  • The field of artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly advancing, and AI models are increasingly applied in the medical field, especially in medical imaging, pathology, natural language processing, and biosignal analysis. On the basis of these advances, telemedicine, which allows people to receive medical services outside of hospitals or clinics, is also developing in many countries. The mechanisms of deep learning used in medical AI include convolutional neural networks, residual neural networks, and generative adversarial networks. Herein, we investigate the possibility of using these AI methods in the field of craniofacial surgery, with potential applications including craniofacial trauma, congenital anomalies, and cosmetic surgery.

  • According to the recent change in the cybersecurity paradigm, research on anomaly detection methods using machine learning and deep learning techniques, which are AI implementation technologies, is increasing. In this study, a comparative study on data preprocessing techniques that can improve the anomaly detection performance of a GRU (Gated Recurrent Unit) neural network-based intrusion detection model using NGIDS-DS (Next Generation IDS Dataset), an open dataset, was conducted. In addition, in order to solve the class imbalance problem according to the ratio of normal data and attack data, the detection performance according to the oversampling ratio was compared and analyzed using the oversampling technique applied with DCGAN (Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks). As a result of the experiment, the method preprocessed using the Doc2Vec algorithm for system call feature and process execution path feature showed good performance, and in the case of oversampling performance, when DCGAN was used, improved detection performance was shown.

  • Edge computing architecture has effectively alleviated the computing pressure on cloud platforms, reduced network bandwidth consumption, and improved the quality of service for user experience; however, it has also introduced new security issues. Existing anomaly detection methods in big data scenarios with cloud-edge computing collaboration face several challenges, such as sample imbalance, difficulty in dealing with complex network traffic attacks, and difficulty in effectively training large-scale data or overly complex deep-learning network models. A lightweight deep-learning model was proposed to address these challenges. First, normalization on the user side was used to preprocess the traffic data. On the edge side, a trained Wasserstein generative adversarial network (WGAN) was used to supplement the data samples, which effectively alleviates the imbalance issue of a few types of samples while occupying a small amount of edge-computing resources. Finally, a trained lightweight deep learning network model is deployed on the edge side, and the preprocessed and expanded local data are used to fine-tune the trained model. This ensures that the data of each edge node are more consistent with the local characteristics, effectively improving the system's detection ability. In the designed lightweight deep learning network model, two sets of convolutional pooling layers of convolutional neural networks (CNN) were used to extract spatial features. The bidirectional long short-term memory network (BiLSTM) was used to collect time sequence features, and the weight of traffic features was adjusted through the attention mechanism, improving the model's ability to identify abnormal traffic features. The proposed model was experimentally demonstrated using the NSL-KDD, UNSW-NB15, and CIC-ISD2018 datasets. The accuracies of the proposed model on the three datasets were as high as 0.974, 0.925, and 0.953, respectively, showing superior accuracy to other comparative models. The proposed lightweight deep learning network model has good application prospects for anomaly traffic detection in cloud-edge collaborative computing architectures.

  • Cracks in bridges are important factors that indicate the condition of bridges and should be monitored periodically. However, a visual inspection conducted by a human expert has problems in cost, time, and reliability. Therefore, in recent years, researches to apply a deep learning model are started to be conducted. Deep learning requires sufficient data on the situations to be predicted, but bridge crack data is relatively difficult to obtain. In particular, it is difficult to collect a large amount of crack data in a specific situation because the shape of bridge cracks may vary depending on the bridge's design, location, and construction method. This study developed a crack detection model that generates and trains insufficient crack data through a Generative Adversarial Network. GAN successfully generated data statistically similar to the given crack data, and accordingly, crack detection was possible with about 3% higher accuracy when using the generated image than when the generated image was not used. This approach is expected to effectively improve the performance of the detection model as it is applied when crack detection on bridges is required, though there is not enough data, also when there is relatively little or much data f or one class.

  • Recent research shows that latent directions can be used to image process towards certain attributes. However, controlling the generation process of generative model is very difficult. Though the latent directions are used to image process for certain attributes, many restrictions are required to enhance the attributes received the latent vectors according to certain text and prompts and other attributes largely unaffected. This study presents a generative model having certain restriction to the latent vectors for image generation and manipulation. The suggested method requires only few minutes per manipulation, and the simulation results through Tensorflow Variational Auto-encoder show the effectiveness of the suggested approach with extensive results.

  • To build an automated system detecting toxic chemicals from Raman spectra, we have to obtain sufficient data of toxic chemicals. However, it usually costs high to gather Raman spectra of toxic chemicals in diverse situations. Tackling this problem, we develop methods to generate synthetic Raman spectra of DMMP and 2-CEES without actual experiments. First, we propose certain mathematical transforms to augment few original Raman spectra. Then, we train deep generative models to generate more realistic and diverse data. Analyzing synthetic Raman spectra of toxic chemicals generated by our methods through visualization, we qualitatively verify that the data are sufficiently similar to original data and diverse. For conclusion, we obtain a synthetic dataset of DMMP and 2-CEES with the proposed algorithm.

  • Face aging aims to synthesize future face images by reflecting the age factor on given faces. In recent years, deep learning-based approaches have made outstanding progress in simulating the aging process of the human face. However, generating accurate and high-quality aging faces is still intrinsically difficult. We propose a new method that incorporates gender information into the model, which achieves comparable and stable performance. Experimental results demonstrate that our method can preserve the identity well and generate diverse aged faces.

  • Trajectory of ballistic missile is defined by inherent flight dynamics, which decided range and maneuvering characteristics. It is crucial to predict range and maneuvering characteristics of ballistic missile in KAMD (Korea Air and Missile Defense) to minimize damage due to ballistic missile attacks, Nowadays, needs for applying AI(Artificial Intelligence) technologies are increasing due to rapid developments of DNN(Deep Neural Networks) technologies. To apply these DNN technologies amount of data are required for superviesed learning, but trajectory data of ballistic missiles is limited because of security issues. Trajectory data could be considered as multivariate time series including many variables. And augmentation in time series data is a developing area of research. In this paper, we tried to augment trajectory data of ballistic missiles using recently developed methods. We used TimeVAE(Time Variational AutoEncoder) method and TimeGAN(Time Generative Adversarial Networks) to synthesize missile trajectory data. We also compare the results of two methods and analyse for future works.
