  • This study aimed at identifying the differences between gifted students and general students in parental attitude toward science and trust perceived by them and their science self-efficacy. To achieve this purpose, a quantitative research was carried out for elementary gifted and general students. The results were as follows. Firstly, Gifted students recognized more positively their parents' attitude toward science than general students, and both of groups perceived more positively their mothers' than fathers'. Secondly, Parents' trust by gifted students was perceived more positively than by general students, but showed no difference between fathers and mothers. Thirdly, The average of science self-efficacy for gifted students was statistically meaningfully higher than for general students.

  • Many patients with mental retardation need extensive dental treatment because they have much difficulty in maintaining their oral hygiene. However, because they are not cooperative and not manageable, they require physical restraints, drug induced sedation or general anesthesia. General anesthesia is useful in control of the patients who cannot be treated in other ways. Additionally, general anesthesia provides more safe environment for medically compromised patients. And medical treatment can be provided simultaneously under general anesthesia. Furthermore, almost all treatment can be provided without visiting several times. This case reports of periodontal, restorative and ophthalmological treatment of patient with mental retardation under general anesthesia.

  • Purpose: This paper is aimed to report the effects of oriental medicine on general pain after childbirth Methods: Two patients, 35 years old and 33 years old, who had a general pain after childbirth, were enrolled in this study. They received oriental medicine for several months. During the treatments, we gave them Gamikunguitang(加味芎歸湯) 2 times, each for 3 weeks. we check changes of symptoms. Results: After the oriental medicine treatments, symptoms of general pain after childbirth and other symptoms were decreased or disappeared. Conclusion: This clinical cases indicate that Gamikunguitang(加味芎歸湯) is effective in treatment of the general pain after childbirth progress and relapse of symptoms. More clinical data and studies are requested for the treatment of general pain after childbirth.

  • Purpose: This study investigated the relationship between allergic diseases, general anxiety disorder, and depressive symptoms among Korean adolescents. Methods: A secondary analysis was conducted on the findings of the 18th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey (2022). The study included 51,850 adolescents and analyzed the relationships among allergic diseases, general anxiety disorder, and depressive symptoms using complex samples logistic regression analysis. Results: Among the Korean adolescents, 12.7% experienced general anxiety disorder, while 28.7% experienced depressive symptoms. The prevalence of allergic diseases was 5.7% for asthma, 36.3% for allergic rhinitis, and 22.2% for atopic dermatitis. General anxiety disorder was associated with asthma and allergic rhinitis but not atopic dermatitis. Depressive symptoms were associated asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis. Conclusion: Examining the correlation among allergic diseases, general anxiety disorder, and depressive symptoms in adolescents underscores the need for implementing suitable strategies. Moreover, when addressing general anxiety disorder and depressive symptoms in adolescents, it becomes crucial to consider the presence of allergic diseases.

  • One of the most common procedures in dentistry is the inferior alveolar nerve block anesthesia but visual problem can occur during this procedure. Transient visual acuity decrease after inferior alveolar nerve block anesthesia can result from unintended intravascular injection. In this case report, we present ocular complication that has rarely been reported. The understanding of anatomy related to this case is discussed with suggestions for proper management of the patients. The dental management for ocular complications includes a correct diagnosis, management by understanding of patient's anatomic variations. This will prevent intravascular injection.

  • Most of the dental treatments have been routinely performed under the local anesthesia and the effectiveness has also been proved safe. However, even not frequently dentists face some complications associated with the local anesthesia. In this report, the experience of the paresthesia after mental nerve block anesthesia for an implant placement of the mandibular premolar was presented to raise awareness of the complications related with local anesthetic procedure and to discuss about the causes, the proper treatments and the preventive approach of the paresthesia.

  • MicroRNAs (miRNAs) act as critical regulators of genes involved in many biological processes. Aberrant alteration of miRNAs have been found in many cancers, including gastric cancer (GC), but the molecular mechanisms are not well understood. Herein, we investigated the role of miR-124 in GC. We found that its expression was significantly reduced in both GC tissue samples and cell lines. Forced expression of miR-124 suppressed GC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Furthermore, the Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK1) was identified as a direct target of miR-124 in GC cells. Finally, silencing of ROCK1 showed similar effects as miR-124 overexpression, while supplementation of ROCK1 remarkably restored the cell growth and invasion inhibited by miR-124. Together, our data demonstrate that miR-124 acts as a tumor suppressor by targeting ROCK1, and posit miR-124 as a novel strategy for GC treatment.

  • Overexpression of interleukin (IL)-35 has been found in a variety of malignancies, but the expression status in gastric cancer has yet to be elucidated clearly. In the present study, positive expression of EBI3 and p35 was 63.3% and 70.0% of cases, respectively. EBI3 expression was strongly related with larger tumor size and invasion depth (P<0.05). Similarly, expression of p35 was also correlated with larger tumor size (P<0.05). These results indicate that IL-35 might be involved in growth of gastric cancer. Interestingly, EBI3 and p35 expressions were positive correlated with Ki-67 expression. Moreover, EBI3 immunoreactivity was associated with Bcl-2 staining. Our data suggest IL-35 is correlated with genesis of gastric cancer by regulating growth and apoptosis.
