Survey on the Preference Formula for the Improvement of Oriental Herbal Medicine Insurance (한약건강보험에 대한 일반인의 한약제형 선호도 조사)

  • Objectives : This study aimed to provide basic data for future policies regarding the expansion of health insurance, through investigating the current status of Oriental herbal medicine insurance as perceived by the public. Methods : Questionnaire was developed through literature searches, in-depth interviews, item generation and item reduction. The questionnaires were further refined by a focus group. 221 surveys were retrieved from the general public. Results : The in-depth interviews, reveal that the public is aware of the various forms of Oriental herbal medicine formulas, except for the use of mixture of which are soluble granules covered by insurance. The public awareness of the soluble granules turned out to be so low that enhanced awareness of it is required. The public identified decoctions as the most preferred formula as well as the most effective formulas out of all Oriental herbal medical formulas. They also suggested that it should be the first to be included when the insurance policy expands in the future. The public had frequent experienced not choosing Oriental herbal prescription due to the high cost. Insurance coverage of Oriental herbal prescription is much needed. The public indicated that they will make frequent visits to the KMD if the insurance covers Oriental herbal prescriptions. Conclusions : The current status quo of Oriental herbal medicine insurance showed that the public identified decoctions as the most preferred, most effective and the top priority to be covered by insurance.

  • The industrial 4.0 era has been opened with the development of artificial intelligence technology, and the realization of smart farms incorporating ICT technology is receiving great attention in the livestock industry. Among them, the quality management technology of livestock products and livestock operations incorporating computer vision-based artificial intelligence technology represent key technologies. However, the insufficient number of livestock image data for artificial intelligence model training and the severely unbalanced ratio of labels for recognizing a specific defective state are major obstacles to the related research and technology development. To overcome these problems, in this study, combining oversampling and adversarial case generation techniques is proposed as a method necessary to effectively utilizing small data labels for successful defect detection. In addition, experiments comparing performance and time cost of the applicable techniques were conducted. Through experiments, we confirm the validity of the proposed methods and draw utilization strategies from the study results.

  • Avionics Full-DupleX Ethernet (AFDX) is a next-generation avionics network interface technology that is widely applied in the latest aircraft to replace ARINC429 and MIL-STD-1553B. However, the criteria for authenticating an avionics network consisting of AFDX are very scarce. Using AFDX Protocol Analyzer developed by the Korea Electronics Technology Research Institute and AFDX Tap developed by the Korea Aerospace University, we proposed a technology of certification practicality that can verify the normal functioning of avionics equipment with AFDX network interface. Our proposed technology provided the ability to collect precision packets, to verify AFDX specification compliance, and perform automatic tests to reduce the time and cost of authentication of AFDX avionics devices.

  • BITSE is a project of balloon-borne experiments for a next-generation solar coronagraph developed by a collaboration with KASI and NASA. The coronagraph is built to observe the linearly polarized brightness of solar corona with a polarization camera, a filter wheel, and an aperture door. For the observation, the coronagraph is supported by the power distribution unit (PDU), a pointing system WASP (Wallops Arc-Second Pointer), telemetry & telecommand system SIP (Support Instrument Package) which are developed at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Wallops Flight Facility, and Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility. The BITSE Command and Data Handling (C&DH) system used a cost-off-the-shelf electronics to process all data sent and received by the coronagraph, including the support system operation by RS232/422, USB3, Ethernet, and digital and analog signals. The flight software is developed using the core Flight System (cFS) which is a reusable software framework and set of reusable software applications which take advantage of a rich heritage of successful space mission of NASA. The flight software can process encoding and decoding data, control the subsystems, and provide observation autonomy. We developed a python-based testing framework to improve software reliability. The flight software development is one of the crucial contributions of KASI and an important milestone for the next project which is developing a solar coronagraph to be installed at International Space Station.

  • A wave of new technologies has created opportunities for the cost-effective generation of high-throughput profiles of biological systems, foreshadowing a "data-driven science" era. The large variety of data available from biological research is also a rich resource that can be used for innovative endeavors. However, we are facing considerable challenges in big data deposition, integration, and translation due to the complexity of biological data and its production at unprecedented exponential rates. To address these problems, in 2020, the Korean government officially announced a national strategy to collect and manage the biological data produced through national R&D fund allocations and provide the collected data to researchers. To this end, the Korea Bioinformation Center (KOBIC) developed a new biological data repository, the Korea BioData Station (K-BDS), for sharing data from individual researchers and research programs to create a data-driven biological study environment. The K-BDS is dedicated to providing free open access to a suite of featured data resources in support of worldwide activities in both academia and industry.

