Currently, microarray gene expression data take advantage of the sufficient classification of cancers, which addresses the problems relating to cancer causes and treatment regimens. However, the sample size of gene expression data is often restricted, because the price of microarray technology on studies in humans is high. We propose enhancing the gene expression classification of support vector machines with generative adversarial networks (GAN-SVMs). A GAN that generates new data from original training datasets was implemented. The GAN was used in conjunction with nonlinear SVMs that efficiently classify gene expression data. Numerical test results on 20 low-sample-size and very high-dimensional microarray gene expression datasets from the Kent Ridge Biomedical and Array Expression repositories indicate that the model is more accurate than state-of-the-art classifying models.

Although significant progress has been made in synthesizing visually realistic face images by Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), there still lacks effective approaches to provide fine-grained control over the generation process for semantic facial attribute editing. In this work, we propose a novel cross channel self-attention based generative adversarial network (CCA-GAN), which weights the importance of multiple channels of features and archives pixel-level feature alignment and conversion, to reduce the impact on irrelevant attributes while editing the target attributes. Evaluation results show that CCA-GAN outperforms state-of-the-art models on the CelebA dataset, reducing Fréchet Inception Distance (FID) and Kernel Inception Distance (KID) by 15~28% and 25~100%, respectively. Furthermore, visualization of generated samples confirms the effect of disentanglement of the proposed model.

Generative adversarial networks (GANs) achieved impressive performance on image generation and visual classification applications. However, adversarial networks meet difficulties in combining the generative model and unstable training process. To overcome the problem, we combined the deep residual network with upsampling convolutional layers to construct the generative network. Moreover, the study shows that image generation and classification performance become more prominent when the residual layers include on the generator. The proposed network empirically shows that the ability to generate images with higher visual accuracy provided certain amounts of additional complexity using proper regularization techniques. Experimental evaluation shows that the proposed method is superior to image generation and classification tasks.

The purpose of this study is to develop appropriate science teaching models which can be applied effectively to relevant situations. Five science teaching models; cognitive conflict teaching models, generative teaching model, learning cycle teaching model, hypothesis verification teaching model and discovery teaching model, were identified from the existing models. The teaching models were modified and in primary and secondary students using a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Major findings of this study were as follows: 1. For teaching science concepts, three teaching models were found more effective; cognitive conflict teaching model, generative teaching model and discovery teaching model. 2. For teaching inquiry skills, two teaching models were found more effective; learning cycle teaching model and hypothesis verification teaching model. 3. For teaching scientific attitudes, two teaching models were found more effective; learning cycle teaching models and discovery teaching model. Each teaching model requires specific learning environment. It is strongly suggested that teachers should select a suitable teaching model carefully after evaluating the learning environment including teacher and student variables, learning objectives and curricular materials.

The emergence of high-rise buildings has necessitated frequent structural health monitoring and maintenance for safety reasons. Wind causes damage and structural changes on tall structures; thus, safe structures should be designed. The pressure developed on tall buildings has been utilized in previous research studies to assess the impacts of wind on structures. The wind tunnel test is a primary research method commonly used to quantify the aerodynamic characteristics of high-rise buildings. Wind pressure is measured by placing pressure sensor taps at different locations on tall buildings, and the collected data are used for analysis. However, sensors may malfunction and produce erroneous data; these data losses make it difficult to analyze aerodynamic properties. Therefore, it is essential to generate missing data relative to the original data obtained from neighboring pressure sensor taps at various intervals. This study proposes a deep learning-based, deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN) to restore missing data associated with faulty pressure sensors installed on high-rise buildings. The performance of the proposed DCGAN is validated by using a standard imputation model known as the generative adversarial imputation network (GAIN). The average mean-square error (AMSE) and average R-squared (ARSE) are used as performance metrics. The calculated ARSE values by DCGAN on the building model's front, backside, left, and right sides are 0.970, 0.972, 0.984 and 0.978, respectively. The AMSE produced by DCGAN on four sides of the building model is 0.008, 0.010, 0.015 and 0.014. The average standard deviation of the actual measures of the pressure sensors on four sides of the model were 0.1738, 0.1758, 0.2234 and 0.2278. The average standard deviation of the pressure values generated by the proposed DCGAN imputation model was closer to that of the measured actual with values of 0.1736,0.1746,0.2191, and 0.2239 on four sides, respectively. In comparison, the standard deviation of the values predicted by GAIN are 0.1726,0.1735,0.2161, and 0.2209, which is far from actual values. The results demonstrate that DCGAN model fits better for data imputation than the GAIN model with improved accuracy and fewer error rates. Additionally, the DCGAN is utilized to estimate the wind pressure in regions of buildings where no pressure sensor taps are available; the model yielded greater prediction accuracy than GAIN.

