  • Two-phase flow through a T-junction has been studied by numerous researchers so far. The dividing characteristics of the gas and liquid phases at the T-junction are very complicated due to a lot of related variables. The prediction models have been suggested by using experimental data for a specific condition or working fluid. But, they showed the application limitation for the most of the other conditions or fluids. Since most of them are applicable for their own experimental range, the generalized model for the wide range of conditions and fluids is needed. Even though it's not available now, some of the models developed for air-water flow at a T-junction might be applicable for the part of refrigerants with some modifications. Especially, for the two-phase flow of refrigerants at the T-junction, very few studies have been performed. Further experimental study is required to be performed for the wide range of test conditions and fluids to predict properly the two-phase flow distribution and phase separation through the T-junction.

  • Genetic polymorphisms associated with aggressive periodontitis have previously been reported. Interleukin-10 is an immunoregulatory cytokine that plays a role in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. Individual capacity for IL-10 production appears to be under genetic influence, The aim of present investigation was to explore possible genetic association of IL-10 gene promoter polymorphisms with generalized aggressive periodontitis. The study population consisted of 37 generalized aggressive periodontitis patients from the Department of Periodontology, Chonnam National University Hospital and 27 control subjects, all the subjects were non-smokers, Genomic DNA was obtained from buccal swab. The IL-10promoter -597, -824, -1082 positions were genotyped by amplifying the polymorphic regions using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) , followed by restriction enzyme digestion and gel electrophoresis. IL-10-597 C (allele 1) to A (allele 2) and IL-10-824 C (allele 1) to T (allele 2) and IL-10-1082 G (allele 1) to A (allele 2) polymorphisms were examined. The results were as follows. 1. In patients, the distribution of genotypes C/C, C/A and NA at Il-10-597 was determined to be 13.5%, 37.8% and 48.7%, respectively and the distribution of genotypes at IL-10-824 was the same as that of IL-10-597. The distribution of genotypes G/G, G/A and NA at IL-10-1082 was found to be 2.7%, 16.2% and 81. 4%, respectively. No statistical difference in genotype distribution was found between the patient and control groups. 2. Allele 2 carriage rate at the three position of the IL-10 promoter region was higher in the control group than the patient group. 3. Allele 2 frequencies at IL-10-597 and -824 positions were higher in female group than male group and its difference was statistically significant(p<0.05). No significant difference in genotype distribution between the control and patient groups. Allele frequency between control and patient groups was not significantly different although allele 2 frequency at the three positions in the IL-10 promoter region appeared to be higher in control group. In conclusion, no clear association between IL-10 gene promoter polymorphisms and generalized aggressive periodontitis in Korean was observed.

  • The present research deals with the time-harmonic deformation in transversely isotropic magneto thermoelastic solid with two temperature (2T), rotation due to inclined load and laser pulse. Generalized theory of thermoelasticity has been formulated for this mathematical model. The entire thermo-elastic medium is rotating with uniform angular velocity and subjected to thermally insulated and isothermal boundaries. The inclined load is supposed to be a linear combination of a normal load and a tangential load. The Fourier transform techniques have been used to find the solution to the problem. The displacement components, stress components, and conductive temperature distribution with the horizontal distance are computed in the transformed domain and further calculated in the physical domain using numerical inversion techniques. The effect of angle of inclination of normal and tangential load for Green Lindsay Model and time-harmonic source for Lord Shulman model is depicted graphically on the resulting quantities.

  • Purpose: Because the energy consumption, economic growth and logistics development are still the heated topics which have attracted many scholars' interests. Therefore, this paper attempts to analyze the effect of logistics development on the economic growth, explore the effect of the economic growth on energy consumption and to discuss the effect of the logistics development on energy intensity. Research design, data and methodology: Using the panel data over the period 2000-2017 of 156 countries and employing the country & year fixed effect model, system generalized method moments and random effect model, the empirical analyses of this propositions are performed. Results: The empirical findings present that the logistics development is positively related to the economic growth. The energy consumption in the t-1 period and economic growth are positively related to the current energy consumption. The logistics development is negatively related to the energy intensity. Meanwhile, the empirical findings also indicate that there is a great difference about these effects among the four sub-samples (low income 18 countries, low middle income 49 countries, upper middle income 44 countries, high income 49 countries). Conclusions: Based on the evidences in this paper provided, we can find that these variables can affect each other.