  • Research on hydrogen storage is active to properly deal with hydrogen, which is considered a next-generation energy medium. In particular, research on metal hydride with excellent safety and energy efficiency has attracted attention, and among them, magnesium-based hydrogen storage alloys have been studied for a long time due to their high storage density, low cost, and abundance. However, Mg-based alloys require high temperature conditions due to strong binding enthalpy, and have many difficulties due to slow hydrogenation kinetics and reduction in hydrogen storage capacity due to oxidation, and various strategies have been proposed for this. This research manufactured Mg2Ni to improve hydrogenation kinetics and synthesize about 5, 10, 20 wt% of CaF2 as a catalyst for controlling oxidation. Mg2NiHx-CaF2 produced by hydrogen induced mechanical alloying analyzed hydrogenation kinetics through an automatic PCT measurement system under conditions of 423 K, 523 K, and 623 K. In addition, material life cycle assessment was conducted through Gabi software and CML 2001 and Eco-Indicator 99' methodology, and the environmental impact characteristics of the manufacturing process of the composites were analyzed. In conclusion, it was found that the effects of resource depletion (ARD) and fossil fuels had a higher burden than other impact categories.

Recent Advances in the Prevention of RSV in Neonates and Young Infants

  • Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a pathogen with a high burden of disease and social cost among infants worldwide, but the development of a vaccine has been delayed. The recent understanding of the pathogenesis of RSV, progress in reverse genetics, and successful implementation of other maternal immunizations have prompted the recent rapid development of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and vaccines for RSV prevention. Phase 3 clinical trials for two next-generation mAbs (nirsevimab and clesrovimab) and two maternal RSV pre-F vaccines are currently underway or have been recently completed. Soon, we might be able to protect young infants through long-acting mAbs and/or maternal immunization. Additionally, the development of live-attenuated vaccine candidates that are capable of avoiding enhanced RSV disease is ongoing. We need to gain familiarity with these newly developed strategies and collect epidemiological data on domestic RSV to adequately prepare for a new era of RSV prevention.

  • Among the path planning methods used to generate the ship's path, the graph search-based method is widely used because it has the advantage of its completeness, optimality. In order to apply the graph-based search method to the berthing path plan, the deviation from the path must be minimized. Path following suitability should be considered essential, since path deviation during berthing can lead to collisions with berthing facilities. However, existing studies of graph search-based berthing path planning are dangerous for application to real-world navigation environments because they produce results with a course change just before berthing. Therefore, in this paper, we develop a cost function suitable for path following, and propose a 3D A* algorithm that applies it. In addition, in order to evaluate the suitability for the actual operating environment, the results of the path generation of the algorithm are compared with the trajectory of the data collected by manned operations.

  • Drone images are being used more and more actively in the fields of surveying and spatial information, and are rapidly replacing existing aerial and satellite images. The technology of quickly acquiring real-time data at low cost and processing it is now being applied to actual industries beyond research. However, there are also problems encountered as this progresses. When high-resolution spatial information is acquired using a general 2D flight plan for a terrain with sever undulations, problems arise due to the difference in resolution of the data. In particular, when a low-altitude high-resolution image is taken using a drone in a mountainous or steep terrain, there may be a problem in image matching due to a resolution difference caused by terrain undulations. This problem occurs because a drone acquires data while flying on a 2D plane at a fixed altitude, just like conventional aerial photography. In order to acquire high-quality 3D data using a drone, the scale difference for the shooting distance should be considered. In addition, in order to obtain facade images of large structures, it is necessary to take images in 3D space. In this study, in order to improve the disadvantages of the 2D flight method, a 3D flight plan was established for the study area, and it was confirmed that high-quality 3D spatial information could be obtained in this way.

  • Utilization of a driving simulator in the development of autonomous driving technology allows us to perform various tests effectively in criticial environments, thereby reducing the development cost and efforts. However, there exists a serious drawback that the driving simulator has a big difference from the real environment, so a problem occurs when the autonomous driving algorithm developed using the driving simulator is applied directly to the real vehicle system. This is defined as so-called Sim2Real problem and can be classified into scenarios, sensor modeling, and vehicle dynamics. This Paper presensts on a method to solve the Sim2Real problem in autonomous driving simulator focusing on IMU sensor. In order to reduce the difference between emulated virtual IMU sensor real IMU sensor, IMU sensor emulation techniques through precision error modeling of IMU sensor are introduced. The error model of IMU sensors takes into account bias, scale factor, misalignmnet, and random walk by IMU sensor grades.
