This paper deals with the experimental works for the correlations of ice resistance for icebreaker with synthetic(model) ice in general towing tank and with refrigerated ice in ice tank. In order to find out the correlation, the density variation is mainly focused in the present study. The model of Terry-Fox ice breaker has been used for the present correlation study because many data are available to be compared. According to the increase of density, the correlation becomes better quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Other parametric studies such as an ice size, a friction coefficient, a bending moment, etc., are also expected to be carried out to have better correlation in a near future. This research could be the basis for the possibility of resistance test using a synthetic ice in a general towing tank instead of an expensive ice tank.

The experiments were carried out to decide the selective fishing gear of the shrimp beam trawl fishery. The model nets were made of General type, Double-level type and Grid type. The model experiments were carried out to test opening efficiency and towing tension. The experimental tanks were the flume tank [$8.0L{\times}2.8W{\times}1.4H(m)$] and the towing tank [$85L{\times}10W{\times}3.5H(m)$] in National Fisheries Research and Development Institute. The full scale experiments were carried out to compare the selectivity of General type net, Double-level type net and Grid type net in the southern sea of korea. The vertical opening (net height) of the model nets can be expressed as a function of the towing velocity as the straight line. The towing tension of the model nets can be expressed as a function of the towing velocity as the parabola. The shrimp catching rates of upper cod end in Boryeong and tongyeong were 78%, 9% respectively, but the rates of lower cod end were 23%, 91% respectively. The number bycatch rates of General type and Grid type were 23%, 11% respectively, and the weight bycatch rates were 34%, 31% respectively. A selective shrimp beam trawl net is Grid type in korea coastal sea.

The wave-pattern analysis has been one of important research tools in the towing tank, and applied for hull form design. The longitudinal-cut method of Newman and Sharma is adopted in KRIS deep towing tank. Instrumentations and data acquisition systems are developed for that. Local effects and truncation effects are estimated by using calculated wave patterns of simple source distributions. Wigley model of 2m is used to check the accuracy of the whole system. Cut positions and truncation points are changed to investigate characteristics of the wave-pattern analysis. Coefficients of wave-pattern resistance are low-estimated in comparison with those of Maruo and Ikehata. The general quality of the system is very good, but some more efforts to increase the accuracy are required. Two full-form models(one basic form, the other with bulbous bow) are tested to show high application-possibilities of the wave-pattern analysis for the hull form design.

The present paper deals with the comparative study of resistance performance with refrigerated ice and synthetic ice according to the variation of hull form characteristics. The resistance test has been conducted in pack ice condition in each concentration condition. Stem angle has been chosen as main parameters for the variation of hull form characteristics. The correlation of performance between with the refrigerated ice and with the synthetic ice has been shown according to the variation for stem angles. The present study show the possibility of ice test in general towing tank with synthetic ice for the time-consuming research such as hull form optimization although that is confined in pack ice condition. The more parametric study for the properties of synthetic ice is expected to be conducted to have more close correspondence for the test results of refrigerated ice in near future.

The authors considered the effects of trim in the small coastal passenger boat upon resistance in this paper. Any change of trim no matter how small, necessarily produces some effect upon resistance. The relations between the resistance coefficients and trim were investigated through the towing test of the Model $MCI-P_1-65$, Korean Standardized Ship, GT 70 tons passenger boat in the gravitational tank. The Lines of the Model are given in Fig. 1. Principal dimensions and other characteristics vary with the trim in general. Those values varied with the trim for $MCI-P_1-65$ are tabulated in table 1. The resistance was measured at five conditions such as even keel, 0.0273L, (original designed trim) 0.0473L, 0.0663L, 0.0873L trim by the stern, fixing the displacement corresponding to the designed load water line. Model was made of wood in length of 3.5 feet coated with varnish, and without appendages. As the artificial turbulent stimulator, the sand strip method was used. The results of model towing tests, correcting to water temperature of $70^{\circ}F$, were expanded to full scale using the Schoenherr's friction formula and surface roughness allowance coefficient of 0.0004. The authors point out, the following results. 1) Optimum trim which gives the minimum resistance exists for every speed at constant displacement and each comes to the same value. For $MCI-P_1-65$ optimum trim is 0.0673L trim by the stern(Fig.4-The cross curves of the resistancecoefficients). 2) At constant displacement, when LCB(longitudinal position of center of buoyancy) varies with the trim, there exists optimum value of LCB which gives minimum resistance for every speed and each comes to the same value. For $MCI-P_1-65$ optimum position of LCB is 8%L aft from midship section (Fig.6).

