The Improvement of Junction Box Within Photovoltaic Power System

  • In the PV (Photovoltaic) power system, a junction box collects the DC voltage generated from the PV module and transfers it to the PCS (power conditioning system). The junction box prevents damage caused by the voltage difference between the serially connected PV modules and provides convenience while repairing or inspecting the PV array. In addition, the junction box uses the diode to protect modules from the inverse current when the PV power system and electric power system are connected for use. However, by using the reverse blocking diode, heat is generated within the junction box while generating electric power, which decreases the generating efficiency, and causes short circuit and electric leakage. In this research, based on the purpose of improving the performance of the PV module by decreasing the heat generation within the junction box, a junction box with a built-in bypass circuit was designed/manufactured so that a certain capacity of current generated from the PV module does not run through the reverse blocking diode. The manufactured junction box was used to compare the electric power and heating power generated when the circuit was in the bypass/non-bypass modes. It was confirmed that the electric power loss and heat generation indicated a decrease when the circuit was in the bypass mode.

Development of HILS System for Performance Evaluation of a Heavy Commercial Vehicle Hybrid Electric Power Steering System (대형 상용차량 하이브리드 전동식 조향 시스템 주행 성능평가를 위한 HILS 시스템 개발)

  • Most commercial vehicles have adopted the hydraulic power steering system. To reduce fuel consumption and to improve steering controllability, a hybrid electric power steering system is being developed for commercial vehicles. In this study, the HILS (Hardware In the Loop Simulation) system equipped with a commercial vehicle hybrid electric power steering system was developed and the vehicle dynamic performance of a truck with the steering system was evaluated. The hybrid electric power steering system is composed of the EHPS motor pump, column mounted EPS system, and ball nut steering gear box for heavy commercial vehicles. The accuracy of vehicle models equipped with the HILS system was verified with comparisons between the simulation results and field test results. The road reaction forces of the steering system were generated from the vehicle model and verified using field test results. Step steering tests using the verified HILS system were carried out and the performance of a newly developed commercial vehicle hybrid electric power steering system was evaluated.

  • In this paper, the concept of contactless inductive power transfer system used for the PRT system is suggested and some ideas for Power transformer design to improve the power transfer performance are presented. This system has a large air-gap and demands a large electrical power capability But, low output power is generated due to a loosely coupled characteristic of the large air-gap. Therefore, double layer construction of secondary winding, which was divided in half to increase both output current and output voltage was suggested. In addition, the performance of power transformer alignment condition between the primary power line and the power collector was verified by computer simulation of 2kW model.

  • In this paper, the inductive power collector using electromagnetic induction for the PRT{Personal Rapid Transit) system is suggested and some ideas for power collector design to improve the power transfer performance are presented. The proposed the inductive power collector is used for the PRT system, which has a large air-gap and demands a large electrical power capability. But, low output power is generated due to a loosely coupled characteristic of the large air-gap. Therefore, double layer construction of secondary winding, which was divided in half to increase both output current and output voltage was suggested. Also, model of power collector and parallel winding structure are presented, in addition, the performance of inductive power collector to alignment condition between the primary power line and the inductive power transformer was verified by computer simulation of 2kW model.

Seismic Performance Evaluation and a Comparative Study on the Design Wind and Earthquake Loads for Power Transmission Towers (송전철탑의 내진성능평가 및 설계 풍하중과 지진하중의 비교 연구)

  • In this study 24 power transmission towers were selected by considering various variables such as power transmission capacity, height and structural type to evaluate their seismic performance using the standard design response spectrum recently announced by the government. In addition, the stresses and sectional forces generated by the current design wind loads and revised seismic ones were compared to review the effects on the design of power transmission towers when the government-required seismic standards were raised. The results of seismic performance evaluation for the target power transmission towers showed that they had seismic capacity of 0.31~0.91g, and that they met the level of the earthquake-resistant special grade, which is the 2,400-year earthquake return periods and secured seismic safety. Further, the sectional forces caused by earthquakes in the towers were 33~82.5% of the ones due to wind loads, and it was also confirmed that the design wind loads were more dominant than design earthquake ones under the elevated seismic standards.

  • To inspect the power facility faults using artificial intelligence, it need that improve the accuracy of the diagnostic model are required. Data augmentation skill using generative adversarial network (GAN) is one of the best ways to improve deep learning performance. GAN model can create realistic-looking fake images using two competitive learning networks such as discriminator and generator. In this study, we intend to verify the effectiveness of virtual data generation technology by including the fake image of power facility generated through GAN in the deep learning training set. The GAN-based fake image was created for damage of LP insulator, and ResNet based normal and defect classification model was developed to verify the effect. Through this, we analyzed the model accuracy according to the ratio of normal and defective training data.

  • Photovoltaic(PV) technology is a popular part of building vocabulary. It can be used today on both existing and new buildings. Its use in the building envelope is very varied and open ways, such as roofing materials, facades, skylights and shading systems, for creative designers. So, to activate this systems demand appropriate sources of information, performance data of elements and design tools offering architects and designer. Therefore this paper describe application elements for BIPV system and then predict improvement in the generated electric power performance of balcony BIPV system.

Output Voltage Characteristics of HVDC Electric Field Mill Sensor for Different Speed Variables of Rotating Electrode

  • This paper explains the effects of the weak signal of a rotating-type electric field mill sensor fabricated for measuring the intensity of the electric field generated by high-voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission lines. The fabricated field mill consists of two isolated electrode vanes, a motor driver, and a ground part. The sensor plate is exposed to and shielded from the electric field by means of a rotary shutter consisting of a motor-driven mechanically complementary rotor/stator pair. When the uncharged sensor plate is exposed to an electric field, it becomes charged. The rotating electrode consists of several conductive vanes and is connected to the ground part, so that it is shielded. Determining the appropriate design variables such as the speed of the vane, its shape, and the distance between the two electrodes, is essential for ensuring optimal performance. By varying the speed, the weak signal characteristics which is used to signal processing and calibration experiment are quite different. Each weak signal pattern was analyzed along with the output voltage characteristics, in order to be able to determine the intensity of the electric field generated by HVDC power transmission lines with accuracy.

  • The results of performance assessment analyses have shown that the long-lived radionuclides such as I-129 control the potential individual dose impact to the public. I-129 is difficult-to-measure(DTM) in low-level waste because it is non-gamma emitting radionuclides and exists at extremely low concentrations in radioactive waste generated by nuclear reactors. In this study, computer modeling technique to predict release rate of I-129 is developed to provide another tools far performance assessment of land disposal facilities and characteristics of radwaste. Model suggested in this study will give conservative values of I-129 release rate far determination of radwaste characteristics. More detailed approach is implemented to account for release conditions of fuel source-nuclides. 1-131 concentration measured from reactor coolant and released fraction from tramp fuel have dominant roles in calculating release rate of I-129 with fuel defect conditions.

Design of Model-based VCU Software for Driving Performance Optimization of Electric Vehicle

  • This study designed a model-based Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) software for electric vehicles. Electric vehicles have transitioned from conventional powertrains (e.g., engines and transmissions) to electric powertrains. The primary role of the VCU is to determine the optimal torque for driving control. This decision is based on the driver's power request and current road conditions. The determined torque is then transmitted to the electric drive system, which includes motors and controllers. The VCU employs an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and calibrated reference torque to enhance the electric vehicle's performance. The designed VCU software further refines the final reference torque by comparing the control logic with the torque calculation functions and ANN-generated reference torque. Vehicle tests confirmed the effective optimization of vehicle performance using the model-based VCU software, which includes an ANN.
