A DC generator control system was designed to control the torque of a rotating shaft precisely. The control system is composed of a strain gage type torque cell, a torque cell amplifier, a computer, a D/A converter, a error detector, a DC voltage amplifier and a resistor. The response test under unit step input and the dynamic stability test for the designed control system were carried out. It was confirmed that the settling time from the response test is about 4 s and the error from the dynamic stability test is less than 0.06% of rated output of torque cell. The designed control system may be used to control a DC generator which may be used to apply torque to a rotating shaft.
This paper presents a high efficient generator with PM(Permanent Magnet) exciter. The proposed PM exciter for the generator can produce a linear output voltage according to the engine speed. This output voltage is directly used to control the field current of the generator to adjust the generator output voltage. In the proposed generator system, since the field winding current can be supplied by the PM exciter, the generator can self-start without any battery or an external power supply due to the low residential flux. Furthermore, the operating efficiency of the generator is higher than a conventional winding exciter. The main problem of the proposed generator system, the field winding current controller has to be embedded inside the generator, and it rotates according to the generator shaft. In this paper, the proper embedded current controller is designed for the proposed generator system. Due to the embedded controller cannot be connected to the outside the generator controller, the measured instantaneous output voltage of the generator is transferred by the photo isolated communication using shaft aligned infrared transmitter and receiver to keep the constant generator output voltage. In this paper, 10kW, 380V engine generator with PM exciter and the embedded DAVR(Digital Automatic Voltage Regulator) are described. The proposed high efficiency generator is simulated and tested to verify the effectiveness.
This paper presents a stand-alone variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) ship shaft generator system based on a brushless doubly-fed machine (BDFM). In this system, the output voltage amplitude and frequency of the BDFM are kept constant under a variable rotor speed and load by utilizing a well-designed current vector controller to regulate the control winding (CW) current. The control scheme is proposed, and the hardware design for the control system is developed. The proposed generator system is tested on a 325 TEU container vessel, and the test results show the good dynamic performance of the CW current vector controller and the whole control system. A harmonic analysis of the output voltage and a fuel consumption analysis of the generator system are also implemented. Finally, the total efficiency of the generator system is presented under different rotor speeds and load conditions.

In this paper, a wind turbine with power splitting transmission, which is realized through a novel three-shaft planetary, is presented. The input shaft of the transmission is driven by the rotor of the wind turbine, the output shaft is connected to the grid via the main generator (asynchronous generator), and the third shaft is driven by a control motor with variable speed. The dynamic models of the sub systems of this wind turbine, e.g. the rotor aerodynamics, the drive train dynamics and the power generation unit dynamics, were given and linearized at an operating point. These sub models were integrated in a multidisciplinary dynamic model, which is suitable for control syntheses to optimize the utilization of wind energy and to reduce the excessive dynamic loads. The important dynamic behaviours were investigated and a wind turbine with a soft main shaft was recommend.

As a major component of a power plant, a turbine generator must have sufficient reliability. Longer blades have lower natural frequency, thereby requiring that the design of the shaft and blade takes into account the coupling of the blade vibration mode, nodal diameter k=0 and k=1 with vibration of the shaft. The present work analyzes the coupling of the translation motion of the shaft with in-plane vibration of the blades with k=1 modes. At a rotational speed ${\Omega}_1=|{\omega}_s-{\omega}_b|$, the resonance of the blades has a relatively large amplitude. A violent coupled resonance was observed at a rotational speed ${\Omega}_2=|{\omega}_s+{\omega}_b|$. Resonance in blade vibration at ${\Omega}_1=|{\omega}_s-{\omega}_b|$ was experimentally confirmed.
ISO 22266-1 issued in May 2009 provides guidelines for applying shaft torsional vibration criteria, under normal operating conditions, for the coupled shaft system and long blades of a turbine generator set. In case that a turbine generator vendor do not meet the separation margin of torsional natural frequencies in the technical specifications of the purchaser, this standard can present the reasonable and objective criteria about torsional vibration which both purchaser and supplier can agree on, while ensuring the integrity of turbine generator. This paper describes the application case of ISO 22266-1 for the establishment of torsinal vibration criteria under retrofitting the turbine generator of 'U' nuclear power plant.
High-speed shaft coupling in a wind power system transmits power and absorbs variations in length and spindle dislocation between the gearbox and generator. Furthermore, the coupling has an insulation function that prevents electrical corrosion caused by the flow of the generator's current into the gearbox and prevents overload resulting from sudden power failure from being transferred to the gearbox. Its design, functions, and part verification are described in the IEC61400 and GL Guidelines, which specify that the part must have a durability life of 20 years or longer under distance variation and axial misalignment between the gearbox and the generator. This study presents the design of a high-speed coupling through composite stiffness calculation, structural analysis, and comparative analysis of test and theory to identify the characteristics of high-speed coupling for a large-capacity 6 MW wind power generator. A prototype was fabricated by optimizing the manufacturing process for each part based on the design, and the reliability of the fabricated prototype was verified by evaluating the performance of the target quantitative evaluation items.

Connecting a synchronous generator to a power system is a dynamic process, requiring the coordinated operation of many components and systems. The goal is to connect the oncoming generator to the system smoothly i.e without causing any significant bumps, surges, or power swings, by closing the ACB when the oncoming generator matches the power system in voltage magnitude, phase angle, and frequency. If oncoming generator voltage is not matched to the power system voltage, reactive power will flow either into or out of the system at the instant of ACB closure. If this voltage difference is too great, the reactive power flow may result in high transient stresses that could damage the windings of the generator. Also, if oncoming generator frequency is not matched to the power system frequency, transient power will flow between generator and power system. If the frequency difference is too great, the transient power flow is reflected into the prime mover shaft, and this may result in excessive shaft or coupling stress. This paper tries to prove the necessity of correct synchronization for ship generators through a transient phenomenon analysis.