A wide scope of numerical simulations was performed to predict model-ship resistances by using STAR-CCM+ and OpenFOAM. The numerical results were compared with experimental measurements in towing tank to analyze statistical reliability of the present simulations. Based on the normal distribution of resistance errors in 113 cases of container carriers, tankers and very large crude-oil carriers, the confidence intervals of numerical error were estimated as [-2.64%,+2.32%] and [-1.82%, +1.87%] with 95% confidence in STAR-CCM+ and OpenFOAM, respectively. The resistance errors of liquefied natural gas carriers with single- and twin-skeg were confident in the ranges of [-2.51%,+2.64%] and [-2.29%, +1.46%], respectively. The grid uncertainty of resistance coefficients for KCS was also quantitatively analyzed by using a grid verification procedure. The grid uncertainty of OpenFOAM (5.1%) was larger than 4.4% uncertainty of STAR-CCM+ although OpenFOAM provided statistically more confident results than those of STAR-CCM+. It means that a grid system verified under a specific condition does not automatically lead to statistical reliability in general cases.
The interaction between advancing ships and the waves generated by them plays important roles in wave resistances and ship motions. Wave breaking phenomena near the ship bow at different speeds are investigated both numerically and experimentally. Numerical simulations of free surface profiles near the fore bodies of ships are performed and visualized to grasp the general trend or the mechanism of wave breaking phenomena from moderate waves rather than concentrating on local chaotic irregularities as ship speeds increase. Navier-Stokes equations are differentiated based on the finite difference method. The Marker and Cell (MAC) Method and Marker-Density Method are employed, and they are compared for the description of free surface conditions associated with the governing equations. Extra effort has been directed toward the realization of extremely complex free surface conditions at wave breaking. For this purpose, the air-water interface is treated with marker density, which is used for two layer flows of fluids with different properties. Adaptation schemes and refinement of the numerical grid system are also used at local complex flows to improve the accuracy of the solutions. In addition to numerical simulations, various model tests are performed in a ship model towing tank. The results are compared with numerical calculations for verification and for realizing better, more efficient research performance. It is expected that the present research results regarding wave breaking and the geometry of the fore body of ship will facilitate better hull form design productivity at the preliminary ship design stage, especially in the case of small and fast ship design. Also, the obtained knowledge on the impact due to the interaction of breaking waves and an advancing hull surface is expected to be applicable to investigation of the ship bow slamming problem as a specific application.

The roll motion of a general vessel, which is more influenced by resonance as compared to other motions, adversely affects the passenger and hull. Therefore, reducing the roll motion through an anti-rolling system is critical, and most ships use various devices such as anti-rolling tanks, bilge keels, and fin stabilizers to accomplish this. In this study, a simplified model is developed for the application of an anti-rolling device for unmanned semi-submersible vessels. The applied anti-rolling device is installed on the stern and stem of a ship using a pair of servo motors with added weight, and the motor is controlled through the Arduino. The moment of the motor is designed and implemented based on a mathematical model such that it is calculated through the restoring force according to the heel angle of the ship. The performance of the proposed system was verified by utilizing the roll damping coefficient calculated by the free-roll decay test and logarithmic decrement method and was validated by a towing tank test. The system is expected to be used for unmanned vessels to perform sustainable missions.
There are the C.W.C and Towing Tank to the model-test equipments of the boat. A model testing of the high speed boat have a difficult in the performance verification because of very a small the scale-ratio of the ship-model and restricted by flow-velocity of the C.W.C and X-carriage velocity of the T.T. In general, the stepped hull boat is a high of fuel-efficiency because of the resistance reduction by a small wetted surface-area in correspond without stepped-hull boat. But It have a tendency to be bad the rolling performance by reduced stern wetted-area In this paper, the high speed stepped planning-boats with & without attached a stern body were performed to compare the effect of resistance and rolling performance by using sea model-test method.

From viewpoints of over-all ship economy the straight framed V-bottom hull forms with chines are considered to be attractive even for usual commercial vessels, because increments of resistance over that of round hull forms, if any, can be well compensated with reduction in construction cost.[1] To investigate the influences of both prismatic coefficient and chine elevation on resistance performance, three models of straight-framed V-bottom hull forms which are similar to Prof. C. Ridgely-Nevitt's W-18, W-8, and W-20[2],[3] in size and hull form coefficients were tested at the SNU Ship Model Towing Tank for resistance measurements. They are of Cp=0.60, 0.65 and 0.70 and of ${\Delta}/(0.01L)^3=300$. Influence of variation of chine elevation on resistance performance were observed with the test results obtained at normal condition, and at the trimed by the stern by 2% and 4% of $L_{bp}$ at normal condition under same displacement. The hull form characteristics are shown in Table 1, and in Fig. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The test results are shown in Fig 8, 9 and 10 in the form of Cr vs. $V/\sqrt{L}$ curves taking Cp as a parameter for normal condition, trim by the stern in 2% and 4% $L_{bp}$ at normal condition , respectively. Cr vs. $V/\sqrt{L}$ curves taking trim condition as a parameter are also shown in Fig 11, 12 and 13 for Cp=0.60 and 0.70, respectively. The best and the worst trim condition at given $V/\sqrt{L}$ in viewpoint of Cr are plotted for each Cp-value as shown in Fig 14, 15 and 16. From the above results the following conclusions are derived: (1) In general, the resistance performance of the straight-framed V-bottom hull forms are not inferior to those of round hull forms. At a certain range of $V/\sqrt{L}$ the former gives less resistance than the latter. (2) Regarding influences of Cp on Cr, it is observed that, at $V/\sqrt{L}$ less than about 0.925, the greater Cp-value gives the more increment of Cr, and that, at $V/\sqrt{L}$ greater than about 0.925 the smaller Cp-value gives the more increment of Cr. It is also noteworthy that the model of Cp=0.70 has remarkable hump on Cr vs. $V/\sqrt{L}$ curve between $V/\sqrt{L}=0.80$ and 0.90. (3) For higher speed within the test range, the chine elevation having the steeper slope around bow and the easier slope around amidship and stern, refered to watering, give the better results in resistance performance. (4) Assuming the chine elevations adopted for the tested models were not of the best, we would expect further improvement of resistance performance for such form. Hence, a systematic study on chine elevation is very disirable to prepare design data of general purpose for the such hull forms.