  • Tools for statistical analysis of extreme values include the classical annual maximum method, the modern threshold method and variants improving the second one. While the annual maximum method is to t th generalized extreme value distribution to the annual maxima of a time series, the threshold method is to the generalized Pareto distribution to the excesses over a high threshold from the series. In this paper we deal with the Poisson-GPD method, a variant of the threshold method with a further assumption that the total number of exceedances follows the Poisson distribution, and apply it to the daily percentage increases and decreases computed from the spot prices of West Texas Intermediate, which were collected from January 4th, 1988 until December 31st, 2009. According to this analysis, the distribution of daily percentage increases as well as decreases turns out to have a heavy tail, unlike the normal distribution, which coincides well with the general phenomenon appearing in the analysis of lots of nowaday nancial data.

  • In reliability analysis, it is quite common for the failure of any individual or item to be attributable to more than one cause. Moreover, observed data are often censored. Recently, progressive hybrid censoring schemes have become quite popular in life-testing problems and reliability analysis. However, a limitation of the progressive hybrid censoring scheme is that it cannot be applied when few failures occur before time T. Therefore, generalized progressive hybrid censoring schemes have been introduced. In this article, we derive the likelihood inference of the unknown parameters under the assumptions that the lifetime distributions of different causes are independent and exponentially distributed. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters in exact forms. Asymptotic confidence intervals are also proposed. Bayes estimates and credible intervals of the unknown parameters are obtained under the assumption of gamma priors on the unknown parameters. Different methods are compared using Monte Carlo simulations. One real data set is analyzed for illustrative purposes.

  • The primary objective of the paper is to review the development of approximations of the null distribution of a scan statistic and to show how these approximations were improved. Let $X_1, \cdots, X_N$ be a sequence of independent uniform random variables on an interval (0, t]. A can statistic is defined to be the maximum number of observations in a subinterval of length t $\leq$ T, when we continuously (or discretely) move the subinterval from 0 to T. A scan statistic is used to test whether certain events occur in a cluster aganist a null hypothesis of the uniformity. It is difficult to calculate the exact null distribution of a scan statistic. Several authors have suggested approximations of the null distribution of a scan statistic since Naus(1966). We conceive that a scan statistic can be used for detecting a "hot region" is defined to be a region at which the frequencies of mutations are relatively high. A "hot region" may be regarded as a generalized version of a hot spot. We leave it for a further study the concrete formulation of deteciton a "hot region" in a mutational spectrum.uot; in a mutational spectrum.

  • Modifications of t he weighted Mack-Wolfe tests are proposed for both cases when the peak of umbrella is known and unknown. The modified weighted Mack-Wolfe tests are exactly distribution-free when the continuous populations have the same shape. For the case of peak-known umbrella alternatives, the modified weighted Mack-Wolfe tests remain asymptotically distribution-free when the continuous populations are symmetric, but not necessarily with the same shape. For the case of peak-unknown umbrella alternatives, the maximum of standardized modified weighted Mack-Wolfe tests with peak-known umbrella alternatives was used. The simulation results show that the modified weighted Mack-Wolfe tests are more recommended than the modified Mack-Wolfe tests for various patterns.

  • We need to use the strength of each Species Distribution Model(SDM) because presence location data were only collected due to time and economic limitations in Korea. This study investigated and compared GAM(Generalized Additive Model) which is one of presence-absence models with Maxent(Maximum Entropy Model) which is one of presence only models according to location data(presence/absence data). The target species was Fisher(Martes pennanti) which is an endangered species in California, USA. We implemented environmental data such as topography, climate and vegetation, and applied models to sub-regions and study area. The results of this study were as follows. Firstly, GAM which used real presence and absence data was better than GAM which used pseudo-absence data and Maxent which used presence-only data. Secondly, Maxent was better than GAM when presence-only data were used. Lastly, each model which applied to different regions didn't predict other area well due to the difference of habitat environment and over-predicted outside of study area. We need to select an optimal model to predict a suitable habitat according to the type and distribution of location data.

  • Quantification of extreme rainfall is very important in establishing a flood protection plan, and a general measure of extreme rainfall is expressed as an T-year return level. In this study, a method was proposed for quantifying spatial distribution and uncertainty of daily rainfall depths with various return periods using a hierarchical Bayesian model combined with climate and geographical information, and was applied to the Seoul-Incheon-Gyeonggi region. The annual maximum daily rainfall depth of six automated synoptic observing system weather stations of the Korea Meteorological Administration in the study area was fitted to the generalized extreme value distribution. The applicability and reliability of the proposed method were investigated by comparing daily rainfall quantiles for various return levels derived from the at-site frequency analysis and the regional frequency analysis based on the index flood method. The uncertainty of the regional frequency analysis based on the index flood method was found to be the greatest at all stations and all return levels, and it was confirmed that the reliability of the regional frequency analysis based on the hierarchical Bayesian model was the highest. The proposed method can be used to generate the rainfall quantile maps for various return levels in the Seoul-Incheon-Gyeonggi region and other regions with similar spatial sizes.
