchanger without vertex generator are much lower than those of fin-circular tube heat exchanger. On the other hand, fin-flat tube heat exchanger with vortex generators has much higher heat transfer value than conventional fin-circular tube heat exchanger At the same time, pressure losses for four types of heat exchanger is measured and compared.

  • Local and overall heat transfer characteristics of fin-flat tube heat exchangers with and without vortex generators were investigated. Local heat transfer coefficients were measured with the heat exchanger model using naphthalene sublimation technique. In case of a fin-flat tube heat exchanger without vortex generators, only the horseshoe vortices formed around tubes augment the heat transfer. On the other hand, longitudinal vortices created artificially by vortex generators additionally enhance heat transfer in case of a fin-flat tube heat exchanger with vortex generators. Overall heat transfer coefficients were measured with the prototypes of the fin-flat tube heat exchanger with and without vortex generators in a wind tunnel and results were compared with those of a fin-circular tube heat exchanger with wavy fin. Friction losses for heat exchangers were also measured and compared. The fin-flat tube heat exchanger with vortex generators is found to be more effective than the fin-circular tube heat exchanger with wavy fin.