A model test is performed to measure the sloshing impact pressure in the liquid tank. A preprocessing is performed to learn the model test results applied with various environmental conditions. In this study, we propose a method for generating data similar to the total pressure data using Generative Adversarial Networks. In addition, after approximating the generated result to the three parameter Weibull distribution, the difference of the three parameters was compared through the RMSE and SMAPE calculation results. As a result, the distribution of the generated data showed similar results to the total pressure data distribution.

Recent research shows that latent directions can be used to image process towards certain attributes. However, controlling the generation process of generative model is very difficult. Though the latent directions are used to image process for certain attributes, many restrictions are required to enhance the attributes received the latent vectors according to certain text and prompts and other attributes largely unaffected. This study presents a generative model having certain restriction to the latent vectors for image generation and manipulation. The suggested method requires only few minutes per manipulation, and the simulation results through Tensorflow Variational Auto-encoder show the effectiveness of the suggested approach with extensive results.

One of the objectives and aspirations of scientists and engineers ever since the development of computers has been to interact naturally with machines. Hence features of artificial intelligence (AI) like natural language processing and natural language generation were developed. The field of AI that is thought to be expanding the fastest is interactive conversational systems. Numerous businesses have created various Virtual Personal Assistants (VPAs) using these technologies, including Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, and Google Assistant, among others. Even though many chatbots have been introduced through the years to diagnose or treat psychological disorders, we are yet to have a user-friendly chatbot available. A smart generative cognitive behavioral therapy with spoken dialogue systems support was then developed using a model Persona Perception (P2) bot with Generative Pre-trained Transformer-2 (GPT-2). The model was then implemented using modern technologies in VPAs like voice recognition, Natural Language Understanding (NLU), and text-to-speech. This system is a magnificent device to help with voice-based systems because it can have therapeutic discussions with the users utilizing text and vocal interactive user experience.
We propose a generative probabilistic model with Dirichlet prior distribution for topic modeling and text similarity analysis. It assigns a topic and calculates text correlation between documents within a corpus. It also provides posterior probabilities that are assigned to each topic of a document based on the prior distribution in the corpus. We then present a Gibbs sampling algorithm for inference about the posterior distribution and compute text correlation among 50 abstracts from the papers published by IEEE. We also conduct a supervised learning to set a benchmark that justifies the performance of the LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation). The experiments show that the accuracy for topic assignment to a certain document is 76% for LDA. The results for supervised learning show the accuracy of 61%, the precision of 93% and the f1-score of 96%. A discussion for experimental results indicates a thorough justification based on probabilities, distributions, evaluation metrics and correlation coefficients with respect to topic assignment.
Due to the situation of the widespread of the coronavirus, which causes the problem of lack of face image data occluded by masks at recent time, in order to solve the related problems, this paper proposes a method to generate face images with masks using a combination of generative adversarial networks and spatial transformation networks based on CNN model. The system we proposed in this paper is based on the GAN, combined with multi-scale convolution kernels to extract features at different details of the human face images, and used Wasserstein divergence as the measure of the distance between real samples and synthetic samples in order to optimize Generator performance. Experiments show that the proposed method can effectively put masks on face images with high efficiency and fast reaction time and the synthesized human face images are pretty natural and real.
