  • Understanding extreme precipitation events is very important for flood planning purposes. Especially, the r-year return level is a common measure of extreme events. In this paper, we present a spatial analysis of precipitation return level using hierarchical Bayesian modeling. For intensity, we model annual maximum daily precipitations and daily precipitation above a high threshold at 62 stations in Korea with generalized extreme value(GEV) and generalized Pareto distribution(GPD), respectively. The spatial dependence among return levels is incorporated to the model through a latent Gaussian process of the GEV and GPD model parameters. We apply the proposed model to precipitation data collected at 62 stations in Korea from 1973 to 2011.

  • A bond graph modeling approach which is equivalent to a finite element method is formulated in the case of the piezoelectric thickness vibrator. This formulation suggests a new definition of the generalized displacements for a continuous system as well as the piezoelectric thickness vibrator. The newly defined coordinates are illustrated to be easily interpreted physically and easily used in analysis of the system performance. Compared to the Mason equivalent circuit model, the bond graph model offers the primary advantage of physical realizability. Compared to circuit models based on standard discrete electrical elements, the main advantage of the bond graph model is a greater physical accuracy because of the use of multiport energic elements. While results are presented here for the thickness vibrator, the modeling method presented is general in scope and can be applied to arbitrary physical systems.

  • This paper presents exact autotransformer-fed AC electric railroad system modeling using constant current mode. The theory is based on the solution of algebraic. The proposed modeling is considered the line self-impedances and mutual-impedances. Besides, the load modeling improved results are obtained as application to the proposed constant current mode. In the analysis on AT-fed AC electric railroad system circuit, a generalized analysis method using the loop equation on a case by case. the simulation objectives are to calculate the catenary and rail voltages with respect to ground, as the train moves along a section of line between two adjacent ATs. The model contains assumptions regarding the representation of the autotransformer, the impedance of the track/catenary system, and the grounding arrangements, which all effect the accuracy of the result. The modeling results seem very reasonable. It is established that techniques for the AC electric railroad system modeling and analysis.

  • In this paper, two methods of fuzzy modeling are prsented to describe the input-output relationship effectively based on relation characteristics utilizing simplified reasoning and neuro-fuzzy reasoning. The methods of modeling by the simplified reasoning and the neuro-fuzzy reasoning are used when the input-output relation of a system is 'crisp' and 'fuzzy', respectively. The structure and the parameter identification in the modeling method by the simplified reasoning are carried out by means of FCM clustering and the proposed GA hybrid scheme, respectively. The structure and the parameter identification in the modeling method by the neuro-fuzzy reasoning are carried out by means of GA and BP algorithm, respectively. The feasibility of the proposed methods are evaluated through simulation.

  • This paper proposes an intelligent decision framework for update of the environment model using GSPN(generalized stochastic petri nets). The GSPN has several advantages over direct use of the Markov Process. The modeling, analysis, and performance evaluation are conducted on the mathematical basis. By adopting the probabilistic approach, our decision framework helps the robot to decide the time to update the map. The robot navigates autonomously for a long time in dynamic environments. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is useful for service robots which work semi-permanently and improves dependability of navigation in dynamic environments.

  • Using a generalized regression neural network, etch microtrenching was modeled. All neurons in the pattern layer were equipped with multi-factored spreads and their complex effects on the prediction performance were optimized by means of a genetic algorithm. For comparison, GRNN model was constructed in a conventional way. Comparison result revealed that GA-GRNN model was more accurate than GRNN model by about 30%. The microtrenching data were collected during the etching of silicon oxynitride film and the etch process was characterized by a statistical experimental design.

  • A lot of efforts have been made to analyze the performance of the vehicle equipped with automatic transmission through simulation. It might be necessary to understand the different types of transmissions, i.e., different power flows, for different models. If there is a module that can be applied to different types of automatic transmission, it could be helpful to transmission-related engineers. This study has started up from this idea. The common bond graph has been obtained from several types of the automatic transmission. The overall generalized equations and kinematic constraint equations have been derived using virtual power sources on common bond graph. They are used to derive state equations and constraints. These equations have been applied as an application to the vehicle equipped with two simple planetary gear set type of Ravigneaux gear type automatic transmission. The state equation, kinematic constraints, and dynamic constraints have been derived in every gear and shift operation using overall generalized equations and kinematic constraint equations. Simulations for constraint speed running, standing-start running, rolling-start running, and LA-4 mode have been conducted to analyze the performance of the vehicle powertrain using GVPS(Generalized Vehicle Powertrain Simulation) program wit pull down menus.

  • Recent developments in the field of separation of mixed signals into music/voice components have attracted the attention of many researchers. Recently, iterative kernel back-fitting, also known as kernel additive modeling, was proposed to achieve good results for music/voice separation. To obtain minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimates of short-time Fourier transforms of sources, generalized spatial Wiener filtering (GW) is typically used. In this paper, we propose an advanced music/voice separation method that utilizes a generalized weighted ${\beta}$-order MMSE estimation (WbE) based on iterative kernel back-fitting (KBF). In the proposed method, WbE is used for the step of mixed music signal separation, while KBF permits kernel spectrogram model fitting at each iteration. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves better separation performance than GW and existing Bayesian estimators.

  • A unified mathematical model of the equations of generalized magneto-thermoelasticty based on fractional derivative heat transfer for isotropic perfect conducting media is given. Some essential theorems on the linear coupled and generalized theories of thermoelasticity e.g., the Lord- Shulman (LS) theory, Green-Lindsay (GL) theory and the coupled theory (CTE) as well as dual-phase-lag (DPL) heat conduction law are established. Laplace transform techniques are used. The method of the matrix exponential which constitutes the basis of the state-space approach of modern theory is applied to the non-dimensional equations. The resulting formulation is applied to a variety of one-dimensional problems. The solutions to a thermal shock problem and to a problem of a layer media are obtained in the present of a transverse uniform magnetic field. According to the numerical results and its graphs, conclusion about the new model has been constructed. The effects of the fractional derivative parameter on thermoelastic fields for different theories are discussed.

  • In this paper, we study a generalization of the modified Weibull distribution. The generalization follows the recent work of Cordeiro et al. (2013) and is based on a class of exponentiated generalized distributions that can be interpreted as a double construction of Lehmann. We introduce a class of exponentiated generalized modified Weibull (EGMW) distribution and provide a list of some well-known distributions embedded within the proposed distribution. We derive some mathematical properties of this class that include ordinary moments, generating function and order statistics. We propose a maximum likelihood method to estimate model parameters and provide simulation results to assess the model performance. Real data is used to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed distribution for modeling reliability data.
